  1. It made my tummy upset too, I wasn't sure if it was nerves or the shaking and rattling that happened. I am annoyed that my dogs who patrol the yard for squirrels and roadrunners, and bark at the neighbors every time they come home, completely ignore earthquakes!
  2. We felt the 4.3 right at 2 am. It seemed like it lasted for a long time! I am glad I slept.through the other ones. I am not a fan, earthquakes and potential severe weather are just too much in one week!
  3. Okay... I have Googled those wing bands, they are through their little wings? Is it better to just leave them? Yikes....poor little dears :( I know they are just chickens, but ack, I'm glad I didn't go yanking on them!
  4. We switched them out to pine already, and they perked right up, ate and scratched around. They were cheeping frantically after dinner so I put.them closer to the lamp and the went right to sleep. Two of them already look like little dinosaurs and the 3rd is tan and brown and still round and adorable. How do you get the little metal wing tags off without hurting them? The lady down the street has buff orphington chicks in her mom and pop hardware store, they come from her and her friends coops so I might add to the flock tomorrow.if they still look as healthy as the last time I looked.
  5. We are the new keepers of 3 tiny chicks!! Atwoods had a good deal on coops so we brought home babies, a coop, food and water dishes and a bag of chick starter they said was a good brand. Right now the chicks are in a 4 foot aquarium with a heat lamp and newspaper and food/water. We will build their coop this week, but they are way too little go in it for a while. So any words of wisdom for novice chicken keepers?
  6. A true narcissist would not be truly questioning their own inner life or trying to get to their own root causes. They may use something in order to draw attention to them self, but its without true introspection.
  7. Very Sensitive people just feel more, we take in everything and tend to measure it against our version of self. My mom was always telling me to stop being so sensitive, as if I could just wake up and stop having big feelings, which made me self doubt even more. When you combine that with not really easily understanding social nuance, body language, and underlying motivations, it is a tough road to navigate. Unless you are kicking puppies, spitting on babies, screaming nasty insults at random people, or other nasty things you can rest assured that you are NOT a bad person. Look in the mirror everyday and say something nice to yourself, you deserve it, if you can't say nice things to yourself for yourself, do it so that your kiddos can see that their mom loves herself and take that lesson with them through life. Every time I catch myself being mean to myself I try to follow it up with a compliment, even if it is something really dumb like "but at least you have great boobs" or "dogs really really like you". Every bit counts
  8. I score very high on these quizzes every single time. I think I am likely well onto the spectrum, I find that helpful to know as it can explain some current challenges, as well as help me understand why things were hard for me growing up. At the very least I would get yourself some books regarding women and Autism and see if it can be helpful in understanding yourself and forgiving not only yourself, but others for past hurts and mistakes.
  9. I had a meat Van here yesterday the dogs were out front and making a huge fuss, I didn't let.him get 10 steps before yelling out the door that we were Vegan. We are not! But I'm not buying meat out of a van!!!
  10. This time of year I would also suspect seasonal allergies! They are kicking my booty right now!!
  11. I have two GOOD knives, a serrated one that will cut through darn near anything, and a great Chef's knife with those dents in the side to make food slide off more easily. I have a couple smaller steak knives that are decent, but really you don't need a whole set. It is way better to have 2 or 3 really great knives than a whole set of cheapy ones.
  12. I adore Mantis Shrimp! I have considered learning to keep saltwater tanks, so that we can have one!
  13. I give my son his meds either just before, during, or right after breakfast which I plan on being an hour before school starts. It also depends on the type of medicine and how it is metabolized to some degree whether with food or without is better. I also know that Acidic foods such as juice, or soda can inhibit the Aderral group of medicines, I am not sure about the rest. DS takes vyvanse, I cram as much protein and healthy fats in him as possible for breakfast, otherwise he crashes mid day and is a wreck and just can't focus. An apple and spoonful of peanut butter in the early afternoon is easy enough for him to eat, and keeps him from falling apart later in the day. Yogurt is also good, or something like Carnation or Slimfast with almond milk if he is feeling wonky from the meds and needs calories/protein.
  14. We have a better net worth than we do a day to day cash flow. I am fine with that, the nest egg we are building makes me feel much better about our life as older people.
  15. If she previously had Eczema on her legs, I would be suspect of this area as well. Stress can certainly make itching worse, and histamine responses can be aggravated by it as well. It looks uncomfortable, I would probably make an appointment :(
  16. Have you spoken to the doctor about this? In that particular spot I would be thinking of things like tags, laundry soap, or some other contact allergy that flares up when she is stressed. Also Eczema, hives, and so many other things could be going on.
  17. That is what I would do too. The one time DS did this as a baby it was Croup, and his airway was swollen shut. We ended up in children's ICU for 3 days.
  18. Can you all tell me about your preferences for the common classic history books for the middle grades? DS loves to listen to the Famous Men series on Librivox, and then we read it together, We also have SOTW and The Story of Mankind which we both read and listen to. To be honest the Famous Men of Rome audio is so boring to me I want to stab myself in the ear, but DS loves it. I am trying to decide on a spine for the middle ages and can't decide which is the best choice!
  19. I agree, one dog at a time, especially puppies!! There are a few cases of BFF adult dogs that should really be kept together if at all possible, but that is the exception to the rule! I love our kitties, they are so easy and sweet and fun. But there is nothing like the bond between man and dog, sometimes I love mine so much it makes me tear up.
  20. I would totally eat it. You are going to cook it, and frankly I am much less worried about germs from my own cat than I am from the meat processing and handling before it got to my house. (Fixed typos! Dumb phone!!)
  21. I have been thinking about this a lot lately, because of DS issues I have to be with him for nearly all of his lessons, either sitting with him, or at the very least in the same room working on something like dishes so I can talk him through things when he gets stuck. I want him to learn to learn independently, but without making sure his basic skills, confidence, and maturity are up to it, he would just be spinning his wheels and needing to be talked down from the meltdown ledge all day. I hated it when teachers would read out loud, he on the other hand loves it and seems to learn well that way. So I do read aloud a lot, :toetap05: from fairly dense texts at time and I find it excruciating a lot of times. In math he requires direct instruction, lots and lots of tedious reminders, and sometimes he just gets stuck and cant remember simple addition and multiplication facts. So for math I teach a lot, I use scrap paper, a white board, money, beans, I am CONSTANTLY evaluating when to move forward, when to stay put, and what is his Dyscalculia and what is a lack of perserverance related to being 2E. Writing is much the same way, we are working on picking out the actual main idea words and phrases from below level informational texts. He reads the text and verbally summarizes it to me and usually has a good grasp on it. Then I sit next to him and work through sentence by sentence to find a few key words, he usually gets stumped so I tell him what the key words actually are. Then in order to get a short outline from him it looks something like this: Write The founding of Rome on the top of your page, underline it skip a line write the number 1 then next to it write 1000 -750 BC next line write a, then a period. What was the first sentence we found key words for? Don't guess, the ceiling doesn't have your answer, look at the book. No, it isn't cheating silly! Okay write those words next to the a. skip a line write b, then a period............... Other times teaching is just asking leading questions, or having him read something out loud to me because it magically makes instructions seem clear. We do discuss everything, and we answer all of his questions as fully as we can without giving too much information for his developmental stage, if I don't know the answer he goes through the process with me of looking up the answer in one form or another.
  22. I will be cooking hot dogs in a crockpot next weekend, there will be 6 nieces and nephews here plus 4 sibling in laws and 2 dear friends, one with their two kids. I can put 2 packages or more of hot dogs in the crockpot and keep them all day for all those hungry kids ranging in age from 2-12
  23. I will try to upload some....but first I want to say pretty please!! I love seeing real houses!!!!
