  1. Someone tell me about Rabbits Please. We have one that is a pet, but I have wondered about breeding her for meat. How do your kids feel about this? They have helped their dad strip a deer for meat, so they know about animals providing food for us. How many chickens do you need for a family of 5? Anyone have some good recipes for zucchini?
  2. I asked a gardener about the watermelon this year and he said they may not be getting enough bees. He recommended once they flower to take q-tips and transfer pollen from one plant to another yourself. This will ensure they ripen. He also said watermelon are picky about soil moisture. If you let them dry out they won't do well, but they also can't be too wet. I am going to try these things and see what happens.
  3. I hardly have any hair and none above my knees so I only shave every 3 or 4 weeks during summer. In the winter I may shave twice between October and April.
  4. Off-topic, but I cannot help but share that Whackadoodle sounds like a dirty word to me. It makes me think of something you might call boy parts.
  5. Wanted to add that while I believe all that is super important to be Saved you only have to believe that Jesus was God in the Flesh, came to Earth to be born of a virgin, Lived a life without Sin, Died and Rose again to cover our sins. You have to believe you have sin in your life and cannot obtain Heaven through any other way than Jesus. It is a relationship, not a religion or a set of rules.
  6. Without the 6 days of creation being "real" than the whole Bible could all be one big story and also not real. That is why the 6 days of creation is so important. The bible says morning and evening. The scripture others use to argue is that "to the Lord one day is like a thousand." I do not believe it means one morning and evening day could equal a thousands days, but it is meant to show how patient God is towards us. Also, time does not exist for God. But time does exist for us. Another issue with 6 days instead of millions is evolution. The bible says God created everything. Man was formed in "His" image, and therefore couldn't possibly have evolved from an ape. Yet if one day was not one day but really thousands than you could argue for evolution instead of creation. This leads to saying that dinosaurs didn't roam the earth at the same time as man, which I believe they did. It also could lead you to saying all the animals couldn't possibly fit on a boat. You could also cave in and say Jonah couldn't have survived being swallowed by a fish...That walls couldn't possibly fall by an army marching around...That God couldn't come to the Earth in the form of a baby, born of a virgin...That dead people cannot come alive again...That there is no such thing as Evil. I agree that 6 Days is the Basis of the Entire Holy Bible.
  7. I have 14 tomato plants. So far I have 17 baby green tomatoes and about 30 more flowers. I plan to make tomato sauce and ketchup, and I will can these. I'm thinking I should get at least a dozen jars of sauce and 5 jars of ketchup. I planted green beans, which I will can also. I also have zucchini, asparagus, raspberries, blueberries, squash, bell pepper, and pumpkin. In 2 weeks I will plant more green beans, so I can stagger them. I will most likely freeze the bell pepper and squash. I will freeze some blueberries and make blueberry jam with others. I will also make blueberry muffins to freeze for later. I plan to make at least 100 muffins. I went to a pick your own strawberry farm this week and have been making strawberry jam. I will also make strawberry puree for later. I am freezing the rest. I got 5 gallons. The pumpkin won't be ready til fall, but I will puree it and can it for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I make an awesome pumpkin bread. I also planted a watermelon, but am not counting on it ripening. Haven't been able to get one yet. The kids just always want to try anyways. There is a farmer's market near me Today at 4pm. I will go there and buy milk. I will check out what veges look good and probably get some too. I buy honey from a friend with bees. Here is a good recipe I just found for making Syrup to flavor seltzer water. We make homemade soda here. Berry Spritzer In a pot bring 1 cup each of raspberries, blueberres and strawberries and 3/4 cup of sugar to a boil. Remove from heat and mash the berries. Strain them pressing hard on berries to seperate the liquid. Discard solids and chill the liquid for 30 minutes. Add 6 cups of seltzer. I wouldn' throw away the berries you mashed though. You could make muffins or bread with it. Or you could throw it in something else.
  8. I really like it when everyone wears the same colors. It is personal preference but I love White shirts and denim. I also like barefoot pictures.
  9. Ain't nothin' gonna to break my stride Nobody's gonna slow me down, oh-no I got to keep on movin' Ain't nothin' gonna break my stride I'm running and I won't touch ground Oh-no, I got to keep on movin I always think of this chorus when I am running. I totally agree with ABBA. I think any song with a fast beat that you know all the words to is good. Pick songs that you know because singing along can help take your mind off the "pain."
  10. I really need help deciding on which company to use. My ds 11 does not like math, but is decent at it. He is not self-motivated. I have ruled out TT and Saxon. We used Singapore up through 4A and then switched to Saxon for 5/4 through 7/6. He did great, but I am tired of Saxon. It is just too much, too boring. He dreads it and it takes too long. We also did LOF Fractions and Decimals this year. Should I switch to New Directions Singapore Math for grade 7? Can anyone comment on LOF PreAlgebra?? What else is a good program?
  11. I loved the Williamson Little Hand and Kids Can! series. They have Art, Science, Math, Reading and more. We read a lot. There are lots of free Letter of the Week curriculums. I did a lot of Montessori learning games. http://whatdidwedoallday.blogspot.com/ Here is an awesome blog
  12. If you don't mind Christian Content there are tons of good books out there. I really like the SisterChicks series by Robin Jones Gunn. They are funny.
  13. Are you wanting pink or blue? Maybe a stripe of a color? I do agree about figuring out what shades look good with your skin tone. Also, think about your wardrobe. As a blonde I look good in pastels with pale skin, but when I go reddish I cannot wear yellows and oranges. I have to pull out grays and navys.
  14. Have you looked at Montessori Math? I use this http://www.brilliantmindsmontessoristore.com/pages/Math with my younger 2 and it is wonderful to see what my 4yo can do. She can add or subtract to the thousands and understands place value. It gives the hands-on aspect that helps younger kids visualize math. For the OP: I am doing MM and BA next year with my ds7. Instead of concentrating on accelerating him through the grades we went wide. We completed about 6 different math programs last year, but stayed around his grade level. He was able to do TT4 in 2 weeks. I had him take the quizzes until he scored less than 95, but he did above on every test. I really wouldn't recommend it for your son at all.
  15. Are you nursing? I have heard of it lumps caused from your hormones being passed through the milk. I would take her in to make sure though.
  16. My last name is a common noun that everyone knows, but every single person asks me how to spell it. It gets quite annoying. For Brynna I have gotten Breeanna, Brinah(long i,) and some people don't konw where to begin.
  17. Thanks! I am amazed that the general public for the most part does not know basic phonics rules.
  18. :iagree:This is what I would/did do too. I refused to take anything after our first was born. It was left to him to take care of it. We have 3 kids. :001_smile:
  19. We just got a landline phone after years of cell phone only for my oldest. He is old enough to stay home for a few hours but we needed to be able to contact him.
  20. Those are good. I think you will really enjoy The Olde Pink House. If you drive out to the beach at all The Crab Shack has awesome seafood, fresh off the boats. The Tea Room on Broughton St. is a neat experience. If you guys go walking through clubs and bars downtown, Vinnie Van Go Gos has great NewYork Pizza. 606 East Cafe is also fun, it is different a lot of Scad Students go there/work there. Definitely take a carriage ride/trolley ride. The streets are beautiful.
  21. If you do GTG you could just go to the library and wing it. Just take your subjects and country and pull a bunch off the shelves. You can print out sheets to go with from here: http://www.homeschoolcreations.com/Geography.html It wouldn't require much time on your part to implement this.
  22. If they like "natural or healthy" food at all definitely go to the Early Girl Eatery. I love that place! It would be a good choice for breakfast too. What places to eat did you choose in Savannah?
  23. I do all the time too. It is just hair, it grows back. I have been brown, blonde, platinum, red and every shade in between. My natural color is like a dishwater blonde that is so blah. I like to occasionally do bangs, sometimes I grow them all the way out. I haven't gone shorter than chin length though because I have a really round face. My hair is also naturally curly, but I usually straighten it.
  24. I got mine. I was just thinking I need to unsubscribe to all these magazines!! I get everything and I want everything. I like the new K Favorites book.
