  1. I'm pretty involved with fiber crafts, so my six year old son is learning how to spin and is weaving a scarf on a rigid heddle loom. Since he doesn't know any other kids who do either, he thinks they are 'manly' pursuits.
  2. I have the same complaint. OPGTR works very well for us, but the font complicates things.
  3. I tried out Spelling Workout and it wasn't a good fit for us. The rules were not really emphasized and my son would learn the words for the week and then promptly forget them. There was enough "work" for three days, but it was pretty much busy work.
  4. Learning Latin in HS made Italian much easier in college.
  5. My six year old is on track to finish OPGR by the end of June. We started in Kindergarten, so it has taken us two years to work our way through. We don't do any review during daily lessons, but we did take a break last summer and worked through the first three ETC books. It really boosted his confidence to work through them quickly. When we restarted OPGR in the fall of first grade, the lessons were much easier and he made many leaps. If I tried to do "2 Review and 1 New," I think I think there would be a rebellion.
  6. We did 4 pages in Singapore, but all the rest the same. Some days it took half an hour and other days it took longer. OPG had some lessons that were very challenging and seemed long when we were blending CVC words. Thankfully, things sped up.
  7. We do Singapore 4 days a week and LOF on Fridays. Last summer, we did LOF daily and really enjoyed ourselves. I'm planning on doing the same this year.
  8. We just did. I want to take advantage of my husband being home to help with the little ones. My oldest didn't seem upset, we cranked through most of first grade before breakfast.
  9. I have been lurking for a bit and really enjoying reading about everyone's experiences. My son is two and I plan on homeschooling him in a couple of years. If you could go back and have a couple of years to prepare before homeschooling, what would you do? Start hunting down used books? Further your own knowledge base? Start lesson planning? Get off the boards and relax for a couple of years? TIA! :bigear:
