  1. Thank you everybody. I am so excited to get to go to Richmond and can't wait to see everything. Science Museum is a definite. Is walking the Monument Ave feasible? Is the Petersburg National Battlefield close to Pamplin Park? Is that any good? I have the places you all have recommended bookmarked. I'll be busy reading tonight. Nothing like waiting till the last minute. :) ETA: Would Maymont still be good after visiting Mt. Vernon?
  2. Wow, really? Yes, I am a sugar addict (as are other members of my family) and I have a huge family history of alcoholism. Off to read this thread...
  3. Hi y'all! We are headed to Richmond tomorrow and I was hoping you could help me figure out must sees. I am scared of downtown parking. How easy is it to navigate and find parking? I have children ages 2-14. So, where should we go? :bigear:
  4. I have 30 min, 4-5 days a week. I do cardio 3 days and strength 2 days. On 4 day weeks, I combine strength w/ cardio on one of the cardio days and add 10 minutes. I find it to be as effective for me as when I was doing cardio for an hour 6 days a week. Good luck! I struggle w/ the time thing and look forward to having more time to exercise( though it makes me sad too because that means my babies are growing up. lol)
  5. I had a teacher in 6th grade who did that. SOmething about Nostradamus. We're all gonna be dead due to ice age and nukes by a particular date. Yada yada. Scared me so bad. That teacher was a nut but she continued teaching for a few more years. (She also threw books at kids, but that's a whole nuther story.)
  6. I have no advice beyond what everyone else has already said, just wanted to give :grouphug:s. One thing that helped me was writing out our goals/vision and posting them on the wall. Why are you homeschooling? What do you hope to accomplish? etc. I have a whole lot less frustration and our days are more enjoyable. Good luck!
  7. Okay thanks. I think we'll just eat there for lunch and eat sandwiches for dinner on the way back.
  8. [quote name=Stacia;4327880 Food is not allowed on the grounds of Mt. Vernon' date=' but there is a cafeteria & a restaurant there. Otherwise, you'll need to exit the grounds to eat at picnic tables near the parking areas.[/quote] We are going in 2 weeks, and I was wondering how far it is from the house to the parking lot. My thought is we would come back to the car to eat, but I have littles and don't want to walk forever back to the car. Thanks! ETA: Also, can you exit and reenter on the same ticket?
  9. I'd call your vet STAT and give benedryl just in case. Good luck!
  10. I'm not sure yet because we haven't done this before. Our plan is that he has to be obedient, diligent, and respectful. If he is all day, with no infractions, he gets one thing back that night. We'll start small and get bigger as each day progresses. On the otherhand, each time he is not obedient, diligent, and respectful, he will get 2 hours added to the original 5 days. At the end of the 5 (or however many it ends up being), all privs and toys, etc will be returned.
  11. :grouphug:'s. I am crying after reading this because I, too, am at my wit's end w/ my 10 year old son. I thought it was just him or bad parenting so while I am so sorry you are going through this, I am also encouraged that he isn't turning into some awful person and that maybe it's a normal part of growing up. But boy, do I hate it. I miss my sweet, loving, considerate, helpful guy. This person he is lately is a stranger. I just emptied his room of everything tonight. For the next 5 days, he gets to do nothing but school, chores, and helping his family. And he earns things back only by showing respect and obedience. Good luck with your son. I hope things turn around quickly (for all of us).
  12. I have no clue how to be girly! My 3 year old is a fashion diva. Maybe she'll teach me!:D
  13. I love Christmas! I have most relatives' gifts bought, and I just made our first purchase today for my children. :)
