  1. I did "train" my cat for that. He got booted off the bed any time he came too close like that when I am sleeping and he learned to sleep on the end of the bed until I wake up when he gets in my face and starts purring.
  2. We used WeDo for a Lego club and they are very easy to put together. I would not buy them myself especially for an older child.
  3. OMG this is totally scaring me. We have been hit hard enough with two medical issues one of mine which quickly got us up to the OOP Max and one of my ds's which is not even covered and now they are saying it might take longer for him. If it ends up worse then the max I have no idea what we will do. :( the OOP Max was bad enough.
  4. I planned on doing a light summer but stopped all together due to vision therapy. Ds really disliked it and he had nothing left for other type of work. We started back and he is much more resistant then last school year. I am not having him do much writing and was scribing. I guess I did not think of the brain working that much harder. He also seems to have less interests lately. I wonder if that could be due to a tired brain from the VT. My two younger ones were born really fast. I did not even need to push with them. They did have retained reflexes.
  5. Well it came and we used it about a week so far. She is taking a while to get the whole hand gesture thing and does not really like it. I had to explain many times to watch and what each gesture means. It is slow going so far and I needed all the extra practice so far. We have not even gotten through the 1st lesson yet. If this is hard and frustrating I guess she really needs it. Good thing she is at least kicking butt in math and picked up where we left off there despite a long break.
  6. The only sources I am seeing for a demographic winter are very religious. Declining fertiliy rates are not a huge problem when we have been growing at such an unprecendented rate in recent history. Sure there are some kinks to work out with social security and what not but we do not need rates to keep going up. People are choosing to have less children which is fine. Infertility rates are actually on the decline.
  7. I would love more children. When I was a kid I always pictured myself with a large family. I briefly reconsidered that after nannying but once having kids it returned. I am not having more because I do not have a strong marriage and dh does not want anymore. If I had a really strong marriage with a dh that wanted more I would have had more in a heartbeat. I definitely have times where I long for more. I would love some more personalities and younger ones in the bunch. It makes me a little sad to never get to experience it all again as each stage passes.
  8. It makes no sense for a Christian health share to not cover births out of wedlock. Everyone sins in some way. I thought they value all life no matter the circumstances. If they do not cover births then that is why people would turn to abortion because they cannot afford the health costs. Once someone is pregnant it is too late to go back with preventative measures. If birth was covered people are much less likely to chose abortion. Abortion is lower in countries with a good social safety net. Health care costs are the biggest costs related to having a child. If you do not want people to chose abortion then cover their pregnancy no matter what. It makes no sense to say it is wrong to end a pregnancy but then provide no help so they can continue said pregnancy but provide that care to others.
  9. I only read the first couple of resoponses but the list in the OP is not poison. It contains fruits and vegetables! How is that not healthy? All those snacks are snacks I allow my kids to have. The things they listed actually have a small ingredient list and no added dyes, preservatives or flavors. I am ok with a little bit of sugar sometimes. It does not even effect my kids behavior like the aforementioned added ingredients. It makes sense they do not allow nuts because when kids have those allergies it is life threatening. I do not think you need meat for snacks and jerky is very expensive. Paleo is just one nutrition theory and not the end all be all and different people come from very different regions and do differently in different types of diets.
  10. She is reading well for her age now. Those are not bad books and they are long and at a higher reading level. If you want to expand or do classics then read those books aloud.
  11. I have used Gattegno as a supplement and I think it is similar to Miquon just in a different format with a little bit more instruction. I do think it goes a little farther so it would be hard to know where to start with it after doing all of Miquon. I do wish Miquon went farther because I like the format of how you can follow a thread or work through a book. Gattegno is available on Amazon cheaply if you want a print version and even the whole thing is available online for free. After using all of Miquon though that is a good foundation with discovery aspect and the rods if you wanted to just use the rods with curriculum. I have been using the rods along with Signapore using Education Unboxed to watch how to introduce concepts. I plan on doing the same with MEP for another child.
  12. 4H Swimming Scouts start your own First Lego League Choir Rocket club Drama Start a park day or a gym day
  13. You guys are right about the videos! I just started watching them and they are very dull and there are so many of them to watch. I am not sure who I can practice on.
  14. I have a lot of early childhood memories. My youngest memory is when I was still 1 and I have a few from age 2 too. From 3 on I have decent memories with a few holes that were not really associated with anything bad. Some blend together and I am not sure of exact ages and others I know the age I was. I have less memories of high school especially related to time in school. I remember my elementary school teachers better then my high school teachers. High school was really rough for me.
  15. I finally got my curriculum approved and ordered. Barton level 1 and 2 is on its way and I will be starting it with my 1st grader. I got videos to watch in an email in the mean time. Do you have any advice about using it? I have a feeling this will be a learning curve for both of us and may be a little frustrating at first.
  16. Yea Saxon did not work for that profile over here. It was the worse fit ever. I am finding more success with Signapore and using Education Unboxed and C-rods to explain concepts. I think scribing for some of the math helps or writing the problems on a white board bigger with more space when they do write or using graph paper with 1cm cubes.
  17. Most states had specifically mentioned seceding because they believed in slavery and the superiority of the white race as the main reason in their articles of sucession. The war very much was about slavery. Slavery would not have ended shortly after seceding if they were left alone. It was far from being phased out and was at its peak. The southern states did not go through the proper process for leaving the union. The War of Northern Agression is not a term that is true and it is adopted by people that are racist. War atrocities are not cool and should be condemned but they happen in all wars on all sides.
  18. I thought I came to a complete stop once when I got a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign. I went to court but still got the ticket and now I have something that shows up in my states online court system. If I known that I would have just paid the ticket.
  19. Where I live it does take a few weeks unfortunately. I tried the small item trick before but it did not work. They still sent it media mail. I can only order curriculum this time anyway. I thinks it is worth the small charge for all the items I am ordering to get here in about a week.
  20. Ok it looks like I can pay for priority through rainbow resources and the order will get here sooner so I will do that.
  21. I can finally order my curriculum but now I need it in a week. I would normally request my order be placed with Rainbow Resources but I cannot wait weeks for my math curriculum order. I need to order Math in Focus. I was thinking of either ordering through Rainbow Resources or through Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Where can I order it with decent shipping times and cost. I will be placing other orders through RR but those I can wait longer.
  22. I think it is good for a community to have a variety of education options with a good homeschooling community. I think it is a positive thing when an area has lots of options for groups and activities for those that homeschool. I also think it is positive when an area has an option that is not required where you can get some of the state money for education for homeschooling. That helps people with a lower income able to afford curriculum and extra curricular activities. It also helps the businesses that get their business. There are activities through private businesses and parks and recreation that are during the day for homeschoolers. I think it is mainly a positive for the families with school age children who would consider homeschooling in the community.
  23. I will not be. It is not in my nature at all to do that. It was only a brief thought.
  24. She really is making lots of money right now. She is the only one I know though who is and it is very common to have a mlm business.
  25. I have a friend that seems to be really successful and making a lot of money at the moment with this newly formed hair products mlm. She has a lot of friends and it is a new product that works well and is expensive. Seeing her earn so much and needing money has made me briefly consider it. I know way less people and hate being pushy or making my social media all about something I sell and know I could not do as well as her. I think it will die down over time because there are only so many people who can regularly buy shampoo that is so expensive. It makes sense that the first people who get in can make a lot but then once more people sign up and they are on the bottom they will not earn much. I think over time though even the people who found success may not do as well. 99% is a very small number who have success. It is sad to read about the people who started selling less with lularoe and everyone encouraged them to buy more inventory because that is how they earn money and then they got themselves into a bad situation.
