My 3rd grader is in a Classical Christian school right now and they are using Song School Latin this year. She seems to really be enjoying that so I'd like to continue Latin next year when I bring her home to home school. I know there is a SSL 2, but if it is up to me to teach everything, I know it won't get done (already tried Song School Spanish last year, it was a flop lol) so I'm considering Latin for Children. Is it a "stand alone" program or is SSL 2 a pre-requisite?

I know that BJU and Abeka both have online and DVD distance learning, but can anyone tell me of other Christian distance learning that is online? I know that Veritas Press has the Self-Paced courses along with some online classes... But what else is out there? It'd be a plus if it's Reformed theologically. Thanks! :) Oh, and next year my kids will be in 2nd and 4th grade.

So I homeschooled my daughter for K, 1st, and half of 2nd, then we put her in a private classical Christian school. We did that because we were having major behavioral issues and school did seem to help. I loved the school so much and we thought we'd be able to spring it financially, but we just can't. Back to homeschooling we go. She's doing SO much better now and I think it will be a good year. Can you guys look over what I have planned and tell me if I'm forgetting something? Math - Singapore 2B/3A. She takes a long time to grasp concepts so I'm backing up a bit. Also, Rocket Math (timed fact drills daily) LA - The Good and the Beautiful Level 2. It's supposed to cover phonics, reading, grammar, poetry, art, writing, etc. Cursive - A Reason for Handwriting C History - The Good and the Beautiful. Both she and my 1st grader will be doing this together. I'll add a few readers and picture books to go with each time period. Art - Artistic Pursuits 2? Maybe? Science - Going to try TGATB Science, as well, the insect unit, along with the Nature Notebook. Maybe a few books from A Mind in the Light booklist. Literature - I'm... not sure yet. Ill probably just pick a few from several homeschool curricula for read alouds and also maybe a couple books for her to read. (She's getting better but still not totally fluent yet.... Like, she won't just sit down and read a chapter book). Ill just have her narrate but that's really it. There's also soccer in the fall and spring and a homeschool sports day every other Friday here that I plan on signing her up for. So, am I ruining her? Lol! ETA: Oh, forgot... So I just decided to homeschool my daughter who was in Classical private school in Spring of this year. We just can't afford to send her there anymore. She was using Math in Focus 2 there but was a bit behind. I was just going to continue using Math in Focus 3 for this coming year, but I noticed they jump right into Multiplication of 6, 7, and 8.... and the earlier multiplication had already been covered in Grade 2. She does not know any multiplication facts at all and Im not sure what her teacher went over with her last year. So... My question is, should I just get MiF 2B textbook and workbook and just quickly go through that and go over multiplication and other things she's weak in (she's not very strong in math, never has been)? Or could I use the MiF 2 Reteach book? Im not even very sure of what that is, can't find many samples online....

Yes, she's doing fine with Singapore, she seems to catch on to math a lot easier than my first did. I'm just afraid that I'M going have trouble teaching it. All of the regrouping and fractions and long division, etc. I have trouble explaining math as it is lol. I also like that CLE is pretty much taught to the student starting in 2nd grade. Coincidentally, I picked up a Math in focus 1B textbook at the thrift store for $1 several months ago so I've been flipping through it. Question, for those who are familiar with it, why does the 1B textbook have the student working from Workbook A and B? I can't decide if I want to stay with Singapore math or switch to CLE math with my upcoming 1st grader (6.5 yrs old). She's already finished Singapore 1A during her K year and it was pretty easy for her. I was going to just start her on 1B over the summer but then I have heard that Singapore math gets harder to teach as you move up the levels. So I thought maybe I'd switch to CLE math because I've used it before with my other kid and it seemed to be easy to teach, plus I like the spiral aspect. But I dont know if I want to switch now and just maybe start at lesson 40 or so, or just finish Singapore 1B then go into CLE math 2. I know their scope and sequence are a bit different. Or maybe just stay with Singapore. What would you do?

So my 8 year old was homeschooled up until January of this year when it just wasn't working for us at all. I've posted about it here in other threads. Anyways, she's been in a great private classical Christian school and has been doing...ok. But she is failing grammar. They use Shurley English and they have already gone over all the parts of speech and all that and she's having a lot of trouble keeping up with it all. Before she started at this school we hadn't been doing grammar apart from copywork because I wasn't planning on starting it until 3rd or 4th grade. But she has been screened for dyslexia and has low working memory which I'm sure plays into it. I really want to get her caught up over the summer before she starts 3rd grade there. I also have a unibrow and one of my daughter's seems to have inherited it, poor thing, lol. She's only 6 so she hasn't noticed it yet but when she becomes self conscious of it I'll just take her to get it waxed occasionally.

I only have 4 but I also have them on the younger side. My 8 year old was driving me CRAZY so I put her in ps in January then we found a private Classical school to put her in while I took a breather and got my sanity back. Honestly, I love the classical school, but I'm already so over all the homework that's assigned every night and I'm already tired of the drop off and pick up (that's right in the middle of my toddler's nap). We were going to put her in the school again for 3rd next year but now I'm having second thoughts. I just don't know what to do. Reader411, I agree that she's doing much better at the school. I think the strict schedule is good for her and having healthy competition with her peers helps. It's good for my other kids to have a relaxed break away from her (I really hate putting it that way, but it's true). She never admits to being wrong about anything. She has zero empathy. I've never heard her day she is sorry, on her own accord, to anyone. Even if I wait until a calm peaceful time to talk about a situation, she just shuts down, gets offended and mad. We are praying about the evaluation. I have an appt set up with a child psychologist next Monday to explain what's been happening and she said she can help me with where to go from here. I'm filling out the public school paperwork but other than the academic portion I just don't think her teacher can fill it out properly. She's only been going there for a month, and like I said before, she acts fine at school. Quiet and shy, but not oppositional or defiant at all.
