  1. We just finished our first artist, Edgar Degas, nothing too exciting. So far so good, DS is not the artistic type, he has no interest in coloring, drawing or crafts. We covered one artist over three days. DS enjoyed the history portion and did really well on the actual art project. I think he feels like he's really creating art as opposed to what felt like 'busy work' in public school (drawing a prescribed picture in a regular lined notebook, with marker or pencil, ugh). This is going to work great for us, once a month.
  2. We have been homeschooling less than 12 months and already are loOking for more. We used MM when we started during 1st grade last year. We found the mastery approach didn't work for us because DS had forgotten what he learned in the beginning, by the end of the program. We just started Horizon Math for 2nd, being that is teaches a spiraling method (reviewing previous material throughout the year) BUT we have just found (five weeks into it) that we need a better approach to subtraction than just 'drills'. We are adding Singapore to learn the concepts, and will continue with the spiral style and practice problems in Horizon. That's one reason :)
  3. Yes, please elaborate on the WWW abbreviation. We are using WWE and I would like to add to it as well.
  4. Congratulations! This Friday is my son's last day of public school. We start homeschooling next Monday!
  5. I am new to homeschooling and The Well Trained Mind. My son's last day of public school, 1st grade, is next Friday (one week). We have not had a lot of time to plan and am quite overwhelmed. I have been reading posts on curriculum and also visiting curriculum websites. But I am having a really hard time deciphering the acronyms used in signatures. We have already ordered Handwriting Without Tears, and downloaded Mammoth Math. My son was doing quite well academically and is reading chapter books (we are currently reading through the Magic Tree House books, he will read a chapter, then I will read 3 or 4) Any curriculum advise is much appreciated!
