  1. He used LOF for both Algebra's and MUS Geometry (also did honors lessons) He isn't crazy about taking Pre-Calc but loves the look of the Aops Intro to counting and Probability. He is by no means gifted in math but I do want to it to be somewhat of a challenge. *** His plans right now are a 2 year degree in computer programming along with some certifications...with the possibility of a 4 year degree as some point down the road if he finds it is necessary. I was reading that these courses are usually combined to make a credit? Would love some feedback/advice on this direction as I am not sure what the best choice might be. Thanks Debbie
  2. do you have any suggestions for a thorough review online? We didn't keep the LOF books because I knew my younger 2 would not use them.
  3. We have BOTH algebra with LOF...equiv to Alg 1 and 2, MUS Geometry.... even though he did pretty good with LOF Algebra his MUS placement for Pre-Calc placed him back in Alg 2. He says he's just rusty... he went back over the answers and he's still stumped at how they came to a few of the answers. I don't know what to do now.... go ahead with Pre-Calc anyway and if we get stuck review the algebra? I was looking into Consumer Math but they seem SO EASY.... and definitely NOT a challenge for him. His plans are a 2 yr degree in Computer Programming and one of the math classes he needs is Pre-Calc OR Quantative Literacy.... so even if he struggles with MUS pre-calc this year he will basically be repeating it in college and if he does well then he can take the OTHER math course offered. Any advice? Suggestions? Debbie
  4. I would LOVE to do TOG with my 10th grader, 6th and 4th graders...however our library is going to be limited.... I know there are other families that use our library that use TOG and when our library has one copy of these books I am sure I will struggle finding what I need..... if they even have the books... anybody do TOG with an iffy library selection?
  5. to a different math program though. He has done well with LOF, some struggles with understanding certain things which is why he wants to change. He feels like he's struggled because he's needed more instruction. Thankfully DH has been able to get him over the hurdles. Is it wise to change? FYI he's never satisfied with a math curriculum for long.... it's like when he begins to struggle he wants to change. DH thinks DS has a good grasp of it.... but its difficult when I can't help him and he has to wait on DH to get home in the evenings. Thanks Debbie
  6. he does all the problems.....even the gazillion practice problem book. I would like to find another source to "test" his knowledge of algebra though.
  7. If I have already asked this before...forgive me..I surely cannot find the post if I have. Curious how you grade/determine mastering Life of Fred. DS is doing Algebra. The website says this: ***In the books starting with Life of Fred: Beginning Algebra, there are six Cities at the end of each chapter. If the student can do any one of the six Cities with no errors, then award an A for that chapter. If the student's best score on the six Cities is one error, then a B. Two errors = C Three errors = F Do you go by this, do you grade differently? If so, how do you grade? Thanks Debbie
  8. can he take the zyrtec and benadryl at night? zyrtec is 24 hours...
  9. we are doing both....he showers a few times a day actually and we recently put an air purifier in their bedroom
  10. 14yo ds has never had many allergy problems til about 3 weeks ago. His eyes began itching and were really red, some swelling. He has also been congested sounding in his sinuses. Started on zyrtec, wound up taking him to the doctor for some drainage and he was put on some medicated eye drops. The drainage cleared up but they were still red, itchy. 2 days after we stopped drops he woke up again with the crustiness on the eye..we were told to do drops again 5 more days and they wanted to see him if he had not improved within 3. He is really having a terrible time even with the meds he's taking. What else can I do? Debbie
  11. thanks..... we have learned a lot before getting her but I am still learning....trying to wead through some contradictory info and that is frustrating. We have a small house so the bedroom she is in get a lot of traffic but DH says we can move her into the living room.... I just don't know what to do about our dog... he's a hound/lab mix and he will bark at her I'm sure. We also have a cat but she's out most of the time. I ordered some of the grids from walmart earlier for a cage, they are the smaller grid so they should be fine..... what can I use in the bottom though?
  12. First of all, do any of you have your guinea pig in a bedroom? I guess I didn't do my research and didn't really think of possible allergies but our pig is in our dd's bedroom. She is 9 and really wanted her piggy to be in her room. So far we aren't having any issues but we have also only had her less than 2 weeks. I sure hope we don't have any issues because I have no other place to put her that isn't accessible by the dog or cat  If I get an air purifier in her room will that help? Do guineas get scared easily? I do have a high place I could put the pigs cage but I'm sure the dog might bark at her and I bet that would be enough to stress her out. Also, what type of cage do you use? I was looking at the cages made out of the metal grids like the c&c cages but I need mine covered because of the other animals. Debbie
  13. If your child has used LOF exclusively for Algebra I would love to hear your review. Was it truly enough? We are using LOF Algebra for my ds freshman year math....he seems to be doing well I am just hoping he is truly getting what he needs for Algebra. FYI....he is doing ALL the zillions of practice problems. I surely hope this is all he needs because i have yet to hear him complain about math...he LOVES Fred. I am also contemplating having him go through Key to Algebra to assess when he's done with Fred but I'm not sure if that is the best route to go??? Debbie
  14. thank you...... I really didn't want to try and cram world history into 1 year...
  15. if we chose to do a world history credit in 2 years how would I notate that on a transcript? Could I break that into World History I and World History II ????
  16. I like this one... http://boomergrandparents.com/the-chore-box-genius-concept-for-families/
  17. He did go through the hello world book..which I believe is python.
  18. Well he obviously wants to start small but I'm not certain how far he plans on going. I don't want to spend a ton of $$$ but I would like to try and get him something that he could get the most out of..Kwim?
  19. Ds has done some programming on my old laptop but always complained how slow it was. Are there certain system requirements that are best?
  20. laser pointer and its great for dogs too :)
  21. We have been sick with flu and some of us with most but not all flu symptoms.....all have had fevers...... And everybody just keeps getting reinfected...... I don't feel well but I have to try and disinfect better today...
  22. Colds? One confirmed case of flu...fevers... I have been spraying Lysol but there is so much everybody has touched.....ughhhh
  23. The sickness just won't leave us alone..... It's never ending.....sick, get better, get sick again.... There are just too many surfaces to decontaminate...... We are washing and drying in hot dryer clothing, bedding, towels, blankets constantly...... Running everything through dishwasher on sani cycle.... Lysol spray on all I can possibly spray it on. Opening bedroom windows when I can.....really too cool right now. I cannot possibly sanitize everything every sick person has touched......
  24. Now dh is coughing, sore throat.... Oh no!!! He is my rock he cannot get sick....
