    NM--figured it out!
  2. Thanks everyone. I think that level 4 looks too light, especially the reading and writing. I wish I could see level 5. I'd like to decide and stop thinking about it!
  3. Thanks for your input. Yes, it was the grammar that placed him in level (grade?? Please, let's say levels!) 4. TG&TB just appeals to me because it is so open-and-go, and I am tired! :) But I see your point. I think what I really need is a spiral grammar for this kid.
  4. I'm using level 2 for sure next year for my 8 year old, and I like the looks of it for my 11 year old, but he placed in level 4. We have been using Climbing to Good English and Spelling Workout (5th grade levels) this year, but he is really retaining nothing. I think he would really like this this curriculum, but I'm worried about it being way too light for a 6th grader. Can anyone comment on level 4, what age you are using this level for and if you supplement. Thanks!
  5. Here's what I'm thinking now Math: CLE 5/6 (we should be about halfway through CLE6 by the end of next year--recovering from some bad math experiences :)) Writing: WTM-style logic stage writing plus Write On OR WWS1 starting in Jan OR IEW SWI-B. I'm leaning toward the first option Spelling: Spelling Workout F Cursive: Pentime Typing : Finish Dancemat and then ??? History: Finish Mom-made study of American history through the Great Depression and then SOTW1 (audio) plus Usborne Enc for note-taking and timeline and MP's Famous Men of Rome for outlining and summaries. Science: Bi-monthly time with Dad studying electronics and simple machines plus either EM daily science with Bill Nye videos and library books OR SCM insect study. Literature: 1-1.5 hrs per day to read. He will be assigned 6 classics and 3 titles from ancient history. He's also reading his way through the entire American Adventure series. Logic: Building Thinking Skills
  6. Hi! My 8.5 yr old is finally getting an evaluation. I met with the psychologist today and gave her an extensive history and explained our concerns. Dd is going to be screened for ASD, ADD, OCD, and learning disabilities. She will go in for three 2 hour sessions over a period of a few weeks. I know the testing for LDs will involve IQ and Achievement tests, and I know I'll have many questionnaires to fill out ,but I was wondering about the details of the other assessments. She mentioned doing some play-based assessments for ASD... I'd love to here specifics from those who have been through this! Thanks!
  7. I am the OP. We actually ended up not using it, but perhaps we should have! We got half way through CLE 1st grade and she got completely overwhelmed (granted, we are in the process of getting her evaluated, so there may be some learning disabilities here). Good luck to you!
  8. OP here. So, all of my bloodwork (thyroid, cbc, liver function) came back normal except my ferritin is still on the low side (38) and my total iron and % iron saturation are not optimal (according to the STTM website). My dr. said I should continue to take my prenatal (which has 27 mg of iron it it) and I could take up to 50 mg of iron 3 days a week. He isn't so sure the iron levels have anything to do with my low energy since my hemoglobin is normal, but I think it does. My question is, which iron supplement should I take? There are so many!!!
  9. Thanks! Great ideas! Ha! He would love this! Thanks so much!
  10. My insomnia is usually the kind where I keep jerking awake over and over again when I'm trying to fall asleep , though I sometimes get the wake up in the middle of the night too. So, I've read about what to do for low cortisol (I thought for sure my labs would come back showing that!), but I'm fuzzy about the treatment for high???
  11. Well, looking at that STTM website, it looks like my adrenals were all out of optimal range (morning one, afternoon one, and night one were too high--possible cause of my periodic insomnia??--and my noon one was too low. Only the morning one showed actually out of range. All of my irons except the actual hemoglobin one were too low. I'll ask for repeats of all of the iron tests for sure since it's been over a year. All of the thyroid ones look optimal. Thanks again everyone!
  12. Thanks so much everyone. Thinking about this and checking lab values...
  13. Thanks! My thyroid numbers do seem optimal. My ferritin is actually in the normal range, but it seems that optimal is 50-100. I guess my dr. forgot to tell me that part :) Thanks! Care to share the names of the books? What supplements are you doing? Good luck to you!!
  14. I need advice. Late last year I finally got in to see a naturopath about my fatigue that had been on and off for the previous 18 months. All my thyroid tests, including T3 and T4, came back normal. My adrenal saliva test (shockingly) did not come back low but a little high. My DHEA was borderline low and my progesterone was high. My vit D was normal. He said my ferritin was low from my last set of blood tests--the previous January. (It was 36.). He advised I take some extra B vitamins, but couldn't do a lot for me other than that until I weaned my toddler. (She's now weaned). On my own (thanks to advice on here!!), I went back on a prenatal vitamin and almost immediately felt better--not all of the way better, but much better. That lasted for a wonderful 4 months, and then slowly the fatigue began creeping back i, even though I am still on the prenatals. Now, I am exhausted all of the time again, and I have a constant dull headache. I have really heavy, long periods, but my ob did a fingerstick and said I am not anemic. I have an appointment with the naturopath again next week. What should I be asking him to do? My last comprehensive iron panel was in Jan, 2016, so I'll request that for sure. Vit B12 was normal last Jan as well. What else???
  15. I'm thinking of using the insect guide from Memoria Press and some insect kits from Insect Lore (butterflies, ants, ladybugs). I don't love the worksheet part of MP, but I'd want some sort of written output. How would you do this? What would you add?
  16. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I'll look at all of these!
  17. Thanks so much everyone! I'm looking through all of these options!
  18. Thanks so much everyone! I'll check these all out. I don't even know where in the Bible I want to start--just somewhere :) Dh and I are not new to Christianity (we were both raised Catholic), but we are very new to the type of church we are now attending and the way they go through the Bible a little bit each week. Our church has Bible study groups we hope to start attending in the future, but there just isn't any time in the schedule right now.
  19. Hi! I am looking for suggestions. I am trying to find something that will go passage by passage explaining the Scripture for me as I read the Bible. Something that prompts me to journal as well would be a plus. We are new to any sort of Bible study. Our pastor does a terrific job of explaining Biblical passages to us on Sundays, but I want more! Thanks so much!
