  1. We just started LL a few wks ago with dd just turned 8 (advanced student though), and love it to pieces. I read her the lesson and we discuss it since that's the meat of it, and she does the wkshts mostly on her own. We do talk through what interests us about the word derivatives, but she does a lot of it on her own too. I set her up at the computer and she listens to the vocab on her own too, and practices her flashcards on her own as well. Sometimes we quiz each other (I'm learning it also.) She reads the history to herself too, sometimes we talk through the history wkshts, sometimes not if it's pretty straightforward. I'm always right at hand so we comment to each other throughout. There is no prep time at all. It's laid out so well. This is one of our all-time favorites!
  2. PL is the perfect intro for 6. We then tried Minimus at 7 and while it's fun and did engage her, it wasn't a step by step intro to the language which her logical mind and my non-Latin mind needed! It quickly lost us and left us wondering why they were using certain endings some places and not others, etc., with little explanation. We're now in Lively Latin, which is AMAZING-we love it, and we will add in Minimus for fun sometimes. With upcoming ds almost 5, knowing what I now know, I will do Prima at probably 6.5, Lively a year or so later.
  3. I got these for dd8 to read and she has read them MANY times-loves them, and I can feel good she's reading wholesome stories. I've seen but not used the Pathway workbooks. I preferred them to R+S 2, of which we did use the Bible stories (and they were well done, but not as engaging.)
  4. you used so that I can try them instead of CLP? I thought their 1st grade test was very hard last yr and want something easier for dd for this yr, since we're just testing as a formality to the pacify the state regs. Thanks!
  5. I liked the way we used to be able to scan down and view everything quickly, so I've been using the hybrid format to scan through many of the responses in threads-makes me feel a little more "at home" like the old boards, and I've heard others say this as well. Also trying to find a way to make the "new posts" feature work better so it only brings up the brand new stuff from the couple boards I frequent (see my previous thread on this)-kind of tweak it to perform a similar function to the color changes you would see on what you had previously viewed on the old board. What are you doing?
  6. Just bumping this up since it got buried yesterday. I hope this is okay to do!
  7. I like that they use Guerber 13 Colonies and then Story of the Great Republic throughout AMHYS 1 and part of 2, but Great Republic ends at the end of the 19th century. So what does AMHYS 3 use for the main spines? The website doesn't give any clue. Thanks!
  8. MathShark and also Flashmaster-both can be used independently. There are also some good and free online math games to practice facts-perhaps someone can jump in and recommend some.
  9. We all appreciate your hard work and generosity in providing and maintaining these boards for us!
