  1. Quiet time is an essential part of our day too - even on weekends. I strongly believe that the kids need it and that it is building a good habit of learning how to be alone and take time to oneself. We don't manage 2 hours - just 1.5 hours - and even at that I've had people look at me like I have 3 heads because I make my kids play in their rooms for that long! My 4yo isn't so good at it....Right now he does about 45 min in his room and 45 min playing in the main part of the house, but still independently. My 8yo has some independent school work to do during that time and my 6yo is a real "dreamer" and the time flies by for her :) I highly recommend to everyone I know that homeschools.
  2. Thanks for the positive review of Click N Read :) I have a 6yo dd who really needs some more phonics review to cement those letter sounds. This may be the right program for her.
  3. Yes - these late nights are going to kill me but I went back for more and was able to get through without any issues. This time I got: Algebra Readiness Made Easy - Gr 1, Gr 2 and Gr 3 Quick Practice Writing Skills K-1 and 2-3 Mental Math Kids Can't Resist Play and Learn Language Arts Bingo Fast Facts: Addition and Subtraction Speedy Math Practice: Multiplication and Division
  4. I've been having a hard time tonight too. Last night late worked really, really well so I'm not sure what's going on...
  5. It's the first time I've ordered but I've seen it a couple of times before. I really hope it's regular because I'm limiting myself to what I'll use right now.
  6. Staying up late worked for me - beautifully - no complaints at all. For my PreK, Gr 1 and Gr 3 students I got: Pre-Writing Practice Pages Mother Goose Math Mother Goose Phonics Easy Make and Learn Projects: Penguins Follow the Directions and Learn All About Me Write and Read Books Grammar Cop Vocabulary Word of the Day I think I'll go back later to look for more Math resources (dh's specialty so I want to get him in on that one as he is the "math teacher") and Writing resources for my 8yo - we're using WWE but I'd like to add in some other writing instruction for her. The Vocab book does have some great prompts in it though that directly connect to the vocab - I'm really excited about that resource in particular! I'll be working it into her journal time - once a week it is free writing and once a week it is in response to a given topic. Good luck to everyone else! Oh - and the coupon worked for me too....soo all those books were FREE!
  7. We've used Headsprout and Starfall. I just saw ClickNRead through Homeschool Buyers Coop and wondered about it as well.
  8. I'm going to try again at a later time when there will hopefully be less traffic.
  9. Did the coupon still work? What is the code? I have a lot of things I want to get because we are really lacking in the "fun" dept this year.
  10. I'll have to check out bellasara for my two horse-loving girls.
  11. My list is growing...... I've not had too much trouble with the site as far as perusing all the options but I've not yet attempted to add anything to my cart. I'm looking for things to keep ds 4yo busy - things he can do fairly independently. I'll definitely get the pre-writing practice pages and maybe the Follow the Directions and Learn. Anything in PreK is fair game, really. I'm also going to get the Mother Goose Math and Phonics books as we're going through our Mother Goose treasury this year in Morning Meeting. I'm using WWE with dd 8yo and would like to supplement it with some other writing instruction so I'll be looking for that for the gr 3 level and likely some of the proofreading practice and other LA books. I'm really, really glad that this sale came along.
  12. Feeling pretty tempted by this program....I had looked at AAR but it looked a little behind what dd is already able to do. She's not strong phonetically so I would like something to reinforce that and am not sure if ETC and then AAS will be enough. I wonder if it's something I could do with my dd 6yo and my ds 4yo together?
  13. Not working well for me either...let's hope it's just that it's being flooded and will be better tomorrow or later in the week.
  14. Yay!!! Off to look...I'm really hoping that some of the things I had my eye on are on sale :)
  15. Do you think it's reasonable for kids to have daily computer time as part of their education? I'd like my 8yo to start typing instruction this year and she also has the Singapore math CD-Rom. Right there is probably 4 days a week and then I had considered adding BrainPop (although to be honest that has more to do with hearing about it on here than actually understanding what makes it so great :tongue_smilie:) Then my 6yo uses Headsprout for reading - 3 days a week, ideally. She also has a CD-Rom from Singapore and would enjoy a chance to hang out at Starfall or some other such "fun" site. Of course, 4yo ds then wants on the computer just like his big sisters. And, to be honest, I could the activity to keep him busy!! Does it seem reasonable for kids at these ages to have 20-30 min of daily computer time?
  16. Age 8?! I have a dd age 8yo and at gymnastics today I thought she looked like she could use a training bra but was hoping it was my imagination..... :( I'm not ready either...although, she's 3rd grade and I started menstruating in 4th grade so I guess I shouldn't be totally surprised? I hated being that "developed early" girl though. Thank God she's at home.
  17. I don't know about HOD but it's my understanding that SL doesn't have a lot of worksheets as a matter of philosophy of education so my guess is that they would not be interested. You could always post about them on the SL forums....They do have worksheets for LA and Science but not for the core.
  18. Okay - so this one showed up in my CP but the other threads I've commented on/started are not...weird!
  19. I'm not sure why I'm not getting any notification of subscribed threads on my User CP. I've changed my preference to "no email notification" but I"m still not getting any listing of threads. Help?
  20. Just a quick intro - just joined the Hive this evening :) I've been lurking for a while and the honey here is good, so I'm here to stay. I'm hs'ing 3 kids - dd 8yo, dd 6yo and ds 4yo. I'm not full-blown TWTM but there is a lot about classical education that appeals to me and I try to incorporate some of the methodology with a bit of a Charlotte Mason bent. We primarily use SL for our core studies but I also enjoy WWE and SOTW audios. We are using Telling God's Story this year as well. I'm appreciating reading about new ideas and approaches that come from TWTM and the Hive.
  21. Beautiful! And timely - we moved in July and are in the midst of deciding what colour to paint our bedroom, which is currently a very light off-white colour with a floral wallpaper border ;) We are down to a blue-grey shade or a colour that seems very similar to what you went with - a dark grey-brown from CIL called Grey Tweed. What you achieved is exactly what I'm hoping for - warm and inviting and peaceful. We've never gone so dark before though so I've been nervous! Looks like it will be the right choice. :)
