  1. I am struggling this year with with my planning😳 These what I have so far... DS12 Royal Fireworks Geometry, Competitive maths/AOPS Intermediate Algebra with a personal tutor. Physics - he is taking Jetta's class this year and I cannot figure out where to go next. Should be something not intensive. Considering to continue with our maths tutor too. Programming - looking at Alphastar's program for now too. We have a very good online academy of sport programming, but I want to reduce the cost a little bit at the moment. Chess with a tutor + lots of tournaments Music school - Piano, Vocal had to go for now - no time French, Russian and German to continue + school and tennis everyday too🙈 He also organised a tennis club with a friend at his school last year and they are currently teaching their pears twice a week. DS10 BA5 online, competitive maths with me Science - funny projects with daddy Robotics - with his brother's or daddy's help Computing - Digital Savvy or/and Web Design at CompuScholar SOTW to finish Entrepreneur or engineering classes - he is still choosing Art school Russian & French Swimming and Boxing
  2. Thank you. I will check them out. I am still trying to put all the things together, mainly because I need to decide what to do for maths, physics and chemistry🙄
  3. Thank you. I have been waiting for this thread and especially for post of yours😃 Since I had started working, we have started falling dreadfully behind and as we were taking a very similar education approach to teaching our kids, I am heavily relying on your program at the moment 🙈😅 I also wanted to tell you thanks for a reply about AOPS physics. Unfortunately it was a bit crazy time for me and I forgot to thank you. My apology 😳 I will try to pull all things together this weekend, but before I have to sort a few things, maths and science. We tried to take online AOPS course last month, but since my kid cannot attend the lessons online due to a different time zone, he found this course not very useful and we decided to cancel it 😞 I need to figure out what shall we do now, as we do not want to change the program. I am not feeling comfortable to teach this level. Beside I have enrolled myself into another troublesome course, ACCA this time, and I am afraid I will have not enough time for myself for a few next years😞 Does anyone takes AOPS course in Welltrainedmind academy by any chance? How does it work? Is there any other online courses who follows AOPS curriculum?
  4. Hello Monique,

Happy holidays. Hope you all are having a good time :)

Monique, could I possible ask you regarding the intro to mechanics. As you know AOPS do not offer it online and we cannot take it as we are far far away in Europe :) so I would really appreciatively if you could share with me a name of the book they are using for this program. My kiddo is like yours, wishes to go into bio engineering and he would really love to start mechanics too :)

    Thanks 💐

      SeaConquest

Hello and happy holidays! This is the first year that AoPS is offering the course. They are trying it out locally in San Diego, where AoPS is headquartered, which is also what they did with BA Online before it rolled out worldwide. They don't have a book for the course. They are using something they put together on their own online (and it is embedded into the course), so it doesn't even have a name. This year is sort of the guinea pig year to figure everything out, so I imagine that they will roll the course out online and/or to the other academy locations in some form in the near future. Sacha does plan to take the f=ma course in the fall, which would be the next step up, if your son is interested in mechanics.

  5. I would also love to see a new planning thread for 2020. That's was always useful to plan ahead, especially this year, when my mind like a tangled forest😩
  6. I will miss this year. I simply do not know what to write. So many things we have started, so many things now to accomplish and too many thoughts to solve the problems in between😓 ...but thank you guys for keeping this board alive. From time to time I am reading everything here and get a few ideas where to move and what to use👍
  7. Uzinggo, as it was mentioned by dmmetler, is great!👍
  8. I am not very come here but always with you guys, so I would like to follow the flock 😉 Thanks
  9. Oh. That's exactly our case. The prealgebra book was spread to almost 1.5year long. With the teacher, it is moving much faster😥
  10. I agree with you. Ds did pre-algebra AOPS completely on his own. I was only checking his answers. Unfortunately now time is changing and he needs more time structured courses/lessons and preferably not with me. He is very talented in maths, but it is far from his favourite subject and he need a good motivator or a mentor, who can make it more fun for him to learn. I am not mathematician and I cannot give that way his tutor can do. Beside the intro to algebra aops book is still being done individually, but the tutor mostly fills the holes and still concentrating on the Olympiad maths. This way instead of 2 different courses we have one program with less fees. Everyone is happy, ds is enjoying and gets a huge motivation to continue :)
  11. Great! Then I guess they will be together :) According to Jetta DS has to finish Algebra 1 AOPS, so we are trying to cover it. By the way in the end we decided to switch completely to our online private tutor, the one with who DS was doing competitive maths for a few months during this scholastic year, but they will follow the AOPS program. For us its almost the same cost, but it will be more intensive and he teaches my kid to think, not just to solve. They will finish Algebra 1 by August and on the top Ds is also reading Jacobs Algebra and he has finished Life of Fred till Advance Algebra. I guess it will be more than enough :) Thank you for everyone's input and reminding me about pros of live sessions. Much appreciated👍 😉
  12. So you mean it is more wider than just a book program?
  13. DS asked me to enrol for Clover Creek Physics next year and by the rules he has to finish Algebra 1 before the beginning of the course. Plus we wanted to go for a short break between those two courses. oh, well. I feel a bit sad as I think this online class is brilliant and it could fit my kid perfectly, and i really hope that one day they offer better suitable time for Europeans 😥
  14. Thank you to both of you! I think we will do the same and continue working independently too. My apology, but I did not understand your question. What did you mean?
  15. Thank you guys. I see your points and I agree with you, but now I am completely lost if we should take these classes or not. The book is quiet easy and it explains everything very well. Is there any other reason why everyone enrols for classes yet? What are you planning for the next years, a course or independent learning? I am not sure what i have to do now. The course is about to start😓 Oh, no. We have missed the class and there are already 15 people in the waiting list !😞
  16. Due to living in Europe we cannot attend the live classes. Does it worth to follow offline? They say that lots of international students did that way. Is there anyone here who takes them this way? At the moment we are interested in Intro to Algebra & MathCounts/AMC 8 Basic. Many thanks
  17. My youngest ds is being scarred of maths. He cannot even learn timetable well! Everytime I ask him to revise it he starts talking to himself, singing, fulling around but he cannot concentrate at all. The same with simple maths. It is like he has blocked it and doesn't even want to give it a chance to understand! I am still trying to figure out what to do, so I will follow! It's so pity, because he is a very bright kid too, not less smarter than his brother. He has also started to read before 3yo on his own and he is very independent, I have never helped him with his school homework too. Beside my eldest ds is hyperactive and can concentrate and keep focus for long hours and can do thousand of the things, but the little one has a concentration problem instead 😞
  18. They also covered money including bitcoins and cryptocurrencies and in the end of the half year course they created Christmas handmade marshmallows and sold them all by them self in the coffee shop, calculated their profit minus cost and earned eu5 each :) The program is continuing, but ds has dropped it as he thinks he got to know what he wanted to know and the rest he will take from the books and his own project, which he is planning for the next summer together with his brother. The rest of the kids are working on fintech: learning how to create bitcoin and mining.
  19. Sorry, I wanted to answer later and it skipped my mind and I've just remembered after seeing the add of our course😅 so here it goes...
  20. If you won't find anyone I could give a tutor of my son. Although he is Russian, but can explain in English without a problem. He has Phd in Physics-Math from the best Russian University and usually teaches high school and university students level. He also lives in USA, so time won't be a problem too.
  21. thanks for posting. It always helps me to plan and not to miss anything important 🙂 I have updated from the last year in bold and later will do it again, maybe even not once😁 DS10 Ds11 maths - AoPS Intro to Algebra Intro to Counting and Probability and Intro to Number Theory. a variety of books for competitive maths, olympiad maths club- no more. Olympiad maths with a tutor. Competitive chess with tutor plus lots of tournaments - chess came suddenly out of nowhere and and its currently a main activity🤪 Olympiad programming with a tutor - my kid short of time and since it requires intensive work on his own, the most probable he will drops it for now. Hopefully only for now - to continue English - reading + an online course of the creative writing. To continue Science - Physical science, Life science and Earth and Space science. Not sure what to use yet. Maybe Holt Science and Technology. physics, biology and chemistry - I m not sure what exactly he is going to use yet, but he already knows too much. Clover Creek Physics. Biology and Chemistry - a collection of science books. Mindstorms with his brother - at school Public speaking and debate club - at school Foreign languages: Latin - Galore park - dropped. 22. Mine kuds watch only one guy so far and it is Mr. Bean. Maybe he is not exactly what you are looking for, but he is kind, although not everytime very gentle😊 and he gets really smart ideas to solve the problems and of course he is very funny. According to the psychos all smart ppl should watch it 🙂
  23. No camps here next summer. The kids are going to have normal sport and academical lessons. They are planning to do a few projects on their on and another one will be assigned by me. Plus a couple of trips abroad with a family and fun by the seaside daily.
  24. I got to know about Fortnite last week. My kids told me everythinng, but before I opened my mouth they added that they are not fans of it. What a relief!🤣
