  1. All of my children have visited our chiropractor in infancy. The first one had colic, which he cured in one visit. He said her neck was out of alignment. I can tell you from personal experience that it is extremely painful to have your neck out of alignment; it is worse than a migraine for me. The other kids saw him on their 3rd or 4th day of life for an adjustment. With babies, they are VERY gentle. I don't know if an adjustment will help with spitting up but it won't hurt the baby if you go to one that is trained to work on babies. My 4th spit up constantly and was eventually on the highest dose of prilosec for her size because of it. It turned out that she was reacting to the dairy in my diet. Once I eliminated dairy, the spitting up ceased. When I ate food with any dairy, even cross-contamination, she cried and puked for 18 hours. I would look into diet for a baby having problems with spitting up or gerd.
  2. Something that allow me to be a high school level and elementary level teacher at the same time. Ever since the youngest two were born, one set or the other has been neglected in some way.
  3. When we are dairy free, I use soy free Earth Balance (red container). My family thinks it tastes exactly like real butter and it bakes just like butter, too.
  4. Owie, owie, owie. I hope this does the trick, because the pain alone should fix it.
  5. How about posting the age range here and seeing if there is anyone here that is interested?
  6. What happened between 1997 and 1998 to cause a jump in homeschooling?
  7. Um....I hear words, no pictures. There's no way I'm an auditory learner...visual all the way.
  8. That sounds like a tough situation. To answer your question, yes.
  9. My now 12 year old son had severe delays when he was younger, including speech. One of his problems was articulation; he never voiced the last sound in any word. He had fluid build up and no infection in his ears for two years. Because the only hearing loss was in the higher end and supposedly didn't affect speech, they never told me. The ENT didn't know if tubes would help or not; he said we'd have to try them and see. We chose to try them. His teacher, his speech therapist, and I all noticed an immediate improvement. Did it solve all of his delays? No, but it definitely helped. Note: His delays ended up being caused by malnutrition caused by severe lactose intolerance. We fixed the lactose intolerance, and he caught up in all delayed areas.
  10. My 7 year old likes Blokus, Star Fluxx, Digger's Garden Match, Apples to Apples.
  11. Now I want them. Thanks...a lot (said sarcastically). Please tell me that they are SUPER cheap.
  12. I used it through Algebra 1 with DS12. He is currently in public school taking Algebra 1; there were no other math options that would work. While he is taking it in 7th grade, it will count as high school math when he passes the end of year test. There is exactly one topic the public school class will cover that he didn't learn in MUS Algebra 1; that is functions which MUS puts in PreCalculus. The problems on DS's math homework are no more difficult than MUS's problems. I plan on using MUS exclusively with DD14. She's not a STEM-type student and dislikes math, in general. I'm not concerned with her getting a rigorous math education; getting through the basics will be fine for her.
  13. We found the Roku remotes. The one that controls sound on our system has been MIA for about a week. I think we'd need at least four of those, though six would probably be better. They are cheap enough that I might consider trying them.
  14. We have a basket that is the "home" for all of our entertainment center remotes. Yet, the three most needed remotes are now missing, and none of them appear to be in the room with the TV. So, how do you keep remotes from walking away and getting lost?
  15. My DS12 found friends at boy scouts and youth group. We encourage bonding with his friends by hosting a movie night or game night at our house once or twice a month....with food, of course. He gets some of his intellectual socialization from astronomy club and talking with adults. I put him into public school a month ago. He's in the most advanced classes and is not being challenged at all. When I ask about friends, he tells me, "Mom, I'm at school to learn, not socialize." That said, he has managed to somewhat connect with one boy that is in a couple of his classes. I don't know if that boy is an academic peer; the shared classes are not the advanced ones. So our experience so far is that school is neither providing him with challenging academics nor a bunch of academically-minded peers.
  16. I need resources to teach identifying the main idea and making inferences....middle school or high school level. My son has difficult with noticing and understanding facial expressions and body language. Similarly, he has difficulty identifying the main idea of a written piece and inferring meaning when it isn't directly spelled out. Hoping for some suggestions covering just these topics. I don't need a whole English curriculum. Thank you in advance. You guys always have some of the best suggestions.
  17. Well, my son does have ear infections in both ears. As far as the flu/tamiflu/AIWS, he mentioned that hallucinations can be caused by the flu itself. That's what everyone has said, but they don't have a response when I tell them that he didn't have hallucinations the first night with 103 degree fever but did have hallucinations the second night with Tamiflu and a lower fever. He documented the progression of his symptoms to date, read the case study and wrote about it in his file (thanks sbgrace!), and said he would look into whether it needs to be reported. He had no suggestions beyond melatonin to help him sleep, fish oil to help heal his brain, and just waiting for it to resolve on its own.
  18. Thanks. I printed this out to take to the doctor. He was up a lot last night with an ear infection that came on suddenly. So, we're heading in this afternoon, and I plan on talking with the doctor with the ongoing issues as well.
  19. Thank you! This description seems to nail exactly what he is describing. He has specifically mentioned that people's heads look smaller than they should be as well. This all started with one dose of Tamiflu; I'm guessing it is psychoactive drug, which is why it is known to cause hallucinations in children. Now that I have a better idea of what is going on, it is time to call the doctor again.
  20. About a month after having a bad reaction to Tamiflu, DS7 is still not quite back to normal. One of the things he's complaining about is "everything looks far away" and normal sounds being louder than normal and scary. These two things happen simultaneously, are short-lived, and seem to occur most often when he has just laid down to go to bed. He is now afraid of the dark because of it when he previously wasn't. He has mentioned it happening during the day a couple of times. Any ideas? ETA: In case it leads to any additional ideas, the bad reaction was hallucinations and the other main symptom that we are dealing with is disturbances to his sleep. He went from waking up hallucinating to waking up from really bad dreams to waking up disoriented. He has slept through then night twice in about 50 days when he previously slept soundly.
  21. We had homemade pizza tonight.
  22. I have a 2006. We've been pretty happy with it. I chose it specifically because I wanted the seats that fold into the floor. That's been a great feature when we've needed it. I've had a few issues with it. The side door locks quit responding to the key fob so we have to open the front doors and lift the lock by hand. The back lights don't blink when I unlock the door anymore; they used to indicate that the car had gotten the signal from the key fob. It doesn't seem to hold alignment well, but that might be my driving or our roads. We had to replace the air pump last year.
  23. Here is the Facebook for the place we used. If you look through their photos, you'll see the rectangle foam pieces I'm talking about.
  24. Totally agree! I'm more frustrated by the people who create the need for the rules than the venues who make the rules.
