  1. I see that you are using SL with your kids. I just switched our older 4 to SL and a loving it. Can you compare MFWK and SL P4/5? I will check the MFW forums too. I didn't even think of that. :)
  2. Our ds is 5.5 He reads a lot already even beyond cvc words. He loves to write and does pretty well. We are just working on a few letters that he starts bottom up. Anyway, he loves, loves school. He loves to cut and paste and draw. I think he is beyond most of the phonics in MFWK at this point. I am trying to decide if I should just stick with it or go with something else. I am leaning towards AAR1 so we can move quickly through what he knows and find where he is at phonics wise. Should I do AAR 1 with MFWK? I am so confused. He just seems farther down the road than what I had planned for him. Right now we are using and loving.... living books for science HWOT for handwriting lots of reading of all kinds of books
  3. Hi, we just started using Sonlight with our family. We are thrilled with it so far. Anyway, we are using core G for our oldest 2. One of the books needed is the Usbnore Encyclopdia of World History. Can I use the Usborne internet linked Encyclopedia or will it be off? Just trying to save money where I can without buying the wrong book. lol
  4. I know it wasn't called G in 2007 but I was wondering if anyone has this? If so, did it come with notes for each week or just the weekly 4 or 5 day schedule? I have the reader, read aloud and history study guide. Just not sure if there were weekly notes.
  5. It is 2008. thanks for trying to help me figure this out.
  6. I purchased a p4/5 IG used. There are only notes for the first week all of the other pages are blank. There is a weekly schedule for each week but no notes to go along with it. I looked at the sample IG online and week 18 has notes...my week 18 does not. Any idea what I purchased? Thanks for any help, Heidi
  7. Totally makes sense now. Thank you both. :)
  8. When you are using a Sonlgiht core for more than one child at a time how do you work out the readers? Do you have both kids read at the same level? I just purchased a core used and it came with the level 2 reader schedule. I am not sure what to do with my 4th grader.
  9. Our 5.5 year old is already reading quite a bit. CVC words are easy for him. Would I still go with AAR 1 and just move quickly through until he gets stuck or should I go with AAR 2? I have always used a boxed curriculum for K so I am not sure which way to go with phonics.
  10. Preston has not been my typical 5yr old at all. He seems to be 2 steps ahead of me when it comes to learning. He easily reads cvc words and more. He loves to color, cut, draw and glue. He also loves workbooks. Maybe a program like AAR 1 or 2 would make more sense for him. Then we can quickly move through what he knows and find out where he kind of levels out and go from there.
  11. We aren't really using MFW as it is. I think he is a little beyond it already. I just felt like I was lacking with phonics but maybe we will have enough with AAS? That's the one thing I am not sure of.
  12. We are using MUS Alpha. I totally forgot to add that.
  13. We are in the process of switching our family to Sonlight for history, bible and lit. I was going to use MFWK with our 5yr old but I think I am going to use SL for him as well. What should I add in for him? He is already reading a lot and loves to write. He is a crafty guy and loves to cut and glue ALL DAY! :) So for him I have.... Sonlight P4/5 AAS level 1 A Reason for Handwriting lots of reading various living books from the library for science What else could I add? More phonics?
  14. Our dd 13 is in week 9 of MUS Algebra 1. She is not mathy nor am I. I am trying to teach myself along the way but it is a struggle for me too. i had wanted her to go with something like Teaching Textbooks because of how the problems are worked out. She tried TT and did not like it at all. So she did MUS Pre Alg. last year and we did ok. Alg. 1 is kicking butt this year though. Any ideas what I can do to help her as well as myself? i know I will be teaching Algebra a few more times and it would be nice to understand it. lol
  15. Thank you! It is just nice to have another set of eyes make sure I am not missing anything major. :)

  17. In our Target $1 spot they have mini dry erase markers and erasers which are great for little hands. :) We have also tried the click dry erase markers but those seemed to dry out fairly quick.
  18. This is our 7th year homeschooling. We are getting ready to start our 9th week. I always prefer a "boxed" curriculum but never found one that totally worked for us. So this year I am using partially planned with Sonlight and then my own things in other areas. I would love for you to take a look and tell me whether I am on the right track or not. I don't know if it s nesting hormones or what but I am worried I am not doing enough or that I have big gaps somewhere. Ok here goes..... 20. I am stuck on ideas for K too. Here are some of our ideas. 1.geobaords 2. magnetic foam shapes and cookie sheet 3. Kindergarten printables on various themes...this week is Legos from 1+1+1=1. Target has a small lego box that looks like a wipe container kind of in the storage section. I am filling it with random legos and each day we take a pic of his creation. 4. stamping letters and words 5. Rush Hour Jr. 6. Rummikub for sequencing letters and numbers
  21. Thank you so much for your reply. Totally makes sense. I plan to follow pretty closely. I need the structure of knowing when to read what. I love having the notes but I don't mind having to flip for them. I think for this year I will try to find the IG's used and see how that goes. Thank you again for all of your help. :)
  22. We are going to try Sonlight this year with our family. We are going to use the bible, literature and history portion. Currently I am using the 3 week free trial on cores P4/5, B+C and G. Are the older cores still pretty user friendly? I don't know if I should spend the money on new IG's or try to save and find older versions for less.
