  1. OK Now I am going to sound really dumb, is there a 7th and 8th grade add on package for all the years?? :blushing: I just assumed based on the one for ECC but now I just looked at CtG and I do not see one listed (then again, given the day I have had I could have missed it.)

Oh I think I need to make it an early night tonight.. I am losing it :001_huh:

Haha! No you don't sound dumb. You are right. ECC has a supplement for 7&8 grade. CtG and RtR has no supp for 2nd&3rd, or 7&8th. Exploration to 1850 and 1850 to Modern has the supp for 2nd and 3rd.

  2. I agree, starting with FLL3 would be a great place to start. It builds on what a student would have learned in FLL 1 and 2. The only thing that is suggested by Jesse Wise is to purchase the accompanying CD that goes with FLL 1 and 2, this will help your student put into memory all definitions of parts of speech, and list of prepositions, pronouns, state of being verbs, helping verbs, articles, and conjunctions. Memorizing these things was an important part of the previous years.

I like the looks of ECC because it allows for bringing in other books, sources, etc. from the library and I'm there once a week so not an issue. What I don't want is to be doing the same thing, different country each week. I'm concerned that its focus is on labeling, labeling, labeling and I want my kids to know where the countries are located but they don't have to memorize them. I want them to know about them and what they do or don't have but they don't need to draw a map of the world and fill it all in.

We are doing ECC this year. I don't think it's redundant at all. Playing the geography game is scheduled only twice a week. I'm not requiring them to memorize the countries this time around, but probably will the next time in 8th grade. I have omitted the countries pre-test and post-test but will require it in 8th. We only fill in the world map as we "enter" the next continent we will begin studying and we only label the countries of each continent the week we start the new continent. Using World Atlas, Illustrated World Atlas, World Geography, and A Trip Around the World, Another Trip Around the World , and Maps and Globes, gives a variety of information that is not repetitive. Using these spines and book basket(literature) makes this a rich program IMO.

Bottomline - I want them to think about the world they live in - not just their own little city/state and but about others.

My DC are definitely thinking about the world they live in as a result of ECC. They are exposed each countries language, currency, food, art, music, animals, and ecosystems, but most importantly they are learning about the countries religion, and being able to get out of their own little world and pray for the peoples of each country; their spiritual needs, and praying specifically how God can move on their behalf, and how we can help to further the Gospel.

  4. I'm a Paleo enthusiast! And a certified personal trainer. I would not suggest adding "good" fats to your diet, as in adding it by supplementation, it doesn't work that way. You have to be careful that your whole nutrition plan is spot on.

You should consume good fats. Yes, coconut oil, olive oil, are good. Optimal fats from protein are organic GRASS FED, FREE Range meats. You can get good fats from nuts and seeds, and veggies like avacados.

The best butter to consume is butter made from grass fed cows, and preferably from RAW milk. But there are only a few states that allow consumption of raw milk.

Grass fed is really important. Cows were made to consume grass not grain filled with foreign stuff in it.

I eat lots of meat (beef, bison, chicken, turkey, and fish)

    TONS of veggies

and the only fruit I consume are berries, and grapefruit, and occasionally an apple. I occasionally make buckwheat pancakes, and steel cut oats. Water and a Big variety of herbal teas (unsweetened)

I am very low carb also. I don't even eat dairy at all. If I need a "milk" it's unsweetened coconut or almond milk.
