  1. Yay!! Thank goodness for handy hubbies - that saved you a nice plumbing bill :-)
  2. I read the book "How to Hug a Porcupine" It gave suggestions on how to understand why the 'prickly' people in your life are the way they are & ways to understand that we can't change them - just the way we react to them. I helped me with my MIL. HTH
  3. just wondering if you fixed it?? :001_smile:
  4. I agree that in early Sept. the crowds should be smaller. My only possible downer for you is that usually on their off-peak times they refurbish rides & they are closed. Not many at a time, but that's always a possibility. When we went, they were cleaning the car/race track ride (can't remember the name right now) that was a big bummer. Have a great trip!!
  5. Do you have a dishwasher? If you do, try running a load in it. We had a clog last week, while my hubby was out of town. I didn't want to pay for a plumber, AND I had a full dishwasher, so I tried that. Sometimes when our dishwasher runs, we get a little water backing up in the sink - so I thought that maybe the water from the dishwasher would push whatever was stuck back through the pipe. During the wash, I heard a loud gurgling & sure enough, the clog came loose! Not very scientific, but it's worth a try :tongue_smilie:.
  6. We always gave little gifts instead of money. I've got girls, so it might be a lipsmacker tube or a little bottle of nail polish or a fancy bookmark from Barnes & Noble or a strip of stickers. Only 1 item per tooth though. Money doesn't mean too much to our kiddos (not sure if that's bad or good), so the trinkets were always a hit.
  7. I haven't used soap for about 8 years - just warm water & washcloth. I moisturize daily & nightly. Blemishes occur only around my cycle & are very small - usually by my hairline only.
  8. I'm 39 and my middle name is Jeanne (pronounce Jean) - nice to see another person w/it too. I don't think that spelling is very common.
  9. Yay! Decision made! Give it a few weeks & let us know what you think....not that you can change your mind then anyway :tongue_smilie:.
  10. My daughter had to be on antibiotics for a week because her ears got so infected. We have figured out that we need to use only 14K gold too. Even the ones for sensitive ears or hypoallergenic do not work for her.
  11. Refrigerators with the freezer on either the bottom or top are the most efficient. Bottom freezer models use approximately 16 percent less energy than side-by-side models and top freezer models use about 13 percent less than side-by-side. Through-the-door icemakers and water dispensers are convenient and reduce the need to open the door, which helps maintain a more constant temperature; however, these convenient items will increase your refrigerator's energy use by 14 to 20 percent. This info was taken off a website that explains energy usage/choices in the home
  12. Like the poster a couple above this one - I was going to recommend the Peabody too. Much quicker than other tests - done orally. This might make your child feel more comfortable - being able to talk 'to' the tester. Good luck :)
  13. As if you need another reply w/ freezer on the bottom......but, here I am anyway :tongue_smilie: We have a single door on top & freezer on the bottom. LOVE IT! It's an LG brand - I'd recommend it to anyone. Good luck shopping :)
  14. We have the Weber grill that is gas ignited charcoal. So.....you light the charcoal using the gas igniter. We keep the flame lit for about 15 min. & then let the charcoals burn on their own for about 20 - the best of both worlds. Ease & taste!!
  15. http://us.penguingroup.com/static/html/romance/sachetsgreengables.html We just watched the Continuing Story last night :) Here is a craft idea that I found online....just follow the link. HTH - Have fun!
  16. We freeze most of our things in gallon ziplocs - we freeze them laying down & stack them up like books on a shelf when they're frozen.
  17. Our Half-Price Books store also pays up front. Not much, but at least it's something. You can always use that $ to re-supply your shelves once you're settled again :-)
  18. My dd (10) has read them all - I believe there are 19 of them or so. She loved them & will read any more that may come out. The other series that she read - while reading the Warriors series - is the Guardians of Ga'Hoole. That series is about owls. If you asked her, she would surely recommend both :-)
  19. I believe one book is an index - and the set has been revised as well.
  20. I believe Rainbow Resource also has the study guides for each book. I think they're about $16 per guide. Has anyone used these?
  21. It works great if you take the workbook to a copy shop & have them cut off the binding & 3-hole punch it for you. At our local printers it costs about $5.00 to do that. Put it all in a 3-ring binder & it's really easy to use :).
  22. I would buy a worktext for each of your chilren. This program has worked great for us & my dd has written in her workbooks for the exercises & on reg. paper for her 'assignments'. HTH
  23. I thought about 'beefing up' the 3/4 - by using History of US and adding in the core 100 readers. That seems like it would be a good mix. Would you recommend purchasing 3/4 from Sonlight or just piecing it together myself. We're really eclectic in all of our other curric., but I thought it might be nice to have a ready-made plan done for me (for once). :) It just seems kind of spendy when I look at it as a whole. Even buying the teacher's guide alone is crazy $. Thanks again, ladies. You'd think that w/ 6 years under our belts I wouldn't feel so clueless about taking the next step :-)
  24. I guess I have lots to think about this summer as I plan for History - I need to look into both of your suggestions. Thank you! I really hope that I'll be able to pick a plan & be HAPPY with what I pick. My girls are really easy to please, so that isn't an issue. Too many options isn't always a good/easy thing :-)
  25. I have never used Sonlight before, but I am interested in starting The History of US next year w/ my 4th & 6th gr. dds. I have heard that the Core 100 is difficult & geared more toward 7th grade - but the History of US can be used w/ ages 9 & up. Would I be smart just to make up my own curric. w/ The History of US - or get the Core 100 & go slow? Or....?? Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks all - this is my first post, but I've been lurking for awhile. There seem to be plenty of wise members to gleen from :-)
