Do you keep your nuts in the freezer?
Sara in AZ replied to MamaBearTeacher's topic in The Chat Board
I keep mine in the freezer, and I don't do anything special to defrost them. I'll put them straight into yogurt or salads, and I've never had a problem with them being too hard or hurting teeth. I'm talking mainly about slivered almonds or halved walnuts and pecans from a regular feeezer above my fridge, not a deep freezer. -
I don't know, but I'm all ears. My DD had her first at 13. Then nothing for 9 months. She has other weird symptoms, too, that I think might point to Celiac Disease. I hope your DD is fine and nothing weird is going on!

This thread is fascinating to me! I had read about this stuff, but not ever heard real life stories. I gave my red headed DD Benadryl for an itchy, bumpy rash she had all over her arm post surgery and it did nothing for the rash and didn't even put her to sleep. Last summer she broke both her arms at the same time and was in sooooo much pain. They gave her every pain med they could give her, but it was still so bad. 😢 I will be more sympathetic at ortho appointments after reading this thread!

I'm so sorry. I hope you both can go home soon! It's so hard being stuck at the hospital. DS 11 had an adenoid/tonsillectomy yesterday...we were at the hospital from 5:30 AM until 5:00 PM. I brought stuff to do, but it's just no fun hanging around the hospital.

Yes. Every day, except on occasion like today when I'm just in the car traveling all day. I don't wear much, though, just a light liquid foundation, blush, powder, and mascara. Lipstick or lip gloss a few times a week.

Have you checked the bedroom windowsills lately? 😜 That's where ours collect. Last year, we bought a water cooler with the jug on the bottom. On the top I taped a label for each kid so they could keep their cup in one place all day. It helps some, but cups still collect on the counter.

I learned from my father to believe in myself and not be afraid to do things that are hard or scary. And to not care what anyone thinks (that took longer to learn because my mother sabotaged it a bit, but I think I'm mostly there!)

How many suits should a man (professional) own?
Sara in AZ replied to Aura's topic in The Chat Board
Yes, for sure. I reread after I posted and realized you said your DH is an engineer. I had assumed software. Software guys are the most casual. The civil/chemical etc engineers that I know usually dress for work a step up above the software engineers I know. Like, probably pants and a button down shirt, not shorts! Interviewing is a whole other situation, but in DH's experience the interviewers for software jobs prefer less formality than a full suit. Being overdressed might actually give a negative impression, actually. In any case, I hope the interview goes well!! -
How many suits should a man (professional) own?
Sara in AZ replied to Aura's topic in The Chat Board
What is the culture of this company? DH is a software guy and has done a lot of interviewing over the years. He rarely goes into an interview in a full suit. Usually nice pants and a nice shirt and tie. A full suit is too formal for most of the companies he's interviewed for (for example Amazon). He wears shorts and polos to work most of the time, and owns perhaps one or two suit coats that he might occasionally wear to church (usually just pants and a white shirt/tie to church). -
Anyone watch Fences (movie)? If so, what'd ya think?
Sara in AZ replied to creekland's topic in The Chat Board
I haven't seen the movie, but DH and I saw the play last year. It was amazing. There were some really intense and poignant moments, and I have never been in a theater where the whole entire audience was collectively gasping and crying together. I'm recommending it to everyone, but it's definitely a heavy, thought provoking show. You have to be in the mood for that. -
Exactly why I'm listening to Rubiks Cube algorithm talk until my ears bleed. Hoping it will pay off!! My oldest is only 14, so I'm no expert. But the thing I feel worst about all the time is that I'm too much of a giant sponge. Too often I absorb all of DD's bad moods and hormonal rantings and allow them to drag me down instead of letting them bounce off and remaining calm and rational.

My 8 and 6 year old DD's love Kidz Bop. Thankfully we have a separate rear audio system in the mini van. 😊

What they said. â¬†ï¸ Hugs!

I'm glad she's on her way home! My heart goes out to you. I am petrified of the day my diabetic moves out on her own and has to manage her diabetes all on her own. 😢 Sounds like her boyfriend is a pretty good support system, though.

Did he check her blood sugar? Do they know any numbers? You must feel so helpless. So sorry! 😢

Phew! I'm so glad they turned up! I lost all the stocking candy yesterday. DH went out and replaced it all. Maybe we'll find the original bag in a closet somewhere and enjoy it again in a few weeks! 😂

Dear MIL, I'm glad you appreciated the new Christmas PJ's, but maybe you could have changed into them in privacy in your room instead of right there on the Couch? Also, I hope you appreciate your amazingly loyal son who wouldn't even laugh with me about the incident. Best Wishes, Me Love this thread! So sorry about all the Christmas drama for everyone!

JAWM/venting: commiserate with annoying get-together stories here
Sara in AZ replied to Rebel Yell's topic in The Chat Board
Just those heavy, shuffling footsteps of MIL coming down the hall as I'm hiding out in my room doing a little wrapping. I knew she was going to open my closed door and barge in. I knew it. "Just wondering where people are", she says. I can hear all the people. In the family room. Why did you have to come in here? -
I have not. After 2-3 weeks of frequent urination and bed wetting, DD's blood sugar was over 600 (non fasting) when she was diagnosed. Is your DD also extremely thirsty and or hungry or losing weight? and when she urinates is it an abnormally large amount of liquid? Those would be other tale tell signs of diabetes. Hoping she doesn't have it and you can figure out the source! (Maybe kidney issues?)

Is there anything over the counter to numb the skin for shots?
Sara in AZ replied to katilac's topic in The Chat Board
DD has Type 1 diabetes. She's not on shots anymore, but whenever we change her infusion set we just use ice to numb her a bit before the big needle goes in. -
I've had four, 3 in the hospital and 1 at home. 2 were induced by breaking my water (no further intervention.) The very best thing we did to prepare was take the 12 week Bradley classes. It was a big time commitment (but we didn't have any kids yet, then!) I think that the more informed the mother is and the more she understands the actual physiology of the birth process the better she will do when trying to have a natural birth. Learning techniques that don't just distract you from the pain but help you actually work with your body is really important. In addition to "Birth the Bradley Way", I found the book "Birthing From Within" to be very helpful when I was brushing up for another birth. I used a lot of ideas from that book. Having a solid birth coach (your husband, a doula, a good midwife) to advocate for you and support you when you are exhausted and want to quit is really important, too. The good news is you have plenty of time to prepare. I hate when someone who is like 37 weeks tells me they think they're going to try for a natural birth without having done a single thing to prepare, not even a hospital childbirth class. That's probably not going to turn out well. You can do it! Read a ton, surround yourself with a good team, and you can do it!

I've been using one for 6 months. My friend had one that looked cool. I like it well enough, but I'm not super creative and I don't really do all the goal setting/reflection stuff. There aren't enough bond pages for me. I just really like to write lists and this planner isn't set up great for that. I'm considering going back to a Franklin Planner. I used to use them religiously, but haven't used one in about 15 years. I miss having a full page for each day of the week to write whatever I need/want.

69 seems like the magic death age for so many actors and musicians this year. My own father is 69 and recently underwent a triple bypass. 😢 So glad we still have him.
