He needs simple and step by step. He can write a solid paragraph, but we're starting essays and he needs scaffolding. He is very literal (engineer-type mind!) I need hand-holding as the teacher too! Looking for a traditional essay approach (ie-not Bravewriter, WWS, etc.) that he can use across curriculum. Something that teaches how to do a solid 3-5 paragraph essay. Thanks!

WOW!!! So many great ideas! It really helps also to hear *negatives* about certain careers (like the BSN being so physically demanding). I really don't have huge preferences. I would like something that isn't physically taxing, or mathy, and I really don't want to work with kids. I do have some interest in physical fitness-so maybe occupational or physical therapy assistant may be a good fit. I am very good at organizing. I'd probably like to be a high level administrative assistant but not too much money there. I am basically flexible. Honestly, I HAVE NO DESIRE to work at all-I am a homebody and never ever had any interest in working outside the home. I'm sad that I have to. So I pretty much just want the easiest thing I can do. I know that sounds bad :(

I'm 46, but my husband in 10 yrs older and not in good health. I need to start planning ahead because whether he is ok or not, I will need to be able to make money long-term, and I don't want to be stuck in retail! (which is all I am qualified to do!) My kids are middle and high school, but we may need to put them in school so I can start prepping to work. I don't want to be 55 and THEN trying to get a career! And I really need to do this now bcuz the financial stress of sustaining the family is causing dh's health to further decine. Any ideas of types of work I can get into quickly, with minimal school time to prep (and we don't have any money for school-it would all be done on loans)? Note: I am NOT mathy at all. I thought of nursing but I need a type of career than can last me the next 20 years (or more), so no heavy lifting, etc. I don't really care what type of work it is, as long as it isn't too difficult, can be done into my 60s, and not a lot of school.

And how long did it take? Did you gain over your whole body, or just certain areas? Did you gain back water weight but then lose some of it when your body stabilized? Is there anything to do to help not gain as much, or not? I've been on a diuretic for a year for medical reasons, and just went off it, and I'm already feeling "fluffy"! I haven't changed my diet one smidge either!

I am sorry I have been absent-was sick! I am so grateful for the responses in this thread-both the positives and negatives are so important to know when scouting out an area. I was ROFL because I am from Buffalo-born and raised!!!! We know it would be hot in summers; part of why we're coming is to get away from the winters here so we can stay active as we get older. Also, our budget doesn't allow for much travel, so it would be nice to *live* in a warm area since we can't afford to *go* to a warm area for vacations! (We haven't been on more than a 3 day vacation our whole 18 year marriage-part of the sacrifice we make to have me home to homeschool!) Bugs probably won't bother us, though I don't like the sound of fire ants! Are there deer ticks in Florida? Lyme disease has been the bane of our family's existence. I cracked up about the houseguests info-because from the minute we mentioned our possible Florida move to my parents (they still live in Buffalo), they have been pushing for it so they can come visit! Can you tell me more about what suburbs are nice (that would avoid I-4, since that seems to be a huge issue!) Our home here in upstate NY is about $220,000 for a three bedroom 1.5 bath, about 1600 square feet. We'd like something similar there, and hopefully could get something similar for a lower price! Also, can you please describe the types of housing available and what is considered generally more desirable? It seems different from what we have up north. I see a lot of condo type homes, some houses that look like they back up to maybe a canal? And looks like lots of townhouses? Are lots of houses built in community type developments? Do most houses have no basement? If not, what do you do for storage? Would we want something closer to Orlando, or Kissimmee? How about taxes, the local economy, anything else you can think of? Thanks so much!

I have a 9th and 6th grader, and I would LOVE to be done (we've always homeschooled). If we had a good school option around here, I would totally send them. I liked homeschooling when they were younger, but I feel my enthusiasm is just gone. We've had a lot of health and other issues here, so that has all completely drained me. Plus I'm in my mid-40s with an older husband (who isn't in great health), no retirement savings, paycheck to paycheck, etc. I feel like I should go back to school NOW before I get much older so I can get into some career to help out financially. My best case scenario though would be to send them to a good school and financially be able to just stay home-that is my dream!

Looking for a way to use my phone to listen to music, but without using up any data minutes (and without wireless connection). I don't really want a playlist that just plays random music, but would rather be able to put a bunch of songs on it that I can then scroll through and choose what I want to play (basically make up my own playlist that I can either play straight through OR choose songs from it.) If I get radio type apps, do they use data minutes? If not, what are some good Top 40 type radio apps? Thanks!

My first smartphone-what are your favorite must-have or cool apps?

I am so excited, checking out all these apps! Thank you so much. It's a lot of fun ROFL about RunPee!!!!! -
Thanks to all for the great replies!! Sounds like I need to see a PT. Which I was hoping to avoid bcuz we are already in serious medical debt due to other issues. I can see why the brace may be a bad idea!! I'm going to call insurance tmrow and see how much they would pay toward a PT. I wonder how to go about finding a great one for my particular issues? I'm sure there are so many mediocre ones around. Maybe I should start some kegels til I can get into a PT-lol!

My mother has a dowager's hump. I am 46 and not getting one of those, but my posture is terrible and lately I'm noticing that my back looks very rounded just above my bra strap (when I wear a tighter shirt), even when I'm standing straight! I definitely need to take steps to correct my posture, and just being mindful of it isn't working. I want to get a posture brace to wear most of the time during the day-any ideas for good brands/types, etc? I mainly need one for my upper back-something that will hold my shoulders back, etc. (my lower back is ok) Thanks!

I'm coming from a crummy, very old tracfone which I hardly use. I'm now getting a tracfone smartphone-just a simple one (Samsung Centura). I am not tech savvy at all! One big thing I wondered: I now use an older mp3 player at the gym; how can the smartphone best replace that for my gym music? The smartphone is too big to wear on my arm, like I do my mp3 player. Would I clip it at my waist with some kind of clip? If so, what kind? (I don't wear a belt there; I'd have to clip it to my workout pants somehow.) Would I use regular earbuds or should I get wireless earbuds? The phone is Bluetooth compatible-is there such a thing as Bluetooth earbuds? And if so, where would I wear the phone? What's the cheapest and most effective way to handle this? Also, where do I get the music? I basically listen to the pop radio stations at the gym; would I continue to do this, or are there apps or something I should be looking into? I am totally CLUELESS-thanks for any help!
