  1. Thank you so much ladies! ALL of your comments (pro and con) have helped me so much.
  2. Hi Ladies! Please tell me everything you love about CC! Does your child REALLY learn all that? :) I'm interested to hear what your children actually learned and if you plan to stick with it as long as possible. :bigear: Thanks! :bigear:
  3. ok...I'm an attempting SWR user. There was suppose to be a workshop/class in my area, but nothing came of it. I have no idea where to begin. I've read through the material and still lack the concrete basics to begin (journal, etc...) So, right now, I'm just dictating and having them write the words on paper. ??????? Can someone give me the simple beginnings? :bigear: Thanks everyone!
  4. as we wrote a "d" he would "first the drum and then the stick! circle around making a the "c" part of the "d" and say:"first the drum..." Stroked straight up and say, "...and then the..." Stroke straight down and say: "stick" "first the drum and then the stick!" hear the "d" in the word drum?! Don't worry about it though. If he is still writing backwards at age 7...then I would be concerned! Have fun!
  5. If you are teaching by the trivium, what do you do with your kids in the grammer stage as it compares to Classical Conversations? I'm wanting to implement memory work, but just needing to get a clear picture of what that looks like at home and getting my hands on the facts they are suppose to have memorized over the next few years. Thanks!!
  6. I can't tell you how much your responses have helped. For many, too much information is overwhelming. FOR ME...I don't know the concept of TOO MUCH INFORMATION!!:D The more information I have (pros and cons) the more direction I feel!! If you have anymore thoughts...PLEASE share! Thanks sooooo much!!!
  7. Can anyone help me understand how solid (or not!) Classical Conversations is? It seems incredible, but I'd like to know from those that have experienced it first hand! There is a group starting in our area and I've been asked to consider tutoring. :glare: I have a 2,4,6 and 9 year old.:tongue_smilie: Here are my questions: 1) About how much time per week do tutors spend preparing? 2) About how long does it take your child to complete his or her work at home? 3) Is it too demanding with this number and ages of children? 4) Standardized test scores? 5) How have you seen this program compare to other curriculums? 6) How much supplementing will I need to consider? (if any) I need some direction!:bigear: Thanks everyone!
  8. These have samples to listen to on just about every song choice. They even have other subjects. I have yet to buy them. I'm still unsure. Anyway, let us know what you end up with and how you like it.:D http://www.songsforteaching.com/index.html
  9. I was thinking of going with Explode the Code this year. How solid is this phonics program? Does it have spelling words to go along with it? Thanks!!
  10. Thanks! A couple more questions. Do you feel like it is a very solid foundation in understanding numbers? How (if you've tested) have they done on standardized test? What would...say... like a 9 year old learn? Shiller seems easier to follow, but I'm afraid that it may not be as solid of a foundation that we need. I'm prob. wrong. In fact, I have a friend that uses it and she said that her 4th grader is getting ready for algebra. I'm so tourn. Thanks for your input!!
  11. The time issue is a great point. My 8 year old doesn't seem to be catching math. Last year we used A Beka. While it got us through our first year, I know that I'd rather go to something else. The other day she had a quick review and the problem was 4+2=_____. She literally held up her fingers and actually counted to four on her left hand and then went to her right and said, "five, six. Is the answer six, mom?" My heart dropped. She didn't recognize that all she had to do was count by 2s. I say that to say that I may just begin her with my soon to be 7 year old at Level B. That way they can also play the games together and it would may the next few years a little easer. What do you guys think? Also, another thing on time...my husband is a college educator and he doesn't work on Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun. I'm thinking I can pull this off. Shiller does in fact seem easier to accomplish, but I want a strong strong foundation of thinking math. KWIM? Thanks so much!
  12. Hey! Newbie here! I'm struggling with my math curr. choice. Can someone help me compare Right Start Math and Shiller Math? I've read countless reviews on them individually, but I would like to get an opinion from anyone that has used both. I have a 2,4,6,8 year old incase you need to consider that in your advice!!!! LOL! Can't wait to hear what you guys say! THANKS!!!!
