  1. What movie making software and green screen and where from if you don't mind me asking? DD is into movie-making.
  2. We have Assurant. We just got a letter from them that our plan will not qualify under Obamacare and we can stay on it and pay tax penalty or find something else basically.
  3. Not the OP, but my DD just finished it too and I'd say she reads at a late third or early 4th grade level now. She scored a grade equivalent of 4.0 on the reading portion of the IOWA test which she took over the summer.
  4. I bought BFSU first and while I love the idea of it, I just didn't have the time or energy to figure out how to use it. I gave up on that pretty quickly and went with Real Science Odyssey from Pandia Press (they're having a 25% off sale right now, btw). I like their products and find them easy to implement. You can download generous samples of their products on the website to see if you like it. Also I don't know for sure if this is still the case, but you used to be able to get the Mr. Q Life Science for free on his website.
  5. I found this (Classic Birch Tabletop Writing Center) on the Lakeshore Learning site and I'm really drawn to it, but feel it is really expensive, even with a 20% off coupon. So I wondered if any of you have this, if you are happy with it, feel it's worth the money, etc.? Also, if anyone knows of a cheaper alternative please share! I'm primarily attracted to the paper storage, especially the spot for the large construction paper. http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/seo/p%7CJJ926~~.jsp
  6. Just an FYI, Pandia Press usually has a 25% off sale in September I think. So you may want to use the free sample and wait for the sale to buy.
  7. BlessedMomma, my situation is much like yours. Could not get little man to sleep til 11 last night , then was awake nursing from 5:30-7, slept til 9 and he woke me again. I'm tired. I find it very hard to get anything done and "me time" is a concept that has no relevance to my life. Wish I knew the answer, but you're not alone.
  8. I was trying to figure out when the sale ends too. I didn't see anything on the HSBC page.
  9. Would also love to see Bucolic's spreadsheet! We've been using Real Science Odyssey Life this year from Pandia Press and I like it. We will probably use their Earth and Space for next year.
  10. You don't sound like an awful person! Just worn out. I actually start getting sort of cranky every year as soon as Halloween is over and I don't feel better until January. I hate Christmas and I hate that I hate it.
  11. Ok, did you all actually see your discount price before or after you checked out? The discount never showed up for me. I have an order confirmation that says $145 something. ($16.95 shipping) I called and the woman said that when the orders are coming in to them they're seeing the discount price, but I'm still freaked. I sent an email that begged them to cancel my order if I'm going to be charged full price. See, I didnt know I had to enter a code somewhere to get the price. On the special Jill's deals page it just said that the discount would show up at checkout. I dont have tv, so I'm getting all my info on the net. We just got her McKenna for Christmas. I never would have bought another full price doll right now! ARRRGGGH! Maybe I should call again, but DD is up now and I don't want her to hear. What to do???
  12. I know this is an old thread, but I was very excited to see it because we're about a half hour from Steubenville and 45 minutes from Weirton. I would love to be a part of an active secular homeschool group, or even just to have more people for DD to have play dates with.
  13. This is a good idea, I had a similar reaction after eating soy nuts once.
  14. Necessary or not? If not, what do you use instead? Getting DD her first AG doll for Christmas probably. Thanks!
  15. The pictures sound stupid. And I agree that if you kill a deer you should eat it or find someone who will. However, around here we are so overrun with these things that hunting them is a valuable service whether you eat the meat or not. Better that than being killed by a vehicle and possibly harming some innocent driver, while certainly damaging their vehicle.
  16. We got DD an iPod touch for Christmas last year. She was almost 6. It was DH's idea. I was sort of against it, but went along with it and it's been ok. We seriously limit how much she can use it and where she can take it. Just make sure you get a really good case for it.
  17. We live in a rural area and the only homeschooling groups I've found are religiously based with the whole signing of a statement of faith and what-not. I am not religious, so those kind of groups make me uncomfortable. DD bowls in a bumper league once a week Oct through March and I signed her up for gymnastics in an effort for her to make friends, but like you mentioned, the girls are kept moving and need to focus on the activity at hand, so they don't really get to talk. I'm thinking of trying Girl Scouts and/or 4-H.
  18. We had the same problem trying to find early readers that were interesting and a little more advanced, but that didn't include lots of sight words. From a post here I found out about the Usborne Phonics Readers/Usborne Easy Words to Read books. They are cute and colorful, have fold out pages that DD liked, and don't include many (any?) sight words. Some titles are Fox on a Box, Frog on a Log, Ted in a Red Bed, Fat Cat on a Mat, Big Pig on a Dig, Shark in the Park, Sam Sheep Can't Sleep. I also second the Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems. They're more difficult than the Usborne and I honestly don't care for them, but DD loves them and has been picking them up and reading them on her own (a first for her!)
  19. Frosting/icing is way better than cake! Cake is merely a conveyance mechanism for the frosting. I like cake batter way more than cake and would rather eat a bowl of it with a spoon than eat a piece of cake. White cake/batter is my fave!
  20. Oh, and thanks to everyone for sharing my excitement!
  21. From RR, I got the AAS deluxe kit and AAS1, RS math card games kit, LoF Apples, Miquon lab sheet annos, 1st grade diary, and notes to teachers, Idea Book for Cuisenaire rods, Draw Write Now book 1, I Can Write coloring book, Ready for Writing, Ancient Egyptians and their Neighbors, Ancient Israelites and their Neighbors, and Story of the Orchestra. From Amazon, I got Magic School Bus the complete series, Liberty's kids the complete series, DK First Human Body Encyclopedia, Dover My First Body Book, DK First Nature Encyclopedia, 13 Artists Children Should Know, Music for Little Mozarts Deluxe Starter Kit, Exploring Ancient Egypt Fun Kit, Sum Swamp game, crayola dry erase markers, and to hopefully keep Hulk busy, the Melissa and Doug doorbell house. I can't wait for it all to arrive!
