  1. Years ago I had a soft lens 'stuck' on my eye. I used copious amounts of eye drops and tried and tried and tried to pick up the lens with my fingers. My eye was hurting like you wouldn't believe, but still the lens would not come out. It turned out that the lens had come out and fallen onto the floor where I couldnt see it and I was actually picking up the surface of my eyeball. Just make certain that this is not happening now. After that, flush the eye with lots of drops/saline, place a finger side-ways under the lower lashes and push the whole lower lid up against the eye. If the lens is there, this will push the lens up so it can be seen and grasped easily. If there is any redness on the eye I wouldn't use lenses for 24hrs to allow the eye to heal.
  2. If you look on the internet for activities for St David's Day, Welsh dragon crafts etc you will find quite a few ideas. If you have time and money, you may be able to find dragon emblems from a celtic type store.
  3. When I made enquiries about it with people who know computers they were all adamant that it would be a very risky venture to undertake. I was told that the other person would be able to access my computer files. How I don't know, but the neighbour was quite a computer geek and would know how. And yes, as the account holder, I would have taken legal responsibility for all use of my account. My computer would be carted away for examination if anything untoward was traced to my ISP. But I'm in Australia, so this may not be the case there, but it probably is.
  4. Sinusitis - inflammation of the lining of the sinuses - can occur after a bad cold. This is easily treated with antibiotics. My son had constant congestion and sleep apnea when he was young and required tonsils and adenoids out. Pam.
  5. I think that we will go ahead with this. We are in Austalia, so our summer trips are over Christmas/new year, but the mission would probably be quite valuable to them. Pam.
  6. Is anyone familiar with Teen Missions International? I have been thinking that this might be a good experience for my teen boys. Have your experiences been good overall, would you recommend it? Thanks, Pam.
  7. Has anyone used this or any other online bookmark organiser? I would really like to organise everything according to school subject and other categories, and preferably be able to insert bookmarks into more than one category. Boomark Tracker is free, but I wonder whether there is any down side to using this. Thanks, Pam.
  8. These have been posted before, and are what I will be using: Module 1/ TC Lectures 1-6 Module 2 Module 3 Module 4 Module 5 Module 6/TC Lectures 7-16 Module 7 Module 8 Module 9 Module 10/TC Lectures 27-29 And TC Lectures 17-19 Module 11/TC Lecture 30 Module 12 Module 13 Module 14 Module 15/TC Lectures 20-26 Module 16'' HTH, Pam.
  9. Could someone please link me to a lab report proforma for chemistry. I would really like something on a college level as we may need to save the reports for an admissions process. Thank you, Pam.
  10. On 01/18/09 brendafromtenn posted a correlated schedule of Apologia and Teaching Co Chemistry. She got this from someone else, as she explains, but unfortunately, I don't know how to link to another post (or how to quote apparently), so: (Quote) got a schedule right here on the good ol' WTM board. "Tina in Ouray" posted this. I think she may have gotten it from "Susie-Knits"....Or the other way around, but either way, I printed it out and it has worked great. Here is what we used: Module 1/ TC Lectures 1-6 Module 2 Module 3 Module 4 Module 5 Module 6/TC Lectures 7-16 Module 7 Module 8 Module 9 Module 10/TC Lectures 27-29 And TC Lectures 17-19 Module 11/TC Lecture 30 Module 12 Module 13 Module 14 Module 15/TC Lectures 20-26 Module 16 Sorry about my lack of technical skills. Pam.
  11. I think that really, if you have big pigs, you need to treat them as livestock rather than as pets. If you have only one pig, it would probably bond with you, and so be more responsive. But since you have a few, it will be more difficult to have them 'obey' you, and just go back into their stall. You might actually have to apply the stick (or a length of garden hose). Honestly though, a pig is highly amenable to food-based bribery. Try feeding them after mucking out the stall, rather than before. That way they will go straight back in for their food (or maybe some other food, such as some apple). Good luck, Pam.
  12. all you need to do is feed them from a bucket, always the same bucket, and make the same kind of noise when calling them to be fed. My father always called ' Pig, pig, pig, pig' loudly when he started feeding them. Pretty soon you will have pigs that come running whenever you call ' Pig, pig, pig, pig', or whenever you show up with the bucket. They will follow that bucket anywhere. Just make sure that they also learn some manners while young and small. Dont let them bowl you over. You may need a stick or something to reinforce the lesson. You wont need to bash them, just wave it and make a noise. Soon enough either the stick or the noise will remind them to keep a bit of distance between them and you, while following the bucket. Pam.
  13. It does seem quite doable without even purchasing all the materials, it is all available online. Not so from the Australian site. Thanks, Pam.
  14. A co-op does sound like it would be the way people would go. What a pity. Pam.
  15. Could someone please tell me how this works. I looked on their website, but can't make out what I actually need to buy - the classroom materials, teacher edition etc, or is it available online. Does anyone know the cost involved? In Australia the only option seems to be for registered schools, with required attendence at conferences etc. Not homeschool friendly at all. Thanks for any help, Pam.
  16. the wax from around edam or gouda cheese. Just break off a chunk, mould it into an appropriate size under hot water and push onto the braces. It sticks quite well, is readily available from the local deli/supermarket, and wet mouth doesn't matter at all. Pam.
  17. My son's speech therapist asked "how will he learn how to cook?". I don't think it occurred to her that people can learn how to cook outside home ec classes, in their very own fully equipped kitchens.
  18. If you arrive with a fever or slightly elevated temperature (you will pass through a scanner at the airport) you will be sent into quarantine, as the US is a swine flu country. Malaysia is still actively trying to prevent spread to the country, as Australians have been automatically quarantined on arrival with an elevated temperature until such time as swine flu infection is proven negative. Good luck with your move and new career, and remember that Australia is just a short trip and small airfare trip away.
  19. She wrote recipes for decades in women's magazines, and still occasionally pops up here and there. She did a lot of articles, recipes and cookbooks for beginners, teaching new techniques for non-British food, introducing 'foreign' food to Australians as immigration and international exchange stepped up. She's elderly now, but still writes and appears. She was definitely one for teaching technique and skill, not just recipes.
  20. I got this very same job offer a few weeks ago. You can be sure I knew there was something fishy straight away. Not too many US admin asst jobs would go to an Australian in Australia. I would just love a work-from-home job for US$52,000!
  21. I found the cafeteria food beyond my budget over a long period, so I had a fruit basket in the room (which my bro also ate from as he recovered). Some snack bars etc might be handy. Some individual coffee mixes and mug as I couldn't leave the room much (kept trying to get out of bed, not knowing he couldn't stand/walk,so he was tightly restrained when I wasn't there). I took in a book I knew he would have read before and read aloud to him, starting when he was comatose. I don't know at what point he became aware of what I was reading, but he definitely was hearing me at a point when I thought he was still completely out of it. Some hand/foot creme. An ipod/ book for yourself I provided sensory stimulation items for my brother (a feely ball, sprayed with his wife's perfume etc) Some paracetemol for yourself (over a long period, you never know) This is all I can think of for now. I'm sorry you are going through this, Pam.
