  1. He’s doing quite well in many ways. Largely self supporting at a stage when many kids are still wholly paren supported. Do you already have your downsize home picked out and he won’t fit?
  2. My son got a massive amount of schoolwork done (headed into final week of first semester in public high school) in a short period of time, and went off to spend night and practice for drama class play at friends’. He agreed to finish off a few last parts of the schoolwork with good attitude on Sunday. It was a huge turn around couple of weeks for him.
  3. Arthur Schlesinger Ben Franklin Wangari Maathai Richard Feynman for dessert we have an amazing and decadent hot chocolate cake pudding thing I had in the dining room of the (I think the Temple) one of the Inns of Court in London, best dessert of my life as I recall !, (but we will allow it in this imagination to taste just as wonderful but somehow be very healthy too, and sugar, gluten and casein free... 😉 ) and with some sort of fruit like a special berry I vaguely recall from perhaps Sweden. Or maybe elsewhere. And Brazilian papayas with lemon, and guavas. And grapes at their best from our own grape vines. (Pretend all these fruits are available at once.)
  4. Thanks! We are also Terry Jones fans and this was first I realized that he’d died. 😢
  5. I’m not sure if this is the same, similar, or totally different: https://breggin.com/alert-112-worst-ever-threat-to-our-childrens-brains/
  6. I have deep concerns that adhd symptoms may be lessened short term, but without knowledge of long term safety/harm. I think first read about this direction on Peter Breggin MD’s website .
  7. Might be worth a try—could maybe even be fun and a way to let off steam of one’s own!!!
  8. Consider What you have in common and trying to push conversation and activity that / those ways. It is also okay to alternate conversation about interests to just one of you, so maybe 10 minutes as she rants about rainbow hair or whatever and 10 minutes as you talk About something that’s dear to you and maybe no interest to her.
  9. My border experiences have tended to be Washington/BC and NY/Ontario. Presumably speaking French with each other is because they are from Quebec and that’s their language. Though they probably all will have studied English as their second language, many are not comfortable in it, IME. (Related to work, when I would call to Quebec, someone who could speak comfortably in English sometimes had to be found—so that’s why I think that not all Québécois are comfortable in English, similar to in my current area there being many native Spanish as first language speakers who still struggle with English. (Or to reverse this, even if you are working on a language with kids for homeschooling, unless Language is really your thing and you are deliberately trying for immersion learning, even if you travel to a place where that language is spoken, you would probably speak in English within your family—not to be rude but because English is easier for you to communicate in.) When I dealt with Québécois for work and also with a good friend in university, my approach of trying to meet them in their own language (even quite badly) a tiny bit, “Bonjour. C’est domage mais Je ne parle rien francais. Parlez vous Anglais?” helped a great deal. If I lived that close to Quebec I’d probably use it as an opportunity to try to learn and practice some French. My Quebecois friend in university was bery friendly, so maybe there is a class aspect, or something else going on. She was totally fluent in several languages including English, so language wasn’t a barrier which may have helped. And she didn’t have a bunch of other Québécois to hang out with, so that too might have been part of it. Or just individual personalities. I wonder if you could ask the Canadian National you know who lives where you are for help? Maybe for some useful French phrases, or insight, or how to ask them to bring you garments they try on (or whatever they are making mess of) when done so there’s less mess.
  10. Then I think I’d try the personal I statement approach: “I’m probably pretty touchy lately because of my health issues and some other things going on in my life, it would mean a lot to me if you would please talk about some more uplifting things. I find that hearing about how angry ______ (the real thing she’s ranting about) makes you is really getting me down.” And then immediately introduce another subject, like, “I’m going to try an aerobic conditioning program 3 times per week, do you have any suggestions what would work well and do you have any interest in doing a session together every week or two?” or whatever you think you could shift to
  11. I’m glad it has given you some relief. Zero pain in AM could make your whole day start better! And, Thanks! for posting this. I’ve wondered if it could do anything for some of my own autoimmunity symptoms. I think this thread will be the catalyst to give it a try.
  12. ITA. I think the kid tie is too much and that the kid plaids and horizontal stripe would be too busy. The others including vertical subdued stripe on dark grey at bottoms right are all fine!
  13. Induction I haven’t had but likely will next time I must replace range. Glass top electric is great imo I don’t like regular coil electric much, but if one must one must.
  14. I think one way or another trying to nicely directly address it might be best. Since she’s important to you. She may not even realize it’s bothering you, and maybe if she clearly did, then she would and could desist. Or if not maybe you could jointly work out how to handle it.
  15. He may need much more help in each follow up step. Maybe ask him if he’s ready for you to help with next steps on that. Or rather start with help on the very first step! itsmymove.org Annie e Casey foundation and some other sites like that have materials to help transitioning to independent living (particularly intended for foster care teens, but can apply more broadly) yhough out of date in some parts, the late Marian Latzko has wonderful books on independent living — once again can’t do links on Wtm, but you can search on Amazon and some of her books can be found free now as PDFs They include step by step how to find an apartment, how to clean things...
  16. I read the Fortschen book and thought it was excellent. There is also a second book that comes after iirc.
  17. Even if you don’t personally use audiobooks you could possibly use whatever tech you are reading Wtm on right now just to listen to audio samples. It could give you and idea of potential tones of a few different readers. And be a different approach to deciding what you might like to read in paper and ink. James tends to be lengthy and if not studying for a lit class lends itself to listening and doing something else is what I meant by during laundry. But (if not ghost story) also can be a soothing type of reading for a chapter each night at bedtime.
  18. We get that too. Or stopping in middle of road if a view of a glacier covered mountain top opens in distance
  19. Pen

    Puppy

Murphy and Sadie have similar facial looks! Those eye area patches are so cute for both dogs! You can work on starting recalls and not jumping on people at same time as housetraining and training practice can help tire puppies out too Sadie looks like a puppy who might take to and enjoy clicker
  20. Hmmm maybe would help if In your mind you can think of a legit serious reason? Like in rainbow hair analogy it the friend were worried about their own young adult kids behavior and displacing onto the celebrity? Or maybe just let it sound condescending. ? Or take the I statement approach? “I feel distressed and annoyed (or whatever is accurate for you) when you complain about things like celebrity hair dye .”
  21. Or, just straight out ask, “why is that bothering you ?”
  22. “You know,” shrug,”kids today. So, hey I be bern trying to find out about _____, do you know anything about ?” something messed up my post anyway idea was to change to topic that interests you and ask a question about what’re it is warm mittens, exercise programs...
  23. I’d love some sort of social paddling! What is Dragon boat paddling? Any relation to Viking boats?
