S/O Vitamix Hit me with your fav smoothie recipe
Gisel_le replied to Chris in VA's topic in The Chat Board
My absolute favorite smoothie: 1 frozen banana + 1/2 cup frozen fruit 1/2 tsp vanilla 1 scoop wheatgrass powder 1 T. chia seeds 1T. nut butter (my fave is sunflower) 1 1/2 T carob powder 1 1/4 cups water I change up my nut butter and my fruits. Otherwise I eat this almost every day. It keeps me full for 4 hours!! You could also use almond milk or whatever, but I have found water to work just as well. -

I haven't found a good crock pot recipe for mac and cheese that doesn't require boiling the noodles first. I hope somebody has a recipe for you.

Astronomy - Castalia house???
Gisel_le replied to Gisel_le's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Thank you both for replying. I had no idea the world wide telescope existed. Totally cool! -
Good morning Hive! I am attempting to put together next year's schedule, and my son decided he wants to study astronomy. I like WTM's plan of study, but I need more hand holding and accountability. Has anyone used Great Courses as curriculum? Do they have projects, tests, writing assignments, etc? I really like the look of this: http://www.castaliahouse.com/downloads/category/homeschool/ Anybody know anything about them? I can't find reviews or comments or anything. It is a secular program though they offer a biblical component. Looking at the samples, I'm not really sure what direction they are taking with that component. I'd love to hear what others have done for Astronomy.

I have two kids taking Y lessons. One is still afraid to put her face in the water and threw a royal fit last night when the teacher dunked her anyway. The other kid is close to making the swim team. These kids are a year apart. All to say I think it just depends on the kid.

Winter around the corner, SAD and light therapy
Gisel_le replied to TwoEdgedSword's topic in The Chat Board
My husband says you can get them at Lowes. Make sure they are full spectrum and burns at least 5k. We ordered ours from www.1000bulbs.com. -
Winter around the corner, SAD and light therapy
Gisel_le replied to TwoEdgedSword's topic in The Chat Board
I don't use a therapy box. Instead, we have full spectrum 5K or above lights in all our light fixtures thoughout the house. It has helped immensely with my SAD. I also take extra vitamin D Fall and Winter. -

I can't vote because I am gluten-free, but I just wanted to thank you for the laugh. What a great poll. -

Oh my goodness. Laughing out loud!!! -
Carrie, thanks for the link. I am checking it out now. PeachyDoodle, what weight would you recommend? I probably don't have the names of the moves right. I think I meant cleans, not snatch. I am wondering if I just have weak wrists. They are tiny for an adult (the rest of me isn't. How is that fair? haha!). Anyway, off to check out the Girls gone strong website.

I swing with a heavier ball, but I use a lighter weight for the other exercises. Well, I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Milovany, it hits the outside of my forearm, right above the wrist. It isn't really a smack so much as it swings into that position but when it falls upon my arm, it hurts. Did you have a trainer teach you? I looked online and found that bruising seems pretty typical of the forearm area. So, not sure where to go from here. I really like using the kettlebells but I can't walk around all beat up. ;)

Garden of Life Raw D3- I get it from Luckyvitamin.com. I use the higher dose in the winter and it is a huge help with my SAD.

I just recently started the kettlebell. I got them to do swings, but discovered I actually like working out with them so I want to learn how to do all the various moves. However, the bell smacking into my wrists HURT! I could not do the snatch or press at all. I did do the clean and thought I was doing okay with that until I woke up this morning with bruises on my wrists/forearm area. I was only using 15 lbs. Am I doing it wrong or are bruised forearms par for the course? Do you wear wrist bands? Do they provide enough cushion? I do want to add that I am using the DVD Iron Core Kettlebell. She shows proper form and I think I am doing it right but...?? Any and all advice would be super appreciated. I am only on the first video and I am feeling pretty discouraged at the moment.

I can't believe it either! Glad your first day back went well. We school year round but went camping all last week for a small vacation. I expected yesterday to be a harder than normal Monday , but it went great!

Hugs to you, dear mama. My husband and I lost our almost adopted, foster kids due to the same reason. It changed our lives and we never fostered again. I will pray everything works out for y'all and that Squishy gets to stay with y'all, who obviously love him very much and are his family.

I have no idea if this workbook would work. I just wanted to tell you I am jealous it was 79 degrees where you live. It was 18 here. 18. :) -
Praying. Please update after the hearing. This just rips my heart up.
