  1. What your kids didg/are doing that you would suggest? I am looking for my boys something solid and complete, especially Lego robotic online class or program. Many thanks.
  2. I m boring mummy  I hate colouring and any kind of glitters too, but I'm a very creative person with a vivid imagination. My kids are the same and I don't blame them :001_smile:

  4. Then on the top of Mep you could supplement with all maths related. We do all kind: Murderous maths, Zaccaro's, Mental maths, Soroban, Chess, Robotics, Programming, etc.
  5. Both of my ds' are doing MEP. It's fun, completely free and it's more than enough if you kid is not a maths lover or accelerated too much.
  6. Italian is nice and a very easy language. After Italian your daughter can learn Spanish very quickly and French too. My husband speaks Italian, I am still learning it and both of our kids have decided to learn it very well. One is taking it together with French. He is interested in Maths, Science and music. The youngest one has decided to take it together with German. This kiddo wants to become a racing car designer-engineer so far and Italian is a must too. So it's not so useless language and if you really like it you can go ahead :)
  7. A big thank you to everyone! The choice has been made and ukulele was ordered
  8. Thank you very much! I will look into it 🙂 We've bought a couple of books, but they are not exactly for the kids. basically I have to read them myself first 🙂
  9. It's a tough decision. I am feeling that Ds will stay without any instrument this year at all :w00t:
  10. Ds is mad about these books, but he loves similar stuff :scared: Last year he had a craze for David Walliams. He read all his books in a couple of weeks :D
  11. I take all supplements for DS: Zaccaro, Borac, Moscow Puzzles, etc, and he is automatically slows down. Otherwise I agree with the testing, besides it's not to early for Pre-algebra. Mine is 9 and we want to begin sometimes after Christmas.
  12. Thanks for everyone for your helpful comments. In the end I think I had a mistake. It's not Teaching Textbooks I was thinking about, but Elements of Mathematics Foundation. What about this one? To be honest I have decided that DS takes AoPS. We looked at the book and he left very satisfied with it, but I would still love to hear any comments about that program. Who know maybe once I will decide taking it for my little one :)
  13. I wish to have the feedback for this one too. They have a discount today and I want to buy it for my not-maths-orientated kid, who needs to practice more and I wish to get something for an independent learning as we simply do not have more free time at all :(
  14. Ds9 bought these sets (histories, geography and science) with the b'day cash from his granny this summer and reading them like crazy. I've opened one and, oh my gosh, it's really horrible and so disgusting :D Beside those ones he is also re-reading Murderous Maths and is finishing Redwall. For next week he has Stig of the Dump and Treasure Island. Little one recently read The Invention of Hugo Cabret. He loved it so much that he asked me to buy all the books by Brian Selznick. They are on the way, so guess he will be busy for some time :001_smile: Meanwhile he is reading The One and Only Ivan and fifth time Chess for Kids by Richard James :001_smile: I am finishing Elon Musk and there are a few books waiting for me to be read: Rich Dad, Poor Dad, As a Man Thinketh, The Way to Wealth:Ben Franklin on Money and Success, Hillbilly Elegy and Mastering Bitcoin. Hubby is busy working, so reading mostly news and something about his soccer :sneaky2:
  15. It's very nice guitar. I saw it with my own eyes, but the price!!
  16. Thank you guys for your intake. All of you have the strong points, but now I am completely lost and not sure what in the end we have to go for :001_smile: I think I should ask ds to point at one instrument and buy it on the spot as I hate choosing things for someone else. Beside I like both instruments. Both of the instruments have their own personalities and sound beautiful.
  17. If we choose ukulele it will be soprano only
  18. I've got two completely different kids, while one is learning a lot through play and toys, another one loves to absorb all kind of info through enormous amount of books, educational channel, curriculum, fun classes. In the preschool days they had Montessory 5 mornings a week(3 hrs daily) from age of 2 to 5 and in the afternoons my playful guy had 2-3 times sport session a week and the rest of the time was filled with playtime. He had to spend 30min daily for independent reading and reading with parents before sleep. Maths and science we were mostly doing outside while waiting for his eldest brother to finish his after school activities. The sporty one had plenty of activities form a very young age , which were diluted with heavy independent reading (books, textbooks, he would read anything he had access to) and watching educational programs instead of cartoons. His curriculum was based on his personal preferences and made from a variety of different programs, exception was maths (we did sm, miquon, mep). The rest was chosen by the topic and tackled from all different points of view and programs, so it was very normal for 3-6 months to learn only about marine life, space or music history. He is 9 now and still we are afterschooling him in the same way, but this kid has school and 17 hours (3 different sports) weekly including summer :)
  19. ooohh :scared: For some reasons I had an impression that someone with an advance maths kid from our group was very happy with that program. Thank you!
  20. Please bear with me today, I have lots of questions in my head and suddenly a little time to prepare for the next year :) I remember I heard that this program is very deep and great for a development of the mathematical mind. Is someone of you using it? I am choosing between Pre-algebra AoPS and Teaching Textbooks.
  21. My little one wants to learn an electric guitar, but since he is only 7 his future teacher strongly suggests to start with an acoustic guitar or ukulele first. DS likes both of them the same and cannot decide which one to choose from. Maybe there are musicians here, who can tell me which instrument is the best to take right now considering that in 2 years or so DS is planning to switch to electric guitar, or it doesn't really matter?
  22. I will second the origami book. Also there is a wonderful book to learn history and science through crafts The Science and History Project Book: 300 Step-by-step Fun Science Experiments and History Craft Projects for Home Learning and School Studyhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Science-History-Project-Step-step/dp/1843227452/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1504737398&sr=1-1&keywords=projects+history+and+science
  23. Books of Brian Selznick. After reading The Invention of Hugo Cabret my little one asked to buy all his collection.
