  1. Cheryl...I love your marathon!! That was my first choice but I chose the Feb. 17th Myrtle Beach because the date works out better for me. I live about 3 hours NW of you - about an hour from Asheville. This will be my first and I am so excited or that feeling may just be concern. What marathons have you done in the past? How do you train? I have done a local 10K here in Spruce Pine, NC for several years. It is all mountain horse trails thru the rivers and over the mountains. My passion is trail running but I think I am ready for a marathon. I didn't sleep too good the night after I signed up because I was wondering what I had done...I'm glad that you are counting the cost before you sign up...but if I can do it...you can.
  2. Thanks Nono! That book looks great! I am happy to find other runners here! I wish you the best Chickenpatty! It is so exciting isn't it!!! Ruth
  3. Hi! Thanks for the encouragement!! I have been running since my last baby was born...a little over a year. My marathon is Myrtle Beach in 22 weeks. I am planning a half on Dec. 11. I am currently running 30-35 miles a week just for fun and realized that a marathon could really be within reason. I have always wanted to. I ran a 10K in August and ran better than I ever did in cross country in high school. That was 5 kids and 20 years ago. Homeschooling and children strengthen your mind which makes for a better runner...I think. Thanks for your help!
  4. Hi! I know this is not homeschool related...but this is where I turn to for good answers. I am really excited about trying a marathon. Any good books or ideas that you recommend? Thanks! Ruth

  7. Hi! We have tried everything but.... Our test scores came back bad again! My 8th grader tested way above average in everything else but 4th grade in Spelling. I would like to really help her this year before official high school starts. I am willing to do anything. We have tried learning rules, and most of the programs. Nothing seems to help. Thanks! Ruth

  19. Hi! One of my girls (10 years old) has a very timid nature. She excels with her book learning and is extremely kind and caring. She has a weekness with communication. Even among her own family she is not very verbally expressive. At a young age (3) she had speach therapy because she had a very hard time learning to make several sounds. She has also been my most shy child from infancy. Her older sister (12) is very verbal and dominates many conversations within and without the family so dd10 doesn't often need to initiate conversations. DD10 is shy and seems to have many insecurities about appearance and making friends. I think these "fears" are very unrealistic because she is sweet and beautiful. What can I do to strengthen her self confidence and help her communicate?
  20. I am considering using this over the summer. Any thoughts?
  21. Hi! What are these DVDs like? Can a student be self taught (6th grade) with these DVDs?
