  1. From what I can see as I glanced through it, there is no mention of anything religious.
  2. Kathy Jo has done it again! Her geography curriculum is free right now through Homeschool Giveaways. It looks great! http://homeschoolgiveaways.com/2014/05/free-complete-geography-curriculum-30-value-ends-5-16-14/
  3. Honesty, after trying so many different Bible curricula, we bought the older kids (8 & 10) their own study Bibles for Easter and we are reading through different books of the Bible chapter by chapter together. I have seen them get more out of doing this than anything else we have tried. My plan is to read through several epistles, Psalms, Proverbs, and the gospels. That should take us a while if we continue to just do one chapter per day.
  4. I am loving this already! The notebooking app is great! I created a Book of Centuries for my son, a spelling notebook for my younger son, and covers for the kids' assignment books. Well worth the purchase, in my opinion. ;-)
  5. Thank you, that does help! I think there were some science sections that had some pictures that looked like they were printed off in color, but maybe it was just people coloring them. Now it's time to sell some books to pay for a membership. :-)
  6. If I don't have a color printer, would it be worth it to purchase this? Looking through the samples I see an awful lot of pages with color, which is great...unless you only have a black and white printer.
  7. We don't have experience with BFSU but we do currently have a Supercharged Science membership (the TOS crew is currently reviewing it). Yes, you do watch experiments first, but this is meant to spark their curiosity. Then you do the experiment on your own. I love this because I have always felt like I couldn't do experiments well and always messed them up somehow. But now I just do them exactly as the video shows. For us, I let the kids explore different topics and videos, and then come to me when they have an experiment they want to try. Some we can't do because we don't have supplies, but most we have been able to put together. There is also additional material for extra reading and evaluations (to make sure they fully understand the material) that you can us once you have your child's interest sparked. If you click on my blog link below you will find a link at the bottom of the Supercharged Science review where you can try the website for a month for only $1. That should give you enough time to know whether it will work for you or not. :-)
  8. The Day by Day Kid's Bible might work. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Day-Kids-Bible-Readers-Tyndale/dp/0842355367/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396297570&sr=8-1&keywords=Day+by+day+bible
  9. I just had the chance to review a really cute math book that is meant for grades K-3 (although I think it would make a great preschool-type math introduction too) and I thought I would share it with you all. It is called the Gnomes' Gemstones and here is my review...http://wateronthefloor.wordpress.com/2014/03/26/hands-on-math-fun-with-the-gnomes-gemstones-a-review/.
  10. You may want to look into some curricula like History Odyssey, Biblioplan, or maybe Winter Promise. I am not too familiar with Elemental Science but I think these choices *may* be what you are looking for.
  11. My oldest are 2 years apart. We do Bible, science, and history together with KONOS. We also do our memory work together. Anything else I have tried to do together has been a miserable failure.
  12. I have really only found it beneficial to combine *my* kids in subjects like science and history. Two years is just too large of a gap for us when it comes to things like language. GSWL was a perfect fit for my older child, but it was just too much for my younger child since she wasn't as advanced in her grammar knowledge. You could probably try to combine them in something easier, but then you would run the risk of it being too easy and boring for your older child. I have always taught more to my oldest and let the others follow where they can, so I have never tried it that way.
  13. Personally, I would teach them separately. I tried combining mine that are 2 years apart and it just didn't work out well. This year my 2nd grader is doing SSL and my 4th grader is doing GSWL. I am not positively set on next year, but I think my then 3rd grader will either do SSL2, I Speak Latin, or I may just start GSWL at a slow pace. With my then 5th grader I think I will use Latin Book 1 (the free Latin book available in a yahoo group).
  14. We had a good week, but could definitely use some warm weather and sunshine! Instead it looks like we will get another snow storm next week. Here are some highlights from our week: http://wateronthefloor.wordpress.com/2014/02/28/here-come-the-peg-people-week-in-review-22814/
  15. Here is our week! http://wateronthefloor.wordpress.com/2014/02/22/time-to-organize-and-unplug-week-in-review-22114/
  16. Here is mine! http://wateronthefloor.wordpress.com/2014/02/15/more-planning-and-lots-of-cuddles-week-in-review-21414/ Happy weekend, everyone!
  17. I finally have one!! Hoping to do this more. :-) Love, Puppets, and Attitudes: http://wateronthefloor.wordpress.com/2014/02/07/love-puppets-and-attitudes-week-in-review-2714/
  18. IEW has been wonderful for my 4th grader. We are using All Things Fun & Fascinating (and just for the record, I have never watched the TWSS and we are doing just fine :-)). The thing I love most about it is that I work with him while he writes to teach him how to write. I think that has made the biggest difference in his writing.
  19. My 2nd grader is using PLL and Language Lessons through Literature (not sure that we need to have both but we just started LLtL about a month ago...she hasn't complained about having to do both yet). For spelling we are using The Modern Speller (vintage google book for dictation). All in all she may be writing about 6 sentences a day, though most of it is copy work. No essay writing here! :-)
  20. I got it! It looks similar to PLL, which is what we are using. My daughter took a look at it and wants to give it a try!
  21. I haven't used it before but I found this website http://www.bestvaluecopy.com/?gclid=COKzh4P9o7wCFY1FMgodsXUAOw. There is a code on the side to get the first 50 color prints free. I'm not sure how it works with PDFs if that is what you are printing. I think it includes 1 and you have to pay $3 each for the others, but I'm not positive on that.
  22. After several years of debating and worrying that the planning would be too much, we have finally started KONOS! After about 6 weeks, it continues to be going very well. So if any of you have been holding back because of having to put lessons together, I wrote a post that may help you out. http://wateronthefloor.wordpress.com/2014/01/28/planning-our-konos-units-with-a-free-printable/ If any of you have used KONOS before, is this similar to how you planned it? I was pleasantly suprised at how easy it was!
  23. I found volume 1 on homeschool classified and volume 2 on Amazon. Ebay usually has a few for sale and not too long ago someone had the first volume for sale here under the classified section.
  24. One you get the KONOS manual it will make a lot more sense. I was confused by how it worked until I saw it right in front of me. The other thing that helped me was reading through KONOS compass. I actually received that before I received the manuals, which turned out to be a good thing. We will be starting with attentiveness a week from Monday and my plan is to blog about our schooling. It looks like it will be a lot of fun:)
  25. We are completely changing our curriculum to focus on character and will starting using KONOS in January. I hope it works:) Also there is a great free resource online that is biblically based...www.characterjournal.com.
