Would you stay where you were, even if you didn't particularly love living there? I do think it's best for us to be away from family, but where we are living now isn't totally ideal. It's not terrible, but I can see the perks of being in FL. I can also see many downsides.

No. You should move over the mountains and *I* will watch them all :D And then we can be IRL friends

  2.

Yes, many of the adults in her life, specifically at her daycare (which I mentioned) let her get away with too much, and they, as well as strangers, showered her with praises about her hair. She showered herself with praises about her hair. As she was set to begin spending her days with a new set of people, I decided to change the one thing I could. I cut off three inches, so it still goes down the back, but the ringlets are gone. That did the trick. So, I didn't make her ugly, I altered her appearance to be not quite so OMG to people.

I thought you said she was there for almost 4.5 years. You are clearly not telling the same story twice. Before you stir things up for response you may want to work out the details and remember them

  3. Hmm very interesting renmew. So were you the "un" pretty one growing up? How did that make you feel? Your daughter was in the same care for 4.5 years, and complemented on her pretty hair often. Did you want her to know what you went through? So you tried to give her an ugly hair cut because she got the attention you wanted as a child? Maybe you should talk about it.

And what if she grows up to be a make up artist, or a cosmetologist, or a plastic surgeon? A career that is centered around beauty?

I hope you at least donated all of that gorgeous hair. There are people who would love to have hair on their head.

  4. Just an idea, as I'm not an expert at all, but I did kind of do this to my youngest just before she started school for the first time.

Give her an ugly haircut, really.

My youngest has long, golden hair with perfect ringlet curls. It is absolutely gorgeous and is ALL that people see. Add in blue eyes and an adorable smile and she can pull the same tricks. She was at the same daycare since 5 weeks old and did get away with more than I wanted. So, right before she was to begin a new school, I cut off her curls. She still has beautiful hair, and sometimes people mention it, but it is not every. single. day. every. where. we. go.

Aside from the first post in this thread, that is the most disturbing t hing I"ve read in a while.

5 weeks old and she was already trouble? Yikes.

  5. My guess is that it is a reference to "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" wherein Arthur Dent discovers the answer to life, the universe and everything. Wendy's twist is to question that answer.

It's rather clever and funny, I think.

That and a Big Bang episode :D

  6. SOrry thatI haven't been checking here. I just wanted to say a quick tip for mailing if you don't have any special envelopes. Just fold it up in a ziplock and put it in a regular envelope. I"ll press everything fresh before sewing :) If sending one block you sould be ok with just one stamp, maybe one first class and one secondary.

Thank you everyone for everything you have given, time and fund wise for this special project. You are all some awesome ladies :D

Even though I'm not online much lately I still get email notification when I get a message so feel free to PM me anytime

  8. I'm tring to keep up with messaging but I have been on an internet break except for this, however I DO get notification when I get a PM.

If anyone wants to send a hug, a note, anything but don't sew, absolutely do that! I plan to get everything together and make one big package. A few have stated they do not sew but will be writing a card, or something else. If you write, draw, paint, etc anything will be so loved.

  9. You can do a lot of things with 9" squares even if you can't sew. The things you can do MOST to help with the actual fabric part is to make sure you cut it as "straight of grain" as possible--that is, so that the edges match the direction of the threads. That will keep the quilt from puckering.

You can dye, stain, draw on, paint on fabric. You can sew on buttons or ribbons. You can write in permanent ink. You can take it to a copy store and have a picture printed on it.

If you have a lot of scraps you can sew them together in rows and cut a 9.5" square out of that jumble. ("God writes straight with crooked lines." comes to mind here.)

There are some fabric stores that sell really amazing fabrics that you could cut the exact 9.5" square you want out of it, and that would be good as gold.

By the way, I'm in. Molly and I have the same exact favorite color set. I could make her a 9.5 ACRE square out of my stash of those colors. :)

    You are practically my neighbor!

  10. I want to do this, but I have never made a quilt before (though I do sew). When I sew the quilt square, it's just the top correct? Not anything else-that all (the batting and the rest) gets done when the whole top of the quilt is assembled?

And could I get a pm of the address to send it?

I'll send you the address. And yes, JUST a (finished at 9") 9.5 inch block :)

  11. Sorry to vanish with so many questions, had to get the kids set up on their next assignment

Okay to clarify the squares will be 9.5" raw so 9" finished

The colors will be blue, purple and aqua, which are Molly's favorite colors. OR a square that will coordinate with those if you can't find any of those in your stash :).

Thank you Lisa for your awesome talent, I will definitely be taking you up on it. For those that want to contribute but can't sew that is an option you can take up too. Cut your square, write what words you want on a peice of paper and pin to the fabric where you want it, Lisa can then use her embroidery machine to stitch those words on and viola instant square, and no sewing experience needed :)

    THAT is a great idea.

Or another thing, use a 6ish inch square and then I"ll embroider and add sashing to the square to help tie in with the color scheme.

Thanks Brandy, this is a wonderful idea.

  12. Can someone post a picture of what they are doing? I can sew simple simple patterns but haven't done any quilting. I want to do a square though. I just need a better idea of what I'm supposed to do.

It can be any quilt block (finished) at 9"

You can do something as simple as a 4 patch. Which would be (4) 5" blocks stitched together 2 on top 2 on bottom alternating colors. Keeping a 1/4" seam, that makes a block that is 9.5." The half inch is so when they are all sewn together the blocks are each 9" finished.

Or you can cut a 9.5 inch square and embroider something.....basically anything that is 9.5." Quilt blocks are kind of standard sizes but if you google quilt blocks 9 inch you get tons of pictures and patterns

  13. I'm not online much so someone can message me, but I can contribute. I don't know if you meant having a quilt shop actually do the quilting? Depending on when I can help with that....er, do the quilting. With 9 inch finished blocks you need about 35-42 for a good sized throw. I have a large stash of those colors and enough yardage for a backing, and I buy Warm and White cotton batting by the bolt. I can do decorative quilting and put everything together with sashing/borders if necessary to tie in the colors. Unless someone else is already planning to do this.....I can still make blocks .

    Thinking of you Astrid

Oh and I can do machine embroidery of text so if there is anything anyone wants to say and NOT hand stitch that is a possibility. Like a card on fabric or something.
