  1. You could add in Duolingo for extra practice.
  2. This is what I have done. It worked really well with my kids.
  3. Last week I was contacted by two different people that I have not seen or spoken with in years. (5 years for one and probably 10 years for the second person) They sent FB messages. One asked me to take a survey about oils (DoTerra) and the other asked me about books for my kids (Usborne). Ugh! I get so tired of the selling and asking. So this video made me smile today. I always feel like a jerk turning down all the products and parties but I can’t afford them and I don’t need them.
  4. I am switching to MP this school year (from CAP). CAP was very busy (the activity guide especially) and with the new editions I would have to repurchase everything for my next child. Frustrating. I showed my daughter MP and we both liked the clean layout and straightforward approach. I’m hoping it helps us stay more consistent with Latin this year. It also seems to have better review and seems to build on itself in a logical way. We’ll see.... Knowing that CAP was doing a second edition was what really helped me decide to switch. I have many little ones and I would have to rebuy each level of CAP. And I felt my daughter did not retain as much from this past school year as I would have liked.
  5. Unfortunately we have severe dairy allergies. We’ve done some coconut yogurt though. No one has sores in their mouth which is a huge blessing. Just on hands and feet although my kids have very few blisters. Their biggest issue is the terrible headache and fever. It’s my hubby who has the severe blisters on hands and feet. And while his throat is red the dr confirmed that he has no blisters there. He’s been eating ice and drinking cold water. But it’s really crazy how tired and lethargic everyone is. The diaper rash is mostly clear. So far it’s not impetigo but I’m keeping an eye on it. One of my other children has developed impetigo as well so we’re having all kinds of fun. She has started medicine for that. My hubby is now able to open his hands all the way. They are incredibly swollen and painful still. I’m hoping that soon he’ll be able to use them a little bit soon and be able to walk without pain. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him this sick or in this much pain. He hasn’t been able to do anything since Sunday. Tylenol and Motrin aren’t helping at all.
  6. Check with local co-ops as well. Many in my area host sales. Also our local 4H group has a big sale thing and there is a ton of curriculum sold there - and books too.
  7. Thanks. If you think of the name of the spray please let me know. And I bet he would be willing to try lotion and gloves. We’re pretty desperate at this point.
  8. Does your area have a local FB group for curriculum swap and resale? My area has a group and I’ve had great successs there.
  9. My parents came to town to help. I think they are going to quarantine the kids at a hotel with them. The timing could not be worse.
  10. Thanks. I’m not sure Aveeno is gluten free. We have an allergy - you know- just to make things easier. Maybe I could make my own oatmeal bath with our GF oats. That’s a good idea. At least my kids are drinking tons of water. And I’ve been making them smoothies to soothe their throats. That has been helping.
  11. Ugh! This is awful! We’ve been stuck at home for forever. I do nothing but clean and try to help them get comfy enough to nap. I’m due any day with a new baby. I don’t know what to do. I’m starting to panic because we can’t get well.
  12. My hubby found some jeans that have quite a bit of stretch in the fabric. I think the brand was Big Star from the Buckle. At his new job he can wear nicer jeans and it was very difficult to find relaxed fit, boot cut jeans with stretch (that didn’t have holes or any type of acid wash). These were not cheap but have lasted a long time. Many jeans are tight or have a slim fit that has no stretch and they are uncomfortable. Definitely look for fabric that has stretch to it. My hubby found this type of jean to be the most comfortable. These jeans I have to sometimes throw in the dryer on hot because they have a lot of stretch to them and they get a little stretched out. But they have been my hubby’s favorite.
  13. So my toddler got super sick last week. Vomiting, Fever, and weird blisters in her diaper area. She was so lethargic. I assumed it was some kind of virus. All of my other kids and my hubby got sick. Based on all their symptoms I realized they had hand, foot, and mouth. It has been misery. My hubby has the most severe case. His hands are so swollen and blistered they don’t even look like hands. He can barely walk because of the pain in his feet. Then he developed a weird and different rash on his face. I took him to the dr who confirmed hand, foot, and mouth and then diagnosed impetigo in his face. He’s on antibiotic for that infection. The dr said there wasn’t much he could do about his hands and feet though since it’s viral. Does anyone have any suggestions for things I can try? My hubby has been sick since Monday. I have scrubbed and washed everything with bleach. I am putting calamine lotion on hands and feet which does seem to help soothe them a little. I have no idea what to do about the crusty impetigo rash. We have never had either of these infections before and I don’t know how to help him or my kids. Another child has just developed impetigo so I’m getting her meds as well. Someone has been sick for over a week and a half. I’m so over this. What can I clean? What can I try? What will help with the pain of the blisters or the itchiness of the rash? When will we be well? I’m completely losing my mind. We’re washing hands and I’m changing out toothbrushes. I’ve washed towels and sheets and blankets. Bathrooms and kitchens have been cleaned with bleach.
  14. Curly hair can be fun but it takes some work to find a product that works well. I’ve had the best luck with foam styling products. And conditioner is really important for my hair as is being very gentle and not using towels.
  15. Maybe a styling foam meant for curly hair? I use Deva Curl and it’s a foam that I work through my hair while soaking wet. Then I lightly blow dry my curls. It has helped with the frizz and it doesn’t make my hair crunchy. Does he use conditioner? If not, then I suggest a leave in conditioner followed by some type of styling foam to help hold the curls and reduce frizz. Curly hair can be very dry. Also, be gentle when toweling it as that breaks up the curl pattern and makes hair more frizzy. I don’t use towels on my hair but gently use my fingers to work through my hair while wet and blow dry on a low setting.
  16. I asked them this question and they said the topics would not completely line up. And if you use the old DVDs it won’t line up with the activity books and workbooks in the new edition. I was frustrated as I had just purchased this program the other year and was going to use it again with my next child with just purchasing a second workbook. But that apparently won’t work as things will not align and I’ll need new answer keys because they will no longer sell the first edition. And the DVDs I have will not quite work. I have not compared the table of contents for both editions because I was too frustrated and gave up trying to make it work. So I’m switching to Memoria rather than buy the next level of L4C for my oldest only to have it come out with the new edition next year. Now if you’re only talking about the activity book and not the student workbook, my daughter found she did not enjoy the activity book and would rather just do the workbook. So I’m not sure the activity book is essential. In the old edition it is fairly cluttered and we did not enjoy it much.
  17. I think Steinbeck’s works are depressing and hard to slog through. I personally hated My Antonia. It is sad and strange and I will never read that one again. I agree with the above poster about removing Mont Dick. I’ve never tackled it because it’s so long.
  18. I think Fred is a she. ? It’s a pretty plant though!
  19. I have no real suggestions but I’m in the same boat. I’ll have a baby and a 2 year old as well as K, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 7th. Thankfully the two older ones can do quite a bit on their own. And the 4th grader will be able to do some on her own. I have the kids rotate keeping the toddler entertained. And I went with several subjects from BJU online so they can do some things without me. I am really nervous about next year!
  20. Sure. The first few lessons were great review but it ramped up quickly. There are so many things in there that I don’t even remember from school. And the diagramming is difficult! Wow. I feel like it moves quickly and covers so many topics. It makes me feel dumb. Lol! I used to think I was ok with grammar. Apparently I don’t know much! I’d like to find something a little more incremental. Or something... I haven’t found quite what I’m looking for.
  21. I am using Grammar for the WTM with my 6th grader this year. We are finding it to be very challenging. My daughter does well with grammar but she’s finding the program challenging and tedious. We haven’t finished the book this year and will have to continue to slowly work on it I know it won’t work for my son who will be 5th grade next year. I’m going to try Giggly Grammar with him since LA is not his strength and I don’t want him to be frustrated. We found the new Grammar for the WTM to be a big jump in difficulty from FLL. So I know my son would struggle too much I know many people use Analytical Grammar or Hake Grammar. I was wishing Master Books had the higher levels of their new language lessons program out. Basically I’m struggling with grammar options as well.
  22. I can’t figure out most of these. I must live under a rock. I feel so dumb...
  23. Yes. I always appreciate the collective hive wisdom. ?
  24. Me. My kids are content to watch Sofia or Pokémon. No thanks! I didn’t see the new season of When Calls the Heart. I’ll have to catch up on that. My hubby works with the son of the author of that series. So I sometimes talk my hubby into watching with me since he knows the family. He’s not a huge fan though! Lol.
