  1. You are totally awesome!! Not sure how I missed that b/c I think I went to that site. Thank you so much!!!!
  2. I had a friend like that who continuously added drama to her life which already had enough drama through no fault of her own. And I heard all the details. Like you, I started to feel drained. Though you didn't mention in your post where you stand spiritually, I can only tell you how I handled it. I prayed for God to release me from the friendship, to bring people into her life that could help her and take my place as a sounding board. Soon the friendship on that level died a "natural" death, so to speak, with no drama. We are still friends and I would still do anything for her, but my load is a lot lighter. Hope that helps!
  3. I downloaded/printed a classical reading list for grades 1-6 several years ago. I guess after I printed it, I deleted the file b/c I can't find it. I also can't find it online. It has "Logos Elementary Literature List", "2005-2006", "Logos Elementary School", and "Curriculum Guide" on it. I know about the 1000 good books list. But I really like this list and would like a less tattered copy. Anyone know where I could find another copy? Thanks!!!
  4. Thank you! I knew that forum existed but I couldn't find it again.
  5. Well, it finally happened. I used to be pretty good in math but my daughter is better. She is doing Singapore Intensive Math 6A and I can't help her anymore. Does anyone know of a site or book that gives instruction on how to work the problems. The workbook has the answers in the back but not instructions. If I can't find anything, I will have to get her a tutor. Thanks!
  6. Bill, I don't want to this to turn into an ugly discussion. But, at the risk of further inflaming you, Christians do believe it is Truth. That is our premise. Getting irate b/c a Christian publisher uses Christian premises is like getting mad at a Muslim for believing in the pillars of Islam or at a Christian for believing in Jesus. Aside all that, my point is logic is a method of thinking, regardless of the premise. This debate on Christian logic curriculum being fake logic books is off-base. That said, Bill, I wish you the best luck on finding a logic programs that meets the needs of you and your family.
  7. There is a difference between philosophy/reason and logic. You want proof and you can't and won't get that from a logic curriculum. Like I said, logic is a method of thinking. You can use logic on any premise. Now how you get the premise, that's philosophy/reason.
  8. I was discussing the controversial part of this thread with my husband. He made the point that logic is a method of thinking. You can start with almost any premise. Debates use logic and when you are on a debate team, you have to logically support the premise given to you, regardless of your beliefs. So Christian logic books have not hijacked logic textbooks; they just start with a different premise than you.
  9. I know in WTM this is suppose to be easy but I am clueless. Where can I find a pronunciation guide for the pharaohs' names? Thanks!
  10. I had read that same article on MSNBC.com and had to laugh. They NEVER have articles on home schooling and the one time they mention parents teaching their kids, the parents are doing it wrong. LOL! I'm also a bit confused about new math vs. old math. My understanding is in the new math, it does not matter how they reach the answer as long as it is correct. Or, if their methodology was correct but got the wrong answer, that is okay too. We use Singapore math. Both my girls are very different learners and it works for both. Singapore teaches more mental math than I remember doing but it still teaches doing two or more digit division the long way. We are doing multiplication at the moment in 2B and my 10 dd is finishing up 4B.
  11. If you child is interested in science and history, by all means, do some during the week. No, it is not that important for first grade but feed that curiosity. As for the others, have a core that you do every day/week and work in the other stuff as the week goes on. Some weeks you may not touch it and that's ok.
  12. I looked at a bunch of different programs and settled on GWG b/c it was straightforward grammar. It has diagramming and a lot of review.
  13. Personally, I would get your child tested, just be aware of possible agendas like previously suggested. Our ds had about 15 words by the time he was two and made sounds for the things like drink. I asked our doctor several times about his lack of speech and was told not to worry about. Then a good friend who is also a speech therapist babysat for me. She said he needed to be evaluated and that she didn't think it was something he would outgrow. We had him evaluated and he got a great therapist who really got the ball rolling. We did therapy three times a week until our insurance ran out. Our insurance would only cover till he was three b/c the school system did it for free when they turned three. We went thru the school system but the excellent therapy he had already received it what got him going. Now he talks our ears off. He still has some pronunciation issues but once I saw how the therapist worked, I could do it at home. Now he did not have a serious issue. He just learned to talk with his mouth closed. We had to retrain his tongue to form words. As for agendas, the school system wanted him to continue another year but they only would see him for 30 minutes twice a week and there was always a possibility of other children joining us. Not worth the time and effort to get all of the kids there.
