  1. It's a public blog, so I don't mind. Thanks for asking though. I just wanted to let everyone know that my daughter has started to use our stapler instead of tape now. She thinks that works better, especially for construction paper.
  2. It looks great. My daughter thinks it is awesome!
  3. I'd soak her hair and scalp in olive oil. That is what worked for me, but I am not sure how long I left it on for. I believe I left in on for a couple of hours while they wore a shower cap.
  4. My daughter actually finished her last one with packing tape!:001_smile:
  5. I majored in film at UCSB. They also had a program for going to France. Unfortunately, I was like your son, not good at languages at all. I still enjoy French films though, and I am glad they are subtitled!
  6. You're welcome! Our house is full of snowflakes, it seems so festive. Enjoy!
  7. It will look slightly off, but still like a snowflake. You can also trim the triangles if you didn't fold it perfectly.
  8. Yes you have to use a good deal of tape for this project. :D
  9. Luckily my daughter is still awake because she is the one who did this. :) Here is what she has to say: Step 3 - You fold it for the second time. Step 4 - You will notice that the triangle has two sides that are the same, and one that is different (it's longer). Keep the "legs" of the triangle at the bottom and keep the longer part to the right. Then cut three parallel lines to the longer side. Step 6 - Yes, six sheets of paper are needed for each snowflake.
  10. Check out my blog. My daughter made some great snowflakes today :), and we posted step by step instructions on how to make them.
  11. Actually I should have it tomorrow. You can spend the weekend looking at it! :)
  12. You can but the book directly from K12 without signing up with the school. I ordered it a few days ago. I can't wait to get my hands on it! Here is the link: https://ecomm.k12.com/ecommerce/public/itemDetails.xhtml?cid=109863
  13. My son is trying to convince me that Spore is educational. He considers it part of science and social studies. I am not sure about that, but I do think it is a great game. Although we have it for the PC, not DS.
  14. I have a HD Flip, and I use it all the time. The quality is great, even when watching it on a bigger screen, and it is so easy to use, edit, and share. It does not have many options though. You can turn it on, zoom in or out, record, and playback. I think it is the size and ease of use I like. The flip is small and fits in my purse. It is always with me, and because of this, I find myself using it so much more.
  15. I just placed an order for a bunch of Mr. Men books my son wants for Christmas. I was debating whether or not to upgrade the shipping, but I really can't afford to pay the extra amount. It said it would be here by the 21st. Hopefully I won't be disappointed.
  16. No one in my house likes the wheel. My youngest son uses it as a toy now, as it never got used.
  17. I am using this with my twins for science this year. We are finishing up Cycles now, and we will start Systems in January. This is a great science program, and my children seem to be enjoying it. My feeling is that you need to work through the program in order because several of the topics are related. For example we studied human reproduction after plant reproduction, and the lessons related to what had been learned in the plant unit. If we had skipped around we would have missed some necessary knowledge.
  18. :iagree: We have been using Scratch for a year, and it is amazing! My twins love it, and my youngest son programs on it all the time. He makes very complex games now, and he has learned to type on the computer because he loves to add dialogue to the games.
  19. I'd get an iPod touch. My kids have one, and there are some great games available for it. There are some nice educational games too, and other great applications.
  20. ITunes has it as a download. I think it is $9.99. This is my favorite Christmas movie, and when I realized I had lost our copy in a move this year I downloaded it from ITunes. The kids and I have watched it three times in the last week.
  21. My son had some of the same struggles at 8. For language arts he listened to an audio book every week. This was very beneficial to him as he wasn’t up to reading too many books, but he loved listening to them. In addition we did Growing with Grammar. I found the book very dry, but it was easy to understand for my son. We worked through it slowly but consistently, and he made it through the whole book by the end of the year. Along with a handwriting book this is all we did for language arts that year. It may not seem like much, but it really worked for him and by the next year he was ready for more work.
  22. The sample looks great. I would also love to hear from anyone who has used it. If you get any info from the author please share. :001_smile:
  23. My daughter loves Legos. She will play with them for hours. She likes to set up scenes or villages. Her favorite sets over the years have been any of the Harry Potter Legos, the Lego neighborhood sets (The Green Grocer is her favorite), and the Medieval Market Village. Her only complaint over the years is that there are not enough girl characters. I agree with her on that, and I wish Lego would create a few more.
