  1. Thank you ladies, I appreciate all your input! I should have clarified. I do FLL1 with DD8 and DD6 but usually only have DD8 write with WWE1. Little DD does some fun handwriting/ counting etc. ☺ï¸
  2. Hello ladies, I am mom to 3 DD's, ages 8.5, 6.5 and 5. We have been homeschooling for 3 years, but just started this curriculum group this year and are very happy with it; SOTW, FLL1, WWE1, Saxon Math 3 (1), abeka handwriting, Spelling Workout and OPGTR. My middle does not read and fights me about it. She is very strong-willed and very smart so I know she knows more than she is letting on. I am really having a hard time getting it together throughout the day. My oldest is not very independent and also lacks focus so it takes us a quite some time to get things done. I need a schedule, combining what I can but I am just struggling to get it done and was wondering if anyone could share how they schedule....how far out...etc Thank you... Lynn

  4. Hi Susan, Can you tell me your feelings in Common Core and whether it will affect your curriculum recommendations ie. Explode the Code and Spelling Workout.? Thank you! Lynn
  5. That is correct. Leigh Bortin started CC and her son now runs it. Definitely different. We started with this when we first started homeschooling a few years ago and now have really gone back to the WTM ...CC is a different world, not for us. My DD8 is definitely one who doesn't grasp the concepts of math easily. I feel like a combo of fun and text would work, its finding the right text where I don't loose her. It's funny (and I know this is not education) but we started swimming lessons in May and she has advanced 4 classes since then because she is "ready". She wanted nose plugs before we started lessons lol and now she is literally a fish. I see the wisdom, I am just not convinced I would cover all the necessary milestones myself...
  6. I read most of the comments but not all so forgive me if I say something you already commented on. First, You are amazing and brave and caring to try to help this woman and to talk to her about this which, for me, would be so very hard. The posts on this thread have been a lot too and I know everyone is trying to help and is passionate. Pray and pray hard. I am going to pray for you and her and this situation. Christians have to try to listen and receive guidance and that's hard when children are involved. Know you are doing the best you can. I wish I understood this woman's hesitation to either homeschool or put them in public school. It just blows my mind she would just speak so boldly about NOT providing this part of life for her children. Thank you for caring and sharing....xoxo
  7. Here is what it says in part. " A ten-year old us perfectly capable of jumping right into a sixth grade math textbook, such as Saxon 6/5 with no previous experience with math workbooks or textbooks. Skipping Kindergarten through fifth grade in math will in no way hinder your child's success in math. You do not need to wear our your child's interest and your own patience attempting to make him understand what his brain is not yet wired to handle. Waiting until age ten, when your child is developmentally prepared to handle mathematical concepts readily, makes instruction in arithmetic very easy. What was painfully spread over five previous years, may here be compressed painlessly into as little time as a month. We are NOT saying that you should keep your child away from numbers before age ten. Not at all. By age four, most children have discovered money, and you will not be able to hide numbers from them after that. Children encounter numbers all of time. If you encourage learning, then they will be asking plenty of questions, and you will have plenty of opportunities for informal instruction in numbers and measurements. But we would not encourage formal workbook instruction before age ten unless the child shows a genuine interest and genuine competency to handle the work. (Bluedorns, Teaching the Trivium, p.369)
  8. Thank you so much! That helps a lot! :hurray:
  9. Hi, I just got WWE 2 for my 8 year old. I did he diagnostic test with her but now into the first lesson she is not understanding finding the key idea or condensing the story into a few sentences. Do I continue to work with her on this or go back and do WWE1? Thank you...
  10. Hello all, We really just started following the WTM, we were sidetracked and have come around full circle. Anyways I do also like the Bluedorns "Teaching the Trivium" book but they advocate no formal math texts until age ten because children will not be able to process it correctly. They do NOT say not to introduce concepts, but they feel money, time, addition, subtraction, 10's can be done without texts. They say with that you should be able yo jump into Saxon 6/5 without issue. Has anyone done this? I see their logic but.......my daughter has never been great at grasping concepts from texts. Thoughts?
  11. Hello, We want to start FLL with my 8 and 6 year old. Do I start my 8 year old in FLL level 2? Would it be too much to start WWE with her as well? My 6 year old isn't reading yet, should I wait on WWE with her? Thank you! â˜ºï¸ Lynn
  12. CC sent every host church a $500 donation last year. This is getting very personal. What about all the curriculum companies? We should allow people profits, if people don't buy, they don't remain. Free enterprise.
  13. I am on her email list and didn't get it! is there a code?? I want one!!!
  14. I have not tried it, but CC does publish a book list every week that corresponds with the weekly history work. They have all the Ages listed. The Director should be able to provide it when it's available. You should be able to combine your children with those books.
  15. The shipping at HSBC ican be high. $7 plus $.95 per item. If your getting one item, it might work. Christian book also sells it and they have free shipping over $35 until Friday. Code 401865
  16. Just saw this and thought I would share. Curious. http://dewlearning.com/ At the upcoming HS conferences but all has discounted price and IPAD giveaway.
  17. Okay TOG people, I really want to start TOG and had posted about trying to line it up with CC but the more I look at it, it would be hard and I will use TOG and supplement with CC sooooooo, I had leaned on starting with Yr2 because of CC but now am wondering should I just start with Yr1 since it wont line up anyways and be sequential? Oh, and I love the book list with Yr 1-the bible history for me is amazing. help! :confused1: Thank you! Lynn
  18. Is it for pre-k? I just looked at ready made preschool. Also MFW makes it easy. :-)
  19. I have it heard that about struggling! I have truly only heard positive reviews. The great thing about Essentials with your daughter is she will get three years to really understand and practice the writing and diagraming (parsing). If you don't like it, you could always start something at home for the next year. Just my .02 and the feedback I have heard re: Essentials. Blessings! Lynn
  20. HI, We are going to start TOG Y2 this fall and I was wondering if there was anyone in the area interested in getting together for weekly lessons? :-) Lynn
  21. I understand totally as my DD is the same age nd at the same point. Can you go to the library ad find books of interest that will be motivating? In our case, it is Princesses. Sometimes it takes a little longer to click but when it does, they will fly! Hang in there! Hugs!
