  1. We were in the same boat. We found that drinks took up the most room. So we opted to get a cheap mini fridge for drinks and put it in the garage.
  2. I totally get it. I have been told "must be nice" quite snidely when I answered that I don't have a job outside the home. One more than one occasion. This is from people who started the conversation with me. When people bring up finances, I should be able talk about some of the things we've done within the context of the conversation without being called names. I try not to care, but geeze, do people think these are endearing comments? I no longer try to qualify our position by pointing out to them our ten and eighteen year old cars. Or our Aldi and thrift shop lifestyle. We do these things to support our priorities. Which are different from theirs. I went off on somebody once. So I get the anger. But I just have to try not to care. I've also learned to bring my kindle with me and quit talking if necessary! I'm sorry this happened to you. People suck sometimes.
  3. http://the virtualinstructor.com is a great site. We like it here. It has most mediums and lesson plans.
  4. I recently signed up for this again. We are doing the low carb plan right now. I just decided to let it be my brain, so to speak. Once I start deciding that I can do just as good a job and why should I spend the money, etc. I run off track. I make a point of only tweaking it just a tiny bit. For example, this week called for a citrus salad as a side. We just did a side salad. Or one called for chicken thighs, but I used the chicken breasts I had in the freezer. I've just come the point where I don't want to think about it. Some people don't have a problem with this sort of thing, but I apparently do. If we don't like something, well, at least we're fed. I did my job, lol!
  5. You guys are awesome! Checking web sites and prices. Never knew it was out there! My son is thrilled. Now just waiting for the doc to forward his prescription. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
  6. Can you advise? We have a season pass to a water park. My 13yo ds wears glasses, which I fear him wearing on the slides and such. I want him to have fun, but a blurry world is detracting him from that. I wear glasses as well, so I understand his frustration. Contacts are not an option at this time. Do "sport glasses" hold up to water parks? They are pretty pricey. Like REALLY pricey; about $300. Would regular plastic prescription sunglasses be a better route? Any of you BTDT and can offer some ideas? Thanks!
  7. If you're looking for free, discoveryk12.com is a wonderful resource. I would, however, add your own math. Also, homeschoolcollegeusa.com is a great place to get some ideas. I used discoveryk12. Our library has a free service where students submit their writing and it is corrected by tutors and returned. This was a wonderful resource for the daily writing that was assigned.
  8. Thanks so much for passing this on. I signed up as a post-Mother's Day present to myself!
  9. I have to pipe in here about printing the lyrics. While it was a different circumstance I did this when my boys 11 & 13 started using the term dou*** bag (which they learned at scouts). I made them take turns reading the medical definition out loud to me and dad. They never used the term again.
  10. You may want to look at Calvert. They are an all in one with with options to be a part of their online community. I personally haven't used them because it is pricey. You may also want to look at the online high schools such as American School or even the high school distance program from Texas Tech University. (Don't know how to link). Good luck!
  11. One more vote for yes. I love mine. I also got it at the pawn shop for $30 which makes me love it even more!
  12. Get her The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr. I learned of it on this board and with it my husband and I quit years ago. We have recommended it many times.
  13. I have been using DiscoveryK12 for two years now. It assumes one has access to the internet. Completely free.
  14. I accidentally down voted this thread and I don't know how to change it. Fat fingers on a small screen. Sorry!
  15. My son is your age and I have been freaking out about high school as well. Our public school is also not an option. I came across a web site homeschoolcollegeusa.com. It changed the way I think about high school and college. I plan on utilizing a majority of their outline to help me. We'll clep out a lot of the stuff and leave the things he likes for actual class time at the cc. So when he's about sixteen or so he can get into the labs and really decide if science is the way he wants to go. (I know my post count is tiny. I have no affiliation with the web site. I am the ultimate lurker)
