  1. Well, after 14 years I am ready for a new chapter in my life and need to build a resume. Any advice for resume generators and your experiences in finding your passion after homeschooling> Thanks!
  2. Thank you for sharing. I am encouraged by your daughter's work ethic.
  3. I hope you will enjoy this article written by Janice Campbell the author of Excellence in Literature. Her husband is a machinist. http://www.janice-campbell.com/2007/11/13/apprenticeships-and-skilled-trades-offer-an-alternative-to-college/
  4. Saw this article how reading literary fiction improves social skill of "mind reading." http://phys.org/news/2013-10-literary-fiction-mind-reading-skills.html
  5. I like your phrase "I am going to start now." Don't let the past strangle the future!
  6. A local community college offered a class to help students understand their learning disabilities and also offered testing. I am in California and the testing done allowed my son to get accommodations at the state university. Also, the testing was free but not all the community colleges offered this service for free. However, they often have referrals who test for a reduced amount. When we visited potential colleges, we also made an appointment with the disabilities center to find out what services they offered. My son is about to finish his first year and he said that he is thriving because he uses all the accommodations such as getting a note taker, extra time for tests in a quiet room, and having his books scanned for an electronic audio reader so if he needs he can listen to the text. Also, he has found the counselors very helpful. Hope this helps and I believe your son will thrive also.
  7. I am not sure if this will help about getting evaluated. I enrolled my son in a community college where they have a learning specialist who did an evaluation for free. This evaluation was accepted at the public colleges in California. My son who has dyslexia is about to finish his first semester and the campus has a great disability access center and he finds that when he tells the professors his challenges they are very willing to help him. Congratulations!
  8. I think both posts are affirming what I have been thinking that I need to ask questions and not try to solve his dilemas. I like the idea of asking for permission to give in put.
  9. Thank you in advance for your wisdom. My oldest just started college and I realized I am still trying to be his "teacher." Any words or wisdom for making the transition from teacher/advisor to parent of college student would be greatly appreciated!
  10. My oldest son will enter college this fall and I am trying to get him into better health before he starts. The main issue is that he spikes fevers that last four days and is very tired. The fever episodes happen about 3 - 4 times a year and especially when he has been pushing himself. Also when he gets a regular cold his immune system seems to overreact with lots of congestion and this knocks him out. He eats well and stays hydrated. I have tried probiotics which seems to have helped to cut off some of the edge but if anyone has any other suggestions I would be very grateful. Also, he did have a full blood work up with the doctor and nothing unusual was found. Again thank you in advance!
  11. I'd like to know if anyone has had a problem with a homemade student ID card. We belong to an ISP but the ID card looks "homemade." Thanks!
  12. Hi there, I didn't get your message, but you posted under my thread saying you had Apologia General Science for sale. I would love to get it, just let me know the price, thanks!
