  1. I am really stuck on language arts for our kids. I am looking for something to use for our 2nd, 4th and 6th graders. We have literature covered. I need something for grammar and writing. We have our other subjects all figured out. I just wish we could find an LA program that works for us. I like something I can do with each of them. After 7yrs I am learning that spending a little one on time to make sure concepts stick is well worth it over time. Right now we are using and love..... My Father's World Math U See IEW's PAL for K-2 We have tried.... GWG WWW CLE LA I just started to try out FLL 2 and 4. SO far I am liking it. However I need something for writing if we go this route. Some of the things we need to work on are I and not i, punctuation and really just the basics. This is our last hole in our curriculum and I really want to get it figured out. Thanks for any help :)
  2. We have used MFW several times over the years and always end up dropping it. Not because of the curriculum but because of discipline on my part. So I am at the point that I just want to stick something out for a few years. Anyway, I would really like to do MFW Adventures next year with my 1st, 3rd and 5th grader. These are all boys and I think it would be a great fit for them. What are some ways that I can beef it up a bit for my 5th grader without having to tweak it too much on my end? I am really needing an open and go program at this point in our life so I don't want to have to change too much but want to make it worth while for him.
  3. We have used MUS on and off for a few years and came back last year to stay. It just works. I don't think you need to add anyhting but we do. For K-3rd we use CLE math flashcards and Kumon books. For 4-6th we use Key to series (fractions, decimals and percents) For 7-8th we use Key to Algebra.
  4. We are using PAL for writing and it is awesome.
  5. Anything that has coloring pages or notebooking pages to go along with it?
  6. I am looking for something to use for US history, I want something open and go with a christian viewpoint. We have kids k through 8th. Any ideas?
  7. We have been using GWG but I think we need a change. I would rather spend 10-15 minutes working one on one andmaking sure the concept is clear. Right now we are doing GWG 4th with him. Would I do FLL4 or maybe 3? Do I need the workbook? Thanks for any help :)
  8. I am thinking of trying out ES with my two oldest boys. They are in 2nd and 4th grade. These isn't really a level of ES that fits both of them. Do you think they cover a wider range than just what is listed? For example earth science is 2nd-3rd. Would a 4th grader do ok with this or would it be far too easy?
  9. Just wondering where I can find lists of great books for my kids that are sorted by grade level? :)
  10. I could really use some help sorting some things out. Currently our kids are in grades K, 2, 4, 6 and 8. I also have a 6week old, 2 and 3 year old. (Yes, we are done:))Anyway, I have been tring to do Core F with the 6th and 8th, core B+C with 2nd and 4th and core 4/5 with my K. It's not getting done. My 6th and 8th can do their core on their own and then we go over the comprehension ???'s together. I think it might be easier to do something else for the 2nd and 4th and K. I think reading from one book for history might make more sense. I can also having living books avilable for them to read on their own. I love the idea of curriculum like MFW where everyone is included. However, everytime we have tried it someone seems to be left. Either too easy for some or too hard for others. My kids are really crafty. I would love a history spines that includes a lapbook or notebooking. I just feel like there are not enough hours in the day to do what we have planned.
  11. I was just wondering if anyone has used the Kindle version of the Hakim's History of US? Just wondering if there is a difference between the Kindle version and the paperback.
  12. Can I buy just the IG and then purchase the readers as needed or do I have to purchase the whole kit? We love Sonlight for history and this looks quite similar. :)
  13. I am looking for science for our 2nd and 4th grade boys. We have been using Apologia Zoology and it isn't getting done. So I am looking for something interesting that includes some sort of notebooking/lapbooking. Any ideas?
  14. We have been using PAL by IEW for a few weeks with our K5 and totally loving it. It is the perfect balance of everything for us. It has games, worksheets, flashcards...everything. So is there anything similar that I can use for language arts for my older kids? 2nd, 4th and 6th grades?
  15. We do a lot of erasing and rewriting. I am sure part of it is just not forming the letters correctly. We just ordered PAL for our 5yr old. I know in her webinar Jill Pike (I think that is her name) mentioned using the writing portion to improve her older childrens handwriting. I think I will try that too. I probably just need to put more time in with each of them to help things to stick.
  16. My 4th, 6th and 8th grader could all use improvement in their printing and writing. 1 of them holds her pencil kind of towards her. Not sure when this started as this was never the case before. The other 2 I think could just use some polishing. I tried them in each in Getty-Dubay. They would write ok in the book but carrying it into their other work hasn't stuck so far. Any ideas?
  17. I am strongly considering ordering IEW's PAL both reading and writing for our 5.5 year old. He is already reading quite a bit. We use AAS so it seems like this would be a great fit. Just wondering what some people who have used it think about it? My plan would be to use.... PAL reading and writing MUS Alpha Sonlight for bible, reading, and science
  18. Thanks for your help everyone. At least I know I wasn't losing my mind. lol
  19. Thank you for your help. It has a 1. Is there a way I can reset problems that she missed?
  20. My dd is using Teaching Textbooks 7. I bougt it used and it has been great. She has gotten a few C's in a row so I wanted to reset the problems she missed. I don't see anywhere to log in to change the gradebook. Is it possible I have an older version that I can't do this with? I am totally confused.
  21. Our dd completed MUS Pre Algebra last year and did fine. Now we are on week 11 of Algebra 1 and she is not getting it. Even by lesson E she is still missing more than half of the questions. I work them with her every night. I think she understands. Then the next day she misses them all again. I am not a mathy person. After watching the DVD I can get a pretty good understanding to help her though. What else can I do? She does not NEED Algebra this year. It just seemed to make sense after doing Pre A. Should I switch to something else? Add something in? I am really at a loss. I was thinking of adding in Key To Algebra but not sure.
  22. She did MUS Pre A and did fine. An occasional bump in the road but overall she did fine. I was actually amazed how well she died. This year however....
  23. Our dd is in 8th grade and week 11 of MUS Algebra 1. Every single day I am spending hours trying to understand the concepts myself and then teach them to her. We had tried Teaching Textbooks which I loved for ease of teaching but she much prefers MUS. I am not a mathy person but even I can understand after watching the dvd. It's like I think she gets it and then the next day she misses all the same stuff all over again. I have her look through her notes, rewatch the dvd, walk through problems. It's just not working. She doesn't have to do Algebra 1 this year. Do I put it aside for now and use something like the Key to series to reinforce concepts that she is weak in? I just go in my laudnry room and cry because I don't know how to help her. This is just so frustrating.
  24. I love the hive. You all have given me so much to think about. I already own both MFW K and SL P4/5. I think trying to choose between the two was really tough. They both have things I like about them. I think I am going to mesh the two together and add in AAR1. Or I can accelerate MFWK and add in AAR1. Then when we are done add in SL and continue with AAR. Thank you for all of the suggestions. :grouphug:
