  1. Well I bought those last summer, and I don't see exactly the same style on the ON website now. But they do have a ton of cute dresses. I'll have to stock up again now that it's summer here again (93 today! 😳) This is similar, although I prefer a waist. http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=91406&vid=1&pid=505054022 They don't have the same skirts, either, but they are basically this fold over waist knit skirt. So comfy! I have three different colors and basically just wear cute tshirts with them. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00WV4EG6M/ref=mp_s_a_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1489555255&sr=1-23&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65
  2. I live in Phoenix where it is deathly hot for months and months, and I wear knit dresses over Capri length leggings or tshirts with knit knee length skirts all summer. (And all winter...just changed the length of my leggings and added a sweater. 😀) I got a bunch at Old Navy last summer.
  3. We did a tadpole once. We followed all the instructions and waited and waited. After weeks and weeks it never turned into anything, and then it died. Since then? Nope
  4. I don't know if it's unusual, but I had the worst cramps of my life when I was a teen. I haven't suffered too much in my 20's and 30's. But I have a lot of memories of my mother rubbing my feet while I curled up in a ball of pain on my bed. And one particularly awful time on a family trip at Waterton Lakes when I was 14. My cramps were so bad that the whole family was delayed in doing whatever activity we had planned that morning while I writhed in pain for a couple of hours. Good times. I put some Motrin in DD's period kit, but she hasn't needed it yet. She's just getting started, though.
  5. I was super embarrassed, too. But I know people who do something special like go out to lunch with the aunts, cousins/sisters of the family. I made my daughter a gift bag with different kinds of pads and pantyliners, chocolate kisses, and Advil. Making her a backpack kit with extra undies and such is a great idea!
  6. As a music instructor I will tell you that the teacher probably understands already her limitations and would encourage you to pursue the course that will best help your child to pursue their goals. We understand that no matter how wonderful the relationship is that everybody benefits from a change in perspective and a fresh approach. Most teachers would want their student to move on after a while, I promise. I know it's really difficult to make the first move, but I bet it will end up being easier than you think. Good luck!
  7. Yes, this is important. I remember looking at my infant daughter lying in her crib with her perfect newborn pancreas and crying buckets over my older daughter's dying one. 😢😢😢 But nobody's body stays perfect forever. We're all collecting battle scars, and that perfect newborn now has Celiac disease. Grieve, process, and get back to the business of living, however that looks now.
  8. Kentuckymom, you have all my sympathy!!! I am so sad for your sweet DD. It is so hard at first, but you already sound like you are making the best of it! She is going to be tough and learn a lot about discipline and taking good care of herself! My oldest DD was 6 when she was diagnosed, and I remember being so overwhelmed. I had a newborn at the time, and managing diabetes felt like having another newborn all over again...all the supplies, strict feeding schedule, just leaving the house was so tricky. But you get used to it so fast. Something simple that helped me right off the bat when we got home from the hospital was just getting the supplies organized, getting a sharps container going (aka empty laundry detergent bottle). I'm not a super organized person, but having the diabetes stuff organized helped me feel in control. In reality, though, we are never in control. I went through a period of taking every blood sugar reading so personally...as though because I was the one controlling everything she ate, I should be able to control all the numbers. And when I couldn't and they were high I beat myself up for it. Letting go of control is hard. Now DD is 14 and we are facing the adolescent issues of hormones messing up the numbers and trying to negotiate the peaceful transfer of power from mostly us to mostly her...with lots of blood sugar checks and bolusing falling through the cracks and a crappy A1C. But you just keep doing it. You just keep doing your best. Keeping up those endo appointments every three months and readjusting. There really is no better time to have diabetes than now. Even a little over 100 years ago the prognosis for our children would have been grim. Hang in there, you have got this!!
  9. I'm pretty sure In n Out fries are safe, too. Their frier only fries french fries. DD has Celiac and loves chicken nuggets. The premade GF ones are so expensive. You can buy GF bread crumbs, but she really likes the ones I make by breading chicken tenders in almond flour mixed with a little paprika and salt. Super easy.
  10. Whenever I get that it's late at night and I take it as a sign I should just go to bed. 😜
  11. We have an adorable new puppy, about 11 weeks old. She's the sweetest thing, and we all love her. Even I am in love with her, and I have never been an animal person or interested in dogs at all. So this week she developed all these bumps on the top of her head and crusty grossness all over the inside of her ears. She's super lethargic and just unwell. I got her to the vet on Friday, the day after I found the first few bumps and she started laying around and not eating. The diagnosis is puppy strangles, and she's on a twice daily antibiotic and once a day steroid. She's been getting the meds since Friday, so hopefully they are working. But in the meantime her ears just look so painful and icky, and it's started to spread around her eye and chin. Is there anything I can do topically to give her some relief? Anyone been through this? I just feel so bad for poor little Lola!
  12. I just got one for my birthday. I love it! I don't use it to help me go to sleep, but it definitely works to spread a nice scent.
  13. Our library has something like that. They call them Brain Boxes. I checked them out a few times like 10 years ago when my older kids were little. I don't remember exactly what was in them.
  14. I say do it!! That sounds like a great compromise seeing as you feel pretty good about the school for your older kids. It will be a change of dynamic for you and definitely relieve some of your stress. You can totally do Pre K and K with a baby...that's mostly just reading together and going to the park and other fun field trips! My two at home are girls, best friends, and I love it.
  15. Awesome! We spent a week there on our honeymoon. Stratford Upon Avon was a nice day trip. I also really enjoyed a concert at the Church of St. Martin in the Fields.
  16. Mine comes every other week for 3 hours. She thoroughly cleans both bathrooms and spruces up my bedroom. She also mops my acres of tile floors, dusts, and vacuums rugs and furniture. When she has extra time she will do odd jobs like clean windows or clean out the microwave, or dust my large grand piano, ceiling fans, etc. The house looks so good when she leaves! Except for the kid rooms...they are on their own!
  17. Congratulations!!! Don't feel guilty. Mine comes for three hours every other Friday and just knowing she's coming has improved my mental health so much! I make the kids clean some in between, but at least I know every two weeks we are going to have to pick up our crap and we'll get a clean house. (For like 48 hours. 😃) At first I felt guilty, but you know what I'm doing during those three hours? Teaching my kids, organizing and cleaning in other parts of the house, or working on my personal to do list. Today I just sat and read a book and felt a teeny tiny bit guilty. But, really, it's one of the best decisions I ever made. You should stick with it!
  18. I shop there religiously every Wednesday. I love Trader Joe's, too, but I don't have time to go to more than one place. Sprouts has a better GF selection and cheaper produce with a better selection. TJ's has better flowers.
  19. It will be worth it if you can finally get some answers! It was such a relief to finally know how to help My kids feel better instead of playing hit and miss. Getting blood work done isn't that big a deal, and even having the scope done wasn't too hard on my kids.
  20. Yes. Just do this. There are so many possibilities and a GI is the best person to help you sort it out. My DD8 struggled with vague stomach pain for years before she finally got a Celiac diagnosis. My DS 11 had a more specific kind of pain that would come and go, along with some bowel symptoms. So he got scoped when the whole family was getting checked for Celiac and it turned out his body doesn't make enough sucrase enzyme to digest sucrose. Now that he's off sugar he is fine. There's no way we would ever have figured that out on our own.
  21. Get organized! I really wish I could go back in time and just declutter a whole bunch before my oldest was born so that we started off streamlined before we added kid stuff to the mix. Because after kids it's only gotten worse. Maybe you are naturally organized. Alas, I am not.
  22. I think that's pretty funny! I could see myself doing that.
  23. That was my mother in law! I've got plenty where that came from! She is also known for her completely inappropriate birthday cards. I am not sure if she even looks at them or not when purchasing or signing them. My all time favorite is one she sent to DH like 10 years ago. On the front is a picture of a hot guy running on the beach. And on the inside it says, "It's your birthday. You may as well get what you want." Seriously. For reals. She sent that to her heterosexual son on his birthday. My youngest DD turned 6 last Friday. The card she sent her had a picture of a vintagey looking housewife holding a bucket with the caption: "First thing on my bucket list is to fill the bucket with wine." Inside: "Put fun on your birthday list." I am 100% not making this up. 😂😂😂 but also 😳😳😳
