  1. For my 1st grader, we are doing Saxon and Singapore for enrichment. She is really enjoying it! She actually did 96 pgs of Singapore in 3 days, just for fun:hurray:
  2. Just finished posting mine! This was our first week back. I actually have two posts, one for ds's Adventure's In My Father's World and a post for my dd's My Father's World First Grade. We did alot, but it really didn't seem like it!:001_smile:
  3. I posted photos of the kiddos on their first day of school (Monday) Can't believe how fast they are growing!!;)
  4. When my ds was 3 we would play a game. I'd say A /a/ /a/ /a/ Apple, B /b/ /b/ /b/ Ball and so on thru the alphabet. Then when he had those memorized I'd quiz him and say...What says /a/ /a/ /a/ Apple, and he'd say A and I'd show him a letter A and trace it with his finger. Shortly before he turned 4 he taught himself to read without me knowing. He just picked up books and read them. By first grade, I had him tested and he was reading around 7th grade level. I have read aloud to him since he was a baby so I'm sure that helped too.
  5. That was my thought at one time, but when WWE came out I decided to stick with it and do the FLL/WWE combo thru 4th. IMO, WWE is not to be missed. So if nothing new comes out by the time my dc are in 5th, I'll more that likely go to R&S grammar with CW.
  6. My dc loved all of Kate DiCamillo's books are read alouds the past two years.
  7. You might want to check out Donna Young's site. She has free printable pre writing sheets you can print out. Practice drawing lines/circles/etc hope this link works... http://www.donnayoung.org/penmanship/beginning-manuscript.htm HTH:001_smile:
  8. Look at MFW, the major spines are Victor's Journey Through the Bible, Usborne's Ancient World, Biblical Feasts and Streams of Civiliation. I think there's outlining scheduled. When I get to this I plan to incorporate all the recommended literature from the WTM. Talk to Cadam, she can tell you in detail about this year in MFW:001_smile:
  9. I'll play this week!! www.cornerstoneclassicalschool.blogspot.com :001_smile:
  10. My DC adore A Reason For Handwriting. They love to pick our their own writing pages, copy their verse and color the page!:001_smile:
  11. I'm using Singapore a grade level down for supplement and the kiddos are loving it! My dd (6) begged to work ahead and see did 96 pages in 3 days
  12. I don't have one for this week, but I have been pretty good about posting our "summer" activities as a weekly report all thoerought out the summer! www.cornerstoneclassicalschool.blogspot.com
  13. Thank you for posting this, can't wait to find out more!:001_smile:
  14. That was good! I'm teaching a hs curriculum class at the end of the month, I'll have to read that to the ladies!!;)
  15. I got mine last week to (in NC also), but I ordered a testing booklet from them and it was included in the shipment. HTH:001_smile:
  16. The obvious is that the new edition will include SWB new writing program, and FLL 1-4, someone on the board said they heard that Classical Writing was also a new recommendation...
  17. Look at My Father's World. It is an all in one for first grade, then there after in grades 2-12 you can go with their recs across the board, or you can choose your own Math and LA. MFW has Charlotte Mason and Classical philosophies. My Father's World
  18. I start planning after the first of the year, and decide what we will be doing. Then I make a shopping list. I take it with me to my local homeschool convention the end of May, buy as much as I can there, then after I get back, I order online anything I couldn't find at the convention. I do have a used hs store close by...I go there every couple of weeks all thru the year and if I see anything for the future I buy it cheap!
  19. Oh, how I know how you feel. Sometimes, I think I need to quit reading this board because of the same reasons, but atlas, it's an addiction that I just can't beat! I also don't want to spend ALL my time on history. MFW is very doable! and I feel like that MFW doesn't compete with other subjects, it's very balanced. I am a "scripted" "do it all for me already" "open and go" person, so I love the MFW and TM. As for science, some say that MFW science is "light" in the earlier years, but it isn't if you truely have a CM philosophy. BUT on the flip side, if you are like me and have a more WTM bent, I actually like MFW science because it is easy to beef up the science. In MFW, Fridays are light due to doing Nature Study/Walk a la CM. Since we don't do nature walks that actually gives extra time to do science on Friday to add in a science program, because my dc enjoy science so much. I feel like that the only way to know if TOG or MFW is going to fit your family, is that you are going to have to REALLY look at ALL aspects of the two programs, pray, and even try to get your hands on both and see for yourself. We all have "favorites" and can talk them up, but that doesn't mean it will be a good fit for you personally! KWIM??;)
