Not sure about lessons, but Bobbi Brown has a couple terrific books: http://www.amazon.com/Bobbi-Brown-Makeup-Manual-Everyone/dp/0446581356/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1353438586&sr=8-1&keywords=bobbi+brown She's a minimalist. :001_smile:

Humans are becoming less intelligent
Stacy in NJ replied to SeekingSimplicity's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm not buying it. Humans have scored higher on IQ tests over the decades so that they've had to be re-normed. We're just using different types of intelligence as our needs require. -
It's weird that Letterman would quiz the British PM. Letterman's a prat (in American that's ass). :D

I use that interjection (?) frequently - ggggaaaaaaaawwww!!!!

Well, at least they spoke a kind of English, unlike, say, George I or George II (Hanovers) who spoke that fancy form of English called German.

About 3/4 of Britons don't speak the King's English very well, either - Scots, Welsh, Irish and many of the English.

What's your favorite fast food place?
Stacy in NJ replied to Luanne's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Chipotle and Five Guys. -
A zero or nearly zero carb diet is called ketogenic. Google it and you'll find tons of info. The Atkins diet which is ketogenic in the early stage allows for 20 carbs daily. ETA: Because a ketogentic diet doesn't produce insulin in the body and instead produces leptin hunger usually isn't much of an issue. Cravings for sugar are common in the first couple weeks but typically diminish if carb intake is kept low. Leptin acts as an appetite suppressant in the brain.

What should I read next?
Stacy in NJ replied to Kim in Appalachia's topic in General Education Discussion Board
You might want to look at the Laini Taylor books Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Days of Blood and Starlight. Both are excellent. They fall into the YA category but are particularly good. The Partick Rothfuss books are quite good. Neil Gaiman has several more stand alone novels that are good. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_6?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=laini+taylor+daughter+of+smoke+and+bone&sprefix=laini+%2Caps%2C0&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Alaini+taylor+daughter+of+smoke+and+bone&ajr=0 http://www.amazon.com/Neverwhere-A-Novel-Neil-Gaiman/dp/0060557818/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1352600855&sr=8-1&keywords=neil+gaiman+neverwhere http://www.amazon.com/Anansi-Boys-Neil-Gaiman/dp/0061342394/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1352600918&sr=1-7&keywords=neil+gaiman -
Small business and employee bonuses
Stacy in NJ replied to QuirkyKapers's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'd do this carefully, though. I wouldn't want employee A to quit until someone new had some time and training completed. I wouldn't want employee A to feel too threatened, at least not initially. Hiring some one new may also light a fire under employee A's butt. :tongue_smilie: Also, if employee A is doing payroll, your dh needs to get a outside payroll compay (or he can do it himself) to process his pay. He needs to keep his financial circumstances private. Stop giving that info to employee A. -
Small business and employee bonuses
Stacy in NJ replied to QuirkyKapers's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Your dh should look for a new hire who he can train to fill in the gap some of the responsibilities Employee A is currently filling. It sounds like employee A has got your husband between a rock and a hard place because your dh needs his help to support the business. Your dh needs to diversify his work force so no one employee is irreplaceable. Having some overlap in skills and experience is absolutely necessary when running a small business. Tell your dh to hire a promising part-timer to train to potentially replace employee A. -
I'm all for being healthy, but
Stacy in NJ replied to chickenpatty's topic in General Education Discussion Board
But ketogenic diets aren't anecdotial. They are a widely scientifically accepted treatment for seizure disorders recommended by highly trained and sophistocated physicians. I do get what you're saying about the cancer thing, though. -
Aggressively shop for the best quality vs. cost cabinets you can find. The applicances, flooring, and lighting are secondary to the cost of the cabinets. If you have a family member who's a carpenter consider ordering the cabinets from a whole-salers and installing them yourselves. Look for local cabinet makers. Before drugs, ketogenic diets were the only treatment available to folks with epilepsy. Currently, many progressive and cutting-edge children's hospitals use the diet either alone or in conjuction with drugs. It is widely effective primarily for pediatric epilepsy. http://www.charliefoundation.org/medical-opinions.html To the op, I get that it must be incredibly frustrating when people give poorly informed advice. My oldest is dyslexic and my youngest has TS (Tourettes syndrome), but you might want to try to sort through some of the weird information/advice you hear. You just might encounter something that's actually useful from time to time. -

Why am I not losing weight?
Stacy in NJ replied to Sarah CB's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree: Counting and restricting calories can be counter productive. Fat/protein/carb balance is the key. Increasing your fat and protein intake while decreasing your carbs may help. You're eating quite a bit of fruit and limiting fat. -
I need a high fat food
Stacy in NJ replied to Night Elf's topic in General Education Discussion Board
If she were my dd I'd have her bring in something high in saturated fat (butter) as a good fat and something high in trans fat (junk food) as a bad fat. The status of saturated fat is controversial, though, so I'd look for something with trans fat on the label. -
