  1. I’ve been spoiled by Story of the World with its audio book option. What other curriculums (any subject) has an audio option?
  2. We are currently using ELTL but I'm having trouble juggling multiple levels. I know of Memoria Press Classical Composition and Classical Academic Press Writing & Rhetoric covers it, what else?
  3. Perhaps try to do a search for commonplace book
  4. Not my blog post but sounds like what you are trying to figure out: http://faithfilledparenting.com/how-i-make-homeschool-rotations-work-with-independent-learning/
  5. I stuck a pebble up my nose at Kindercare when I was two or three. Had to go to the doctor to get it out. My mom told me once that she was called to testify about me putting the pebble up my nose because apparently a family was suing the childcare center because their son put a pebble in his ear and was now deaf in that ear.
  6. We have math and language arts figured out. Looking for an enrichment for us to do as a family 10, 7, and 4. That isn’t history based or seasonally based. Fewer additional books to hunt down the better. Preferable a survey of lots of subjects and topics to help them find something that interest them. When something strikes their interest they don’t need any help digging deep, the problem is exposing them to things. They lack the initiative for explore new topics. Was contemplating using the core knowledge what your __ grader needs to know books. But I can’t figure out how to schedule it. The usual method of take the number of pages and divide doesn’t seem very applicable.
  7. Eldest just turned 10. During the summer he did one lesson of Saxon 5/4 every other day and 30 minutes of Beast Academy 3B on the other days. He likes Saxon because unlike Math Mammoth and Beast Academy there is a definite beginning and end to each lesson for the day. It's not work for thirty minutes and see how far you get. He isn't fond of Beast Academy because it's hard and challenging. But he is happy when he figures it out so it's not impossible for him. We feel the two programs compliment each other, however he wont get anywhere fast going every other day. So our options are -do both every day. I'm concern that it would be too much math per day -Make Saxon the main every day math, but keep Beast Academy every other day. Concern that since Beast is a full math curriculum using it as a supplement wont have the desired outcome. Is there is a better problem solving supplement? -find something different: Is there a full math curriculum that each lesson has a clear ending, has the problem solving like Beast academy, and can be done independently?
  8. I saw the most awesome bumper sticker this morning. If I hadn’t been driving, I would have taken a picture. If I had seen it on a parked car, I would have stuck around to talk to them. It said: My homeschooler has more friends than your honor student. I wish I knew where they got it.
  9. Perhaps the game roller coaster tycoon. It’s a theme part simulator game. you can design your own roller coaster within the confines of the track available I personally was never any good and stuck to the pre made rollercoasters. But might be worth looking into. It’s an old game, but you can get it off steam.
  10. I came across an interesting Lego curriculum last night. It's rather interesting. The workbooks are digital. They have workbooks based on Duplos one for the littles, workbooks for the Lego Education Simple and Powered Machines Set for the middles, and the EV3 set for the bigs. https://www.handsontech.co.za/technologycurricula.html I find the "curriculum" that come with the Lego education set to be lacking and I thought I'd share.
  11. Khan academy has a young kid app can’t think of what it’s called. I introduced Minecraft at that age. Just creative mode. Because I wanted my kid to build things but I didn’t want the baby to eat the Legos ? and stepping on them wasn’t fun either. Sounds like you have a tablet or something. There is a site that lists all the free and other significant price drop kids apps on Fridays. Read the descriptions and download any interesting ones. Let him play them and if he hates them delete them off. That’s how we found a lot of our apps.
  12. There is a facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1945204402476134/ Samantha you asked in the other thread but I figure it would be more useful to answer here: The reason I bound the pages at the top was because there are a lot of cut and paste activities in the student workbook. it's easier to cut the activities out when it's bound at the top versus on the side.
  13. Maybe barefoot meandering Primal health books: http://barefootmeandering.com/site/primal-nutrition/
  14. This year is the first year of doing a writing curriculum. (Unless you count all those failed attempts that didn’t last more than a month) Eldest was a late reader so we had been focusing on reading up till this last summer. Now that that’s up to something usable I have eldest and middle doing Beowulf’s Grammar and eldest is doing Treasured Conversations as his writing curriculum. https://www.educents.com/p/writing-instruction-through-guided-analysis/2bca1fce its going well. He likes it. I like it. We are six weeks in. Eyeing classical academic press’ writing and rhetoric for next year and beyond. We shall see.
  15. I printed at home. But I buy and print PDFs alll the time. I buy paper buy the case I think ten teams cost $25 dollars last one I ordered. I have a black and white laser and a color inkjet. I buy generic so last time I ordered I think it was a five full sets for $20. It’s been awhile since I ordered colored ink. Since I mostly use black and white. But I really felt that this one needed to be in color. The Beowulf’s Grammar psd comes in four parts. I printed the first section in color three times. One for my eldest (10) who could really use the grammar review, middle (7) who is just starting to learn grammar and the program screamed his name and the tag along four year old. Biggest recommendation would be to bind along the top edge. The review questions are the in last section. I printed those off in black and white. I also bought the teacher guide, but I reference that on my iPad.
  16. I was going to mention beowulf’s Grammar as well. I was fond of Barefoot meanderings English through literature but I think it covers more than what you are looking for. Before finding and switching over to Beowulf’s Grammar I was about to use Memoria Press Simply Classical Writing for grammar.
  17. Well Trained Mind just came out with a mulitplication fact mastery book. I just started it with eldest two weeks ago, wish it had been out last year when we started multiplication oh well. We really liked the addition book so it was a no brainer to get the multiplication one when it came out. I also use Xtra math once they know it and just need to work on speed.
  18. First Language Lessons wasn't for us. We did a lot of language arts hopping though. We finally settled down with Barefoot Meandering English Lessons through Literature with eldest. But are using 8filtheheart's Treasured Conversations this year. Next in line just turned 7 and we are using Guest Hollow's Beowulf's Grammar and he finds it extremely fun.
  19. On a whim I looked at the new Notgrass American history aviable for pre order. I realized that for the past two or three years I've been trying to do Charlotte Mason and just completely discontent about the whole thing. I never could place a finger on it, but I think I have an idea. I like textbooks. I like having something all together and self contained and not having to in addition go find a zillion living books. I had avoided textbooks because up till recently all the ones I knew were very dry. Since this a brand new can of worms for me, I am not entirely sure how to go hunting. what are your favorite textbooks?
  20. Does anyone know of a resource that helps identify the parent's teaching style and the child preferred learning style? And then goes on to say how to mesh the two. Making something up: what if mom really likes workbooks, but their child is a more auditory learner. would it suggest to do the workbooks out loud orally? Or say mom really like to do unit studies but the child prefer to do workbooks would it say set the kid free and bury them in workbooks?
  21. Good and beautiful has an Anthropod unit. http://www.jennyphillips.com/science/
  22. I had plans to do Memoria Press with Middle son 6 turning 7 in the fall this past year, but life got in the way (new baby sister and deployment). Instead he spent the year playing reading eggs. We managed to work through book A of the first start phonics from Memoria press. We have just started book B, I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time going through the phonics program. I sat down over the past week: He read Little Bear and Frog and Toad with no problems. He read the I can read book First Flight well, he had the most troubles with the names of people and places. Do I keep going with First Start Reading? Switch over to something like Phonics pathways? Just have him read books? something else?
  23. Our state has an online options. You are still enrolled in the schools and are not a home schooler. It’s has set hours that you have to be online for each day. In my town, it’s a popular option for families worried about bullying and shooters who when the make the initial move to remove their child from the brick and mortar don’t want to invest the time and money into homeschooling. Generally within two years they have either gone back to public school or send in their notice of intent and become homeschoolers.
