  1. If you can get a hold of a very recent People magazine, there's a delicious looking recipe for Grilled Peach & Tomato Panzanella salad. It had grilled zucchini in it. I googled but can't find that exact recipe. I saw it while getting my hair done and took a pic but don't know how to attach it. It may have been the latest one out, there was an article about Taylor Swift's trial. The recipe looked soooo yummy!
  2. So.Am.I. I had the exact same thought yesterday. We don't have glasses. They are sold out the minute they get them in anywhere. I have to work and still trying to figure out where my kids are going so they don't stand outside to see it and end up blind. One of my kids may be going with scouts, but I am predicting they will be stuck in a traffic jam on the way home and will miss middle school supply drop off night, and the chance to meet teachers, try out his locker, etc. We are very near the path of totality. Ugh!!!!
  3. For the most part, I mix and match. I really like Estee Lauder's cleansers and cremes for my finicky and sensitive skin. They give very generous samples with purchase, if you go to a department store. I am a huge Ulta fan, but unfortunately they don't carry the entire line yet, nor give out big samples. I also like Double Wear foundation for my really oily skin, but I do experiment with others all the time. My favorite mascara and pressed powder is from Lorac. NYX is also nice brand to try something new (lipliners, lipsticks, eyeliners, etc). It's inexpensive, so I don't feel bad trying something outside my comfort zone. I love Ulta because I can return anything I don't like. They have never given me any trouble with returns. Their rewards points add up quickly and they occasionally have coupons (I got a rare 20% off total purchase the other day!)
  4. I used to keep it under my pillow until I apparently hit a button and called my mom in the middle of the night. All she could hear was my snoring. Now it stays on my nightstand.
  5. Not sure if this is considered fluff or not but.... Ds enjoys Mike Lupica sports fiction. Dd just had me order The Descendants series set. She's an avid reader including classics and is enjoying them for a fun read.
  6. The Scentsy wall plug in warmers rotate for this issue. I do like and use Scentsy, however, certain scents give Ds a headache so have not been using them much anymore. Another Ds has an occasional night time cough, so I've been avoiding them near their room for this reason as well. When you mention it in the classroom, Dd's 5th grade teacher used a Scentsy and while it always smelled so good in her room, that was the worst year for Dd's migraines. In fact, she got sick IN the class room shortly after one migraine started. I am now wondering if that was the trigger? The grocery store plug ins and even the Bath and Body Works type are too strong for me, even as much as I love scented products like that. Maybe there's a more natural way to freshen the room?
  7. I think you are fine until Monday. We've done this before and had to wait a few days, but they got us in right away when they opened. Just be very careful and continue the wax. You could try the phone number to see if there's an after hours line, but really I think it's fine.
  8. My first thought with anxiety and abnormal heart rhythm symptoms is mitral valve prolapse. It can cause anxiety. I think you are on the right track with a cardiology appointment! Can you see if you can get in sooner perhaps?
  9. It's the standard cloud pillow...just checked the BB&B website because I tossed the box. When I checked the pillow itself it says 100% polystyrene foam beads. Definitely not buckwheat. After I got it, I was reading reviews on Amazon out of curiosity....several reviews mentioned a bad odor, but mine does not have that at all. Maybe the received knock offs? Or perhaps it was the buckwheat type? Hope that helps!
  10. I am in constant search for the perfect pillow. I tend to wake up with a sore neck with the wrong one. A few months ago, I had such a severe strain I couldn't even sit up and ended up going to PT a few days later...it was horrible. I just bought a Sobakawa pillow at Bed Bath & Beyond. It's exactly what I needed, something small but firm for neck support. I do have a memory foam as well (Costco), which I keep behind my head though I don't really lay on it, more up against it. Anyway, I am really liking the Sobakawa so far! And it was cheap! Only $20. The beads can be a little loud as you get settled in, but I don't notice them at all the rest of the night.
  11. Commenting on clothing, hygiene and appearance is done for adults as part of assessing cognition and emotional well being. It's very normal to document that during medical exams, especially for the elderly. Appearing disheveled or not dressing appropriately for the weather can signal conditions such as dementia, stroke, depression or perhaps neglect. For example, if someone wore pajamas to a wellness exam, it could be a red flag for depression. If the appearance were abnormal, documentation can help back up particular diagnoses or further testing. In family practice it's usually just a brief statement especially if appearance is "normal".
  12. You may want to check on the Advil with the surgeon. Where I work, we have patients hold all NSAID's for 1 week to decrease the risk of bleeding. Some surgeons may be okay with this, but in general, we hold them. Tylenol (I know, not as effective for swelling) is fine.
  13. Actually they do. Our district is on the failure list and is on probation. If no increase in testing scores, they could cut all funding, fire administration and take over. I am not sure what the parameters are.
  14. I would give them a small decorative item, maybe something referencing dogs? A gift card is a good idea too, but would likely be used then the gift would be quickly forgotten about. I like the PP's gift basket idea too!
  15. This happens to my mom pretty frequently. My guess is the preservatives in the salad, or her gallbladder. She makes everything from scratch at home, so I wonder if her body is just not accustomed to processed food and preservatives.
  16. Yes, a general surgeon would fix it, but a GI specialist may help you treat it conservatively. I'm not sure that I would rush into bowel surgery though, that's not generally a small procedure. Just my opinion though.
  17. Totally agree. I am not understanding all of the chiropractor suggestions when we are talking about 1) a child (presumed) 2) An obvious protrusion of the spine 3) pain 4) decreased range of motion. 5) No actual diagnosis or imaging thus far OP, please go to a physician for recommendation. I would be concerned with missing something serious that needed timely intervention.
  18. If you don't know what it is, please do not go to the chiropractor. Either start with the primary care doctor or go to straight to a pediatric orthopedic spine specialist. Pain and limited range of motion is not normal.
  19. I've had mine for about 3 months. Very, very happy with it. The clothes are CLEAN and smell clean. As far as the new regulations, as a previous poster explained, it's just an added eco-wash cycle with cold/minimal water. I have not used it. The only thing I regret is not getting the electronic version. From what I understand the warranty is a bit longer on it due to the electric panel. I do miss being able to use the timer/preset feature. I used that all the time on my old one. In other words, get the load ready and have it start whenever you wish so clothes aren't sitting wet for hours. I also don't think that my model is very gentle on delicate cycle, not sure if there's an even gentler cycle with the other version or not. I would also have liked an extra spin cycle feature because the clothes aren't spun out as damp as my previous machine. Overall, love it!!
  20. I only ordered once and the shirt I received was a child size, versus a women's sizing despite the tag. It was in no way going to fit DD. It was a Christmas gift, so I called around that time and too late to send a replacement. They apologized profusely and refunded with no questions asked. The told me to give it to someone who would enjoy it. I was very happy with their handling of the situation, so would probably try them again. My sister orders from there frequently and, for the most part, has been very happy with what she has received. Yes, it does take a very long time in shipping so she plans ahead toward the next season. She has gotten some really cute long tunic type tops that she wears with leggings and boots for very reasonable prices.
  21. DH and I are both medical providers. We both grew up fairly poor with very hard working sets of parents. My parents, my mom especially, instilled in me a belief that I was capable of anything I set my mind to. She was my biggest cheer leader during my medical education. I don't ever remember her comparing our situation to anyone else's, so I didn't grow up feeling defeated before I even began. Neither of our parents paid for our college education. My mom helped a little financially, but the most support came from feeding me when I was a college student. We both paid off our loans ourselves. DH and I could help paying for our children's college, but we don't plan to, other than the required parent portion of student loans these days. They will be responsible for their own, just as we were. All that being said, I don't get jealous or bitter over someone's situation in which they were born into wealth, and we know a few people similar to your example. What I do really struggle with as of late, are character traits and cliques among my acquaintances that sometimes are associated with wealth (or wanting to appear wealthy).
  22. This happened a few years ago. I ended up calling the police because the girl was so pushy, had a hard time accepting no and wanted to know which neighbors had kids and what time they would be home. She even asked what kind of vehicles they drove and mentioned exact color/make/models that she noted were coming and going in the neighborhood. It gave me the overall feeling they were casing the neighborhood.
  23. Read to him (if he wishes), run errands if you are able, take the kids on an outings (movie, museum), borrow their kitchen and make them a meal, frame a picture of your parents/family to keep in his room along with flowers. Do as much as you can in that short time to show them love in other ways since you won't be spending a lot of time with him. When my aunt was dying, we made necklaces from her fingerprint and they turned out beautifully. Perhaps you can either give a kit to his wife for later, or if he agrees, make them while you see him. Hugs!!
  24. I'm in the same boat. When I get in these ruts, I need inspiration. Cooking shows, Pinterest and even the cooking segments on QVC (totally cheesy, I know) help spur new ideas.
  25. Wow! Didn't realize that. In our district I believe only the Kindergarten and 7th grade check up is required, outside of sports anyway. Regardless, it should be done every year.
