  1. I live in a small town and almost everyone in town knows where we live and because my husband and I run a soccer business out of our home, I have no clue how many coaches or parents have come into my house. My neighbors and I all very close, I haven't had that in all neighborhoods, but we are blessed to have developed almost a family relationship with ours.
  2. I'm still new here, but my family recently did such a thing after lots of prayer and many years of preparation. We had been working for 10 years almost to clean out from debt from our previous marriages and many youthful mistakes. Our credit was battered and we had no chance at a home loan. We lived in a lovely home that is huge for us 3600sqft but a small yard, we wanted a smaller house with more land. The market is not horrible here, but not fast either. We knew in order to buy a new home we had to get a real fixer-upper and we work out of the home so we didn't have the option to move and live in a fixer. Our solution, take a loan on our 401k. What we paid in taxes in the penalty for us in the long term would be saved by living from that day forward with no home mortgage again. We purchased a small home on five acres and paid cash for the property. In that time we were able to fix up our little farm as we had cash. It took almost a year. We are living just shy of completely debt free, we are waiting on our current home to be put on the market and sold. Thankfully we don't have alot in the home and that will help us to repay the loan completely. I love Dave Ramsey, listen to him alot, and each family is different your own financial situation may vary from others. Normally, this would not be my first choice, but for us it was a leap towards a better future.
  3. I feel really stupid for asking this question...however... I get confused on English credits and History credits. We don't do boxed lessons. I created a mix of everything based on my classes in college. Daily Spelling, Daily Grammar, Weekly Reading, and Weekly Writing Assignments. This is what he completes for English. Last year we focused on American Literature, this year English Literature. In order to graduate in our state you need Four English Credits. However, am I right to assume that all of this work within a year counts as one English credit?
  4. I was thinking a bookstore in the digital age might not be a great new venture. Depends on the book stores in your area, and access to good libraries. My husband and I stumbled into a business our local community was without a soccer program and we started with 40 kids and now have a three county wide program. The real question is can you do something that will get you local customer base. Best of luck to you...I'm a book lover and spend a mini fortune in my local stores.
  5. I find that church is an excellent place for musicians and opportunities to play. I never had many opportunities to keep up my violin playing. In my 30's I taught myself guitar and play in church.
  6. Thanks so much! Just when I think I might have time to breathe getting through High School it seems BAM you have to start thinking of college in order to make right choices in the rest of High School and early stages of college. Thanks again for the advice!
  7. in most cases communication with the debtor is the key...and I find that it's rare that if you send someone money they frown and don't cash the check. my theory is just keep paying what you can and doing it consistently and you get better responses.
  8. Hi, I'm new here..I was referred by my homeschool buddies. I have a 15 year old and we are starting to have those serious discussions about interest in his future. Does anyone have any information on books that helped your children think about future planning in majors? He says he's interested in many things, but nothing specific. I would love to have a book that might give him some pointers on learning who he is in order to determine what might interest him in the future.
  9. I know many people that have submitted books via blog for a select group of friends or peers to review by chapter. I think it's a great way to get feedback.
  10. Thanks for the opportunity to give this a whirl! I'll respond back after we've finished.
  11. I'm curious how this is going with your daughter? I've taken a very basic introduction in Hebrew when I was in Theology school and have considered picking up a more detailed class.
  12. We are starting Italian lessons, does anyone have any suggestions on how to work the language into speak...groups...or online friends.
