  1. We make homemade cannolis. We make our own shells. We have driven out of state some years to find the right type of ricotta. Thankfully dh found a local source this year. People rave about them. I never eat any other cannolis. These are the only ones I’ll est. The homemade shells make such a difference. My dd is also planning to make a homemade cherry pie.
  2. It does not sound familiar to me. But doesn’t really sound like something I’d watch since I’m not into murder and detective type shows, or dark humor. But maybe someone else here saw it. Bumping for you.
  3. I’m going to do this again this year. I enjoyed seeing everyone’s last year. If you do Goodreads, what was your Least Shelved Book of the year? Mine was David Guterson’s The Final Case. David Guterson was one of the influences to help me decide to homeschool (or maybe he convinced me to stick it out that first year), so I have a soft spot in my heart for him. I’ve read several of his books. This one had good writing, but it didn’t quite come together for me.
  4. Stay home. This is not the Before Times. I think there is more understanding of caution, and less eye rolling than there was in the Before Times.
  5. Not a dental school. A dental HYGIENE program. Frequently (but not always) associated with community colleges. But I see that you like your pediatric dentist, so I understand why you might want to stick with your current practice.
  6. I agree it is an outrage and you should continue pursuing getting what you deserve. If you had the papers in on time, there should be a way to fix it. It’s easier for someone in HR to do nothing. Don’t let them. In the meantime, I’m obliged to tell you that if there is a dental hygiene school nearby, you can all get your cleanings, x-rays, and dentist exams for very very little money. (The school where I am the director, it is free, but that’s unusual.) I don’t know how old your kids are, but if they still have some of their baby teeth, students are probably dying to meet your kids because they are required to see patients with “mixed dentition”. But keep bugging HR!
  7. This is a great picture! And it makes sense that a short legged table would be in an elementary school nurse’s office would be there. Short legs for short people.
  8. But if it’s just a place to rest (or recover from shopping) why the short legs? I’d recover better in a chair (or a bed that wasn’t so difficult to get up from).
  9. My sil saw a picture of something today. It looks sort of like a doctor’s exam table, but the legs are very short. Sil told dh “oh I know what that is! It’s a menstrual cramp bed. Y’know they have them in women’s restrooms”. Dh believed her cuz, well, he’s never been in a women’s restroom. But I have! I’ve been in 62 years worth of public restroom. If there has been a place to sit (or even conceivably recline), I have NEVER heard anything referred to as a menstrual cramp bed!! Have you? Or is this just my sil being my sil?
  10. Yes. Cillian Murphy. I don’t think ive seen anything he is in. Just the trailers are a turnoff And this is interesting cuz all this time I thought it was Benedict Cumberbatxh (couldn’t think of his name last night). I don’t like him either!
  11. Who’s that guy in Oppenheimer? Shiver. Something about him I just find unpleasant
  12. One other question… when were you a carrier? Years ago? Or relatively recent?
  13. That’s nice to hear. This guy always leaves the paper right at our door, no matter the weather. I imagine he doesn’t have as many customers as he used to since people aren’t doing newspapers as much.
  14. We never see our newspaper carrier. He always comes before we’re awake. He’s been our guy since we moved here 13 years ago. Dh and I have this discussion every year. I remember my brothers being newspaper carriers years and years ago - 1970’s. They had to collect every week. Some people would tip a dime, or a quarter, maybe there were even a few that gave a tip of a dollar every week. But we pay our subscription online and don’t give a tip weekly (or monthly or ever). The only tip we give is at Christmas. So with my brothers’ history I always want to give more than dh. $30 is ridiculous if you divide by 52 weeks. I think a minimum of $50 is appropriate, but I don’t even think that is enough. So I’m curious, if you don’t mind sharing, how much do you tip?
  15. So, it’s hard for me to get the full story about this person who is not my relative, and I’m hearing things second and thirdhand. I’m more optimistic today that he might have enough money. But the person where I got the information from is not always the most reliable source. So, this is all good information.
  16. It IS Pennsylvania. Although his estranged children are not in PA
  17. I found out today that he probably has enough with his small pension and his SS benefits to pay for his monthly AL place. So, that’s good news. It’s not the swankiest of places but it’s not bad either.
  18. So, am I understanding correctly that Medicaid will not pay for assisted living? Only nursing home?
  19. So, what kind of facilities would these be? Through the state?
  20. This is regarding someone I know peripherally; I’m not close to this person but someone I care about is (sort of) close to him. Elderly person had stroke about 6 months ago. He is divorced about 20 years. Has strained relationships with adult children. After stroke was in rehab facility, but elderly ex-wife can no longer keep checking in on him. Somehow or another they managed to sell his house (maybe his oldest has POA, dunno). But due to poor lifestyle and financial choices, whatever he got from the sale of the house is pretty much all he has. And I don’t expect it’s much. He was two weeks ago transferred to an assisted living facility. Wild guess: all his money (aside from pension and SS) will be used up in 6 months paying for this new facility What happens when his money runs out? (Assume his ex-wife, children, and siblings have no interest in paying now for his poor choices of the past 20+ years.) He doesn’t necessarily need a nursing home, but neither is he able after the stroke to adequately live on his own. They won’t keep him at this private facility forever if he can’t pay. So what do they do with people who can’t pay?
  21. Wonderful! How exciting!! I hope the complications are minor and healing is quick. Enjoy your grandbaby!
  22. This is great news! I was worried for him. So glad he’s home!
  23. And maybe I just need to stop taking baths. 2 or 3 (or more) times a week, I take a nice relaxing bath. So that probably adds to the soap scum build up.
  24. So, I use Softscrub for the weekly cleaning of the tub. I don’t believe Lysol would remove the soap scum that is stuck on. I’m intrigued by the idea of the idea that if I get rid of my Dial soap and use liquid body wash, I won’t have the problem. Not sure if I’ll be able to convince hubby to make the switch, but I’ll suggest it. Magic Erasers just fall apart on this soap scum.
