  1. Has he considered NDSU (North Dakota)? Very reasonable tuition and several engineering options. I know there was a big focus on nanotechnology years ago, not sure if that’s just for an advanced degree? Worth a look maybe?
  2. I like the size of the SE because it's smaller than the newer ones. My favorite size was the 4, but it was thicker. Make sure you can still get a good case (probably Amazon). I had trouble finding a replacement case for my 4S since it was pretty much obsolete. I've upgraded since, but miss the small size!
  3. Look up CVS - cyclic vomiting syndrome. It may fit with what he's experiencing?
  4. Yes, we had to do the 128 also - 32 will fill up way too fast with pics/videos/music/apps.
  5. Here is my go-to. I found it when searching for a no-fail molasses cookie recipe. It's from Betty Crocker & works every time! Sorry about the weird formatting - that's what I get for trying to copy & paste. 1cup packed brown sugar 3/4cup shortening 1/4cup molasses 1egg 2 1/4cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour 2teaspoons baking soda 1teaspoon ground cinnamon 1teaspoon ground ginger 1/2teaspoon ground cloves 1/4teaspoon salt 3tablespoons granulated sugar Heat oven to 325°F. In large bowl, beat brown sugar, shortening, molasses and egg with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in remaining ingredients except granulated sugar. Shape dough by rounded tablespoonfuls into 1 1/2-inch balls. Dip tops into granulated sugar. On ungreased cookie sheet, place balls, sugared sides up, about 2 inches apart. Bake 13 to 16 minutes or just until set and cookies appear dry. Immediately remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack.
  6. Both of our kids have the SE and love it. They've had them for about 1 1/2 years.
  7. We used Apologia for Biology in 9th grade, and Chemistry in 11th. We listed the Apologia text book, chapter/module titles, and a detailed course description.
  8. It’s like banging your head against a brick wall....
  9. Has anyone ever wanted to like a post, but there is no ‘like checkmark’ on their posts? From my phone - not sure about an actual computer. What’s up with that?
  10. When our dds toured colleges, it was good for them to see what they liked, what they hated, what were absolute musts, what wasn’t a big deal, etc. Even schools they really disliked made them more aware of what was important to them.
  11. I think that those women would NOT say they deserved a better judge. I hope that they are satisfied (as much as they could be in this situation) and feel that she said exactly what they needed to hear.
  12. My favorite are the lemon filled powdered sugar donuts. Ok, now I want one tomorrow morning!
  13. This man had tens of thousands of pictures of child pornography. This man sexually abused more than 150 girls for YEARS. And you choose to complain about how a judge spoke frankly and harshly to this criminal??? That it was inappropriate??? Come on....if that is your argument, then there are levels of inappropriate behavior here and hers doesn't even register on the radar compared to his.
  14. I agree with the above poster about having a physician who could help you with medicines that may balance the chemicals in your brain? You’re definitely not weird!!!! It’s good to be able to ask questions about what you’re going through.
  15. https://www.denverpost.com/2013/12/23/columbine-parent-how-do-we-stop-the-next-school-shooting/ This article is old, but very good.
  16. Even with MSU's president's resignation she can't admit her part in this. She admits that she heard about a physician sexually abusing female athletes, but never received a report on her desk, so she never followed up. How is that ok??? A president hears about a crime happening, but because she doesn't get an official report she just lets it go???? Disgusting.
  17. The extended family does not want to take these children in. I hope that there is hope for some sort of healing in the future for all of them. Heartbreaking!
  18. When I initially asked started this thread, I thought that more people would be in favor of metal detectors. The psychological assurance (IMO), plus the chance that they might deter a would-be shooter, was where my thinking was. I am surprised at the responses here, but my eyes have been opened to other ways of thinking. Thank you for keeping the conversation civil!!
  19. Decide how much you can realistically afford and start doing research on schools in geographic areas that she is interested in. Get a long list of possible colleges going and do as many 'virtual tours' online to weed out any that don't look like a fit & cross those off.
  20. I don't have school-age children at home, our youngest is a freshman in college this year. But I just want these shootings to stop. I am heartbroken for those families that lose children to violence. I don't know the answer, but I just don't believe that enough is being done to prevent school shootings. I was thinking out loud.....
  21. Humor me here. Dh and I were talking over dinner tonight about school shootings, both past and present. Knowing that shootings CAN happen in any school, and knowing that schools aren't doing much (if anything) to prevent them - can parents of an injured/killed child sue the school for not taking serious preventative measures to protect the students? What is it going to take to get a metal detector in every school? What is it going to take to do bag searches or something? I feel like when a shooting happens somewhere in our country....the country is in shock and is sad....and after a few days, life goes back to normal with no REAL steps being taken to prevent it from happening somewhere else? I know you can't stop all violent crime in America, but school shootings seem, to me, to be something that we (as a country) could do something about?? Am I naive? Unrealistic? Do we just HOPE that it doesn't happen in our town? I don't know, this is kind of 'word vomit'...I just want real prevention.
