  1. Are you talking about this book? https://www.rainbowresource.com/proddtl.php?id=026161 Or is this one the one I need? https://www.rainbowresource.com/proddtl.php?id=040164
  2. Could you just do a Non-operation registration for those 4-5 months? I am not sure what state you live in but you can do a non-operation registration here and not pay insurance. Then you could keep the truck and it will just sit and wait for it to be used again and go back to operation registration. Especially if your husband needs the truck for work it could just sit there and not cost you anything and then you won't have to try and purchase a new truck in 4-6 months. Also, there is no way that our vehicles cost $8k a year and we live in an expensive registration/insurance state. Ours didn't even cost $8k when we bought them! Well, this year we bought our 12 passenger van to hold all the kids- purchasing it cost $4,500 and it needed a new battery and it will need tires. So with the cost of it, plus battery and tires, plus registration and purchase tax and insurance we might spend $8k. We buy used cars and take good care of them- well my husband does. Most of the time if something breaks he can fix it himself. Does that include all the gas for driving too? Because maybe then we would spend $8k for both in a normal year but I don't think even then.
  3. Wow, thanks so much everyone. My kids got sick and I sort of lost track of this thread. You have given me lots of great options and I am so grateful! I think a break with something else will just refresh and inspire him more. A few of these we have already done- some Zacarro book and the a MOEMS book. But both of these have more than I thought. I actually have Hands on Equations so we will start with that but I will be taking a closer look at all these and purchasing some. Patty Paper Geometry was on my wish list and I would love to know what other books of his you all like. Thank you!
  4. How about one of the pretty Dansko shoes?
  5. Time in nature Watercolor painting nature- I pick up things or take pictures of things when I walk and then paint them Reading- I always have five categories (one book picked to fit each category- Theology, Nature/Science, History, Biography, Home/Family) going at once and then I try to read from each category each week At Home Spa time- bubble bath, mani/pedi, body scrub, lotion, mask, hair mask, whatever I am in the mood for
  6. I would really appreciate some advice with math. My oldest is 9 and we are about 3/4 the way through AOPS Pre-A. He is doing fine with it but math is becoming much more of a slog instead of his joy. Maybe it is that Spring is here or we have moved and he is having a hard time adjusting. Anyway, this has never happened before so I thought I would try and change to something different and we could come back to finish the rest of AOPS later. So does anyone have any suggestions for something that would be a refreshing change but not so easy it would bore him to death? I would appreciate the help so much!
  7. As far as food waste, are there people in your congregation who would appreciate the leftovers? When we plan church food items, we have people already planned for any leftovers and they are usually so grateful. Right now we have a widow with two children, an older couple with a very limited income, a family with lots of children and husband is out of work, etc. Someone who planned or was involved with the event just divides and brings whatever leftovers to whoever needs it. It is done quietly, usually by a deacon, so not to embarrass anyone and helps them a lot when funds are tight.
  8. This isn't specific to African Americans but my kids have really dry sensitive skin. The CeraVe Moisturizing Cream has been amazing for my daughter's eczema too. Here is what is looks like but you can buy it anywhere: https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Moisturizing-Cream-Daily-Moisturizer/dp/B001V9SXXU/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1517597453&sr=1-4&keywords=cerave&th=1
  9. Sigh...I hate taxes Still waiting on forms to come in the mail
  10. You need machine washable wool. There are lots of different kinds but here are the ones I have used and loved: Cascade Superwash Merino- machine wash cold and dried on low Madeline Tosh- I love this yarn so much and it can be Machine washed on cold and laid flat to dry Rowan Super Fine Merino- Machine Wash Warm, dry flat A lot of Yarn stores (Webs, Knit Picks, Jimmy Beans, Love Knitting) have a category that you can select and see all their yarns that can be machine washed. For synthetics, I like Sirdar baby yarn but wool is my favorite. Extra fine merino is so soft and warm and is breathable.
  11. I used to love Goodwill and shopped there all the time. Then a few years ago they started pricing by brand and enormously marked up all their items. Now their prices are more expensive than brand new things at TJMaxx or sale prices at Macys or something. I could even get some things at Nordstroms cheaper than at Goodwill.Their books used to be $1.99 and now they vary in price but are more than they should be. It is insane! Plus it really harms those who really need to shop there. People with lower incomes really needed those stores to be able to live. Thankfully, we still have some thrift stores run by churches or health organizations that have really great prices and are clean and nice. One is even run by a lady with impeccable taste and she displays the store beautifully. She makes outfits and displays them and arranges everything in such a pretty fashion. I love shopping there!
  12. I have a kids knife made by Kai that we have used for a couple of years now and just love. This knife looks wonderful and a perfect knife for when your good ones need to be hidden. Thanks Bill! :)
  13. I actually have tried all three of the Avalon Organics lotion as I have been using it for years. The peppermint was my least favorite just because I got tired of smelling like peppermint. But it is a really nice smell. The lavender one is also a really nice scent and I used that one quite a lot. I do like the Aloe best though because it is unscented and I can use it and still wear perfume or burn candles and not feel overwhelmed with all the scents. I tried "The Ordinary" products this year because I also have been trying to take good care of my skin this past year but don't want to spend a ton. I have been having trouble with my face being super dry and scaly and insanely itchy with weird rashes flaring up every once in a while plus random breakouts. At the beginning of last year, I found a deal for Estee Lauder products and use those which helped a ton. Then three months ago I decided to try TO as they are much cheaper and people seemed to like them. Anyway, I used this blog post and this one and TO regimen guide to decide what to purchase. Here is what I purchased: Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% “Buffet†I really liked all of them except the Niacinamide 10% as it just seems to break out my skin and doesn't do anything. I have been using the hyaluronic, buffet, and oil at night and the Vit C and different brand moisturizer with SPF for the day. I didn't see this stuff on their website when I purchased otherwise I probably would have tried that first and not purchased the hyaluronic, oil, and buffet. I really love the Vitamin C as it is gentle enough for my skin but still works. I might step that up to a stronger formulation later. Finally, I would have purchased one of the retinols and maybe the glycolic acid too but I am nursing right now so I can't. I hope this helps some! I have been really impressed with TO as it has made my skin beautiful, it is a reasonable price, and it seems like it will last a long time. My skin is the happiest it has ever been and glows. I have used TO daily for 3 months now and I still have more than 3/4 left. A little goes a long way and I am really pleased. P.S. Thanks for the chocolate! My last note, I see that they are having their NMF plus sunscreen coming soon so I am really excited to try that. Plus my stuff came faster than they said it would. Additionally, they sent me an email saying Sephora now sells their stuff.
  14. Here is my list: Kitchen: I cook a ton and these are my hard working tools that I love and not everyone might have: - Three high quality knives: I have Wustof and Henkels and they are amazing. These three knives are all I have and they work wonderfully. I have a chefs knife and paring knife (this set) plus a bread knife. - A dough scraper with wood handle- I had the most wonderful dough scraper and I used it for so many things. When we were selling our last house, we had an open house and someone stole my dough scraper. I know because I used it that morning and washed it by hand and put it in the specific spot it goes in in my drawer. It was so special to me because my grandfather gave it to me. When I got home and saw it was gone I was so sad. Seriously, who comes to a open house and steals a dough scraper? Anyway, you all need one. Speaking of which I need to buy a replacement for the stolen one. - Heavy mixing bowls- I have a vintage one and am now thinking about a big Mason Cash one. I have a Kitchenaid mixer and use it pretty much everyday but I use these bowls all the time too. - Silpats - Cookie scoop and muffin scoop- This makes whipping out a batch of something so much faster Cleaning: - German cleaning tools- soooo amazing! - Miele vacuum- you all recommended it and we saved up and I love it so much! It is so pricey but it has really helped. Sleep: - Down pillows, feather bed, and comforter from Pacific Coast Feather Beauty: - I was having trouble with my skin and tried "The Ordinary" products for the last couple of months and they have helped so much and the price is nice! - Avalon Organics lotion cured my eczema ETA: I thought of another one- dried herbs from San Francisco Herb Co. Much cheaper than the store and so incredibly fresh and nice.
  15. This one is not a diffuser but it is really quiet and puts out a lot of water without mess. It is also easy to clean. https://www.amazon.com/TaoTronics-Ultrasonic-Humidifiers-Humidifier-Rotatable/dp/B01JYJT1E8/ref=sr_1_5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1516123296&sr=1-5&keywords=taotronics+humidifiers
  16. Boden has a lot of classy items with fun prints. They always have good sales and their clearance section is great so that is when I purchase.
  17. When the nurse at my peds office asked my four year old daughter last month what a plus sign was, she stared at it for a long time and then finally said "39". She also said that the circle was a plate. When my now 9 year old son was asked about the alphabet he was aghast when they asked him and said "I don't know that language" in a loud voice. And then... then they asked him about the alphabet song, to which my boy replied that he had never heard that song. Boy howdy, you should have seen the shocked and condescending looks in my direction from both the nurses and another parent nearby. I lamely tried to explain that I teach the alphabet phonetically first and that he could actually read chapter books but that fell on deaf ears. I called my husband in the parking lot and sobbed about how I was failing our children. My husband thought it was funny.

  19. I read this thread earlier and definately want to join in. We are most likely going to be moving again so I need to clean through and declutter everything. ETA: My goals for this week - Finish Christmas takedown and put regular pretty things back- almost done! - Declutter library - Declutter kids toys
  20. To be honest, I am jealous. I love winter and cold. Today was 70 and my neighbors were mowing their lawns. I was contemplating pruning my roses. I miss actual seasons so much- this year Christmas didn't feel like Christmas.
  21. Someone here posted about this before Thanksgiving because of their sale. I can't seem to find the thread. Thank you so much whoever you are! Anyway, I bought his Secrets to Drawing class at the Black Friday sale and we have done 6 lessons. My three boys have been opposed to art due to some bad experiences. I thought we would try this. Well, it has been great! We have all learned a lot so far and more importantly it has brought the joy of art back into our house. My boys have been drawing a lot. He is really clear in his explanations and you can clearly see what he means. My own drawing has improved a lot. I have nothing to do with their website or business but really loved it and thought others might too. I just got an email saying he is having a Holiday sale of 30% off so I thought I would share here. https://thevirtualinstructor.com/members/?s2-ssl=yes

  23. I purchased a baby ergo from Pottery Barn Kids this year. They have a hanging high chair that fits on the table and other stuff. What about a diaper bag set? This website always has beautiful dolls and I look there for ideas and brand names. http://www.petalinadolls.co.uk/ What about paper dolls? There are some beautiful ones out there, especially by Dover. I like the Jane Austen ones.
  24. This is the best pencil sharpener ever!
  25. Amazon has been amazing! There was a seller on Amazon called "Really Great Toys" that was so helpful when my little girls baby doll started falling apart within a week. They sent me a different doll and refunded my extra money. Ann Taylor also has great customer service.
