  1. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: BarbecueMom, :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: for you and your extended family. I'm sorry for both your losses.
  2. Not for a king. They have every other size, though!! I looked at that. The kits are around $300 just for hardware (that's on my line of "do I really want to spend that?"). But they do make it so the bed is way easier to lift and lower. I've suggested a queen mattress for just that reason; I don't know if that will fly, though. Probably for the hinges it won't matter, but for the bar at the foot of the bed, I'm not so sure. I have not thought of ropes and pulleys, actually! I'll look into that; I have to study on other people's DIY jobs to get ideas. I mean, I'm able to build a frame and get a new mattress (as opposed to just not having any bed), so I'm not complaining too hard...my brain's just feeling mushy.
  3. ...for a king size mattress....For daily use....That I can lift up and down by myself....After I already designed a regular slatted frame and bought and cut lumber (2x6's, so I'm not re-purposing wood).... :svengo: I realize I could just buy one, but I can't make myself spend the $$$. The $$$ needs to go to a good new mattress. Just had to whine a bit, thanks for listening. :D
  4. If I let them, my kids would stay at the library all day. I usually limit a browsing trip to an hour, and if there are specific books I want, I put them on hold so pick up takes 5 minutes. The grocery in-and-out time is 30-60 minutes depending on how much I need, how collected my brain is, and how the kids are behaving. I day I think we hit our storage unit and two grocery stores and home again in 90 minutes. But all of that is within a 10 mile radius (suburbs). 30-40 minutes of that was driving time, and I didn't need much at either store. But we haven't gotten much of anything else done today, so there's the trade off. :D
  5. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Thank you.
  6. I think DH would unfriend them even if they were family...
  7. I've noticed the general hot cakes price is 10% - 25% of the original purchase price. /shrug. I'd rather just give stuff away. Aren't there sale and swap boards here?
  8. So my middle was scandalized that I decided to mow today, in between viewing sessions. He was seriously convinced that the eclipse would blind me. Nothing he got from me. I blame their grandparents...
  9. Sandal; I can handle down to about 40. Otherwise, ankle-height Sloggers with a super tacky design on them. :D Edited for grammar; I do have two feet. ;)
  10. For comparison, our potato wedges (medium to large red potatoes cut into sixths) take about 45 minutes in a 400 degree oven. And depending on how many there are, sometimes longer (if I do a whole 5 lb. bag, for example).
  11. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Sore spot for me, too.
  12. I might for that one; we'll see. My kids will be teenagers and it would be a good excuse for some sort of trip.
  13. Hmm...bluebirds, blue jays, cardinals, mockingbirds, mourning doves, hawks, swallows (sometimes), sparrows, red-winged blackbirds, robins, hummingbirds, crows. I've heard woodpeckers but never seen them. And one brown bird never got around to identifying. I'll add more if I think of it. The mockingbirds and cardinals are the most populous here, and they're year-round residents as far as I know. Sparrows would be next for most populous.
  14. We got my youngest a new hamster. Praying this will go better. I did not properly educate myself with the first one and we did literally everything wrong. :(

  15. My DH doesn't do this, so there are some out there! If it's something he really wanted or even needed that I didn't get, he just makes a sad faces and wanders off. :D Or he'll say, "if you're going to the store, can you grab thus and such." Things like that. He has never ever said anything about how long it takes. And he will watch the kids if I ask, but I don't unless I really need him to. Today I needed to divide and conquer by running errands while the two older DC cleaned, so DH stayed home with the two and I took youngest with me.
  16. Nope. The stations are sold in packages. The best they could do is a la carte the station "families," but the cable company isn't going to do that. I had this conversation once when a cable telemarketer wanted to know what it would take to get me to buy TV service. :D
  17. I haven't bought from them for DD, but I like the two skirts I've gotten from them. https://theskirtoutlet.com/collections/girls-modest-apparel
  18. I ended up doing the opposite. I grew up seeing make up, hair, planned outfits, coordinating jewelry. Nothing flashy or gaudy, but definitely all carefully done. From little, I never liked dresses and bows and preferred jeans and t-shirts. I do like wearing skirts now, but I'm still a denim girl. Twill is dressy to me. :D No make up, jewelry, or hairstyles. I did like jewelry in my teens, but in a crazy-funky-goth sort of way (I'd layer several necklaces from collar down to sternum-level pendants, for example). Now I literally just wear my wedding ring and a ponytail holder on my wrist. What I am very particular about are the cuts and patterns of my clothing, so there is that.

  20. If I didn't already think I was nuts, reading some of my writing circa '92 - '01 would surely have convinced me! :D

  22. We have a "special box" for little handmade crafts, seashells, little knick knacks from friends. These are 12" collapsible cubes. All the art goes in big 3" binders that then go on a shelf in their closet. When I was feeling really organized, I subdivided those by category (drawings, paintings, church stuff, etc.) and put art in chronologically (as much as possible). Building-set items they put together are displayed on top of the toy shelves. I'm all for building shelves, shelves, and more shelves, if your DH is willing. You can never have too many shelves. :D I'm hoping to start on a few of those projects myself, before the end of the year.
  23. I'm in the bored camp, but not because of too much free time or extroversion. I just need to go do fun stuff and socialize more often. :)
