  1. I'm so glad to hear this. :) We are doing Sonlight Core 3 starting in May and I wanted a few "lighter" books that my younger daughter might like too. Thanks for the replied.
  2. I'm interested in hearing some opinions about two series of history books I found. The "If You" series (like If You Live in Colonial Times, etc.) and the "You Wouldn't Want" series (like You Wouldn't Want to Sail on the Mayflower"). Are either of them any good? Are they just "twaddle" or do they actually provide history? Thanks,
  3. Not to hijack this thread at all, but I've been considering both the AG books and the Dear America books for mine. Does anyone know how the Dear America books are and if they are similar/better/worse than the AG books? Thanks,
  4. I wanted something for my kids to see both linear and also be able to be compact and easily storable. I couldn't find anything I really liked so I made my own: I bought about 10 sheets of posterboard and cut them in half longways. I bought binder rings and punched holes in on the one side and added the binder rings. Then I drew a line across the middle but I skipped every other page so the pages could be taken out and laid across the floor to really get that effect of a long time line. So basically when I open up the book to a timeline page, its on both side and is the length of two posterboards so about 5 feet across, or I can take them all out and lay them across our driveway or down the hallway, etc. :) Folded up its about 12 inches by 3 feet or so. We just go to google images and choose what we want to print out and paste to the timeline. It's turned out great.
  5. I feel like the odd one out here as so many people just love Time4Learning, but I did not, nor did either of my children. Even my 8 year old, whom I consider very bright, had a hard time figuring out how to do everything and where to go. I had hoped they could use this on days where I was busy with my business or sick, etc. but they needed my help so much it didn't help me at all in the way I was hoping. I wasn't happy that each lesson didn't "disappear" after they finished it either. They could log back in later and then have to figure out where they had left off but if they made a mistake, they'd go through the same lesson all over again. Maybe they (and I) were doing it wrong though, so not sure. I'm glad we tried it, but it just didn't work for us. I also think, as a core curriculum, they were really missing out on my one-on-one attention. Hope it helps,
  6. We've really enjoyed Just Write from EPS Books. Both of my children have fun with it. All-About-Spelling may be an option for you to check also. My kids hate it though, but it does work so we only do it once a week. I've recently just switched to LLATL and I adore it. I can't say too much though because I'm only 1 week in. :) Let me know if you have any specific questions I can answer. Good luck.
  7. I just bought Red and Yellow and they came from Rainbow Resource on Friday. Neither of mine are 3 hole punched. I took the student book to OfficeDepot and had them cut off the spine for me; was only 75cents. :)
  8. We're in Montverde. :) Close to Orlando. We just drove to Mt. Dora yesterday. Small world.
  9. Where do you buy these? I couldn't find anything on the link and couldn't find any stores with them. Thanks :)
  10. Ok... :) you asked for them. This one has both writing and handwriting links: http://www.sabine.k12.la.us/zes/writing/default.htm This one I love printing out their lined paper, you can choose the size, but they have lots of other options here too: http://www.handwritingforkids.com/handwrite/ Another: http://www.writingwizard.longcountdown.com/handwriting_practice_worksheet_maker.html I really like traceables and its all I've used for teaching handwriting and, now, cursive.
  11. I'm using this with my kids right now. It's wonderful. Then you can go back and create your own traceable pages with your own words, etc. once they have the strokes down. http://www.kidzone.ws/cursive/ Another that is good too (though better, imo, after you complete the kidzone one): http://www.enchantedlearning.com/letters/ I also have several other links for traceables. Let me know if you'd like them. HTH,
  12. You might like this site for resources also: http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/SOTWmenu.htm HTH,
  13. We've been using Just Write, GWG, FLL, ETC and AAS. Hope everyone knows the "codes". :) I just today looked at LLATL and went ahead and bought the red package and the yellow package. Can't wait to try it.
  14. I just recently received all 4 years of TOG classic from a friend. I, too, was worried about using it secularly, but I'm so pleasantly surprised that it looks like it will be a perfect fit. I'll need to edit a few things, rephrase certain questions and omit certain readings, but really, it looks like it will be perfect. I do similar with Apologia Zoology 2, so its not unfamiliar territory. HTH, Cynthia
  15. These forums are great. I run a web hosting business and I host quite a few of these. Vbulletin should work wonderfully for you. :) Cynthia
