  1. I have a son who is close to graduating both High School (homeschool) AND will be graduating CC with an Associates of Science degree.  (they have a dual credit program)  Son wants the graduation announcement to show BOTH graduations, but I cannot figure out a way to word it.  Especially since 1-- we never "named" our homeschool, and 2-- there will only be one graduation ceremony to attend (at the CC which only acknowledges his AS degree)....  I'm so stuck!

Anyone gone through this?  Help me please!  I'm really lost as to how to word things!

(I also posted this in the college board but hoping someone answers here too!)

  3. Slow flow and cramp bark

Available at most health food stores and amazon.

    BEST.  STUFF.  EVERRRRRR

Seriously.  I have had FLOOD periods since age 13.  Always miserable and been to many doctors about it.  I'm healthy except for that...  uugh.

But with slow flow and cramp bark I'm closer to "normal" people.  It's not gone, but lessened.  ALOT.

I did the capsule version of both.  I know cramp bark is availble in a tincture (hubby bought me that one on accident) but it tastes horrible, so I recommend the capsules.

Also did try one session of Vag steaming out of desperation, but can't really say it made any difference at all...  But that's a whole different subject.  LOL

  4. My oldest went back to Public HS last year (then a 9th grader) after being homeschooled for 2-8th.

Here's the things we dealt with OUR school-- YMMV.

    (DFW SCHOOL)

A few things-- our school doesn't have books.  Seriously.  I freaked out.  The teachers do their own thing, or they use tablets.  The kids go online and "google" to find answers.  I really wish I was exaggerating, but I am not...  Each teacher has their own "website" with lesson notes and assignments posted.  He read ONE "real" book the entire school year-- To kill a Mockingbird.  He did do some Shakespeare study, but that was all photocopied papers he studied.

No math book.  at all.  Teacher had her own lesson plan and she did more (busy work) worksheets than I could count.

Their history included muslim studies.  I had to have conversations with the teacher for clarification of what would be discussed.  Be prepared to do the same if you are concerned of any conflict with your religion...

backpacks are allowed in/out of schools but BANNED going from class to class.

He never needed a backpack.  He had a modern version of a trapper keeper.  It worked fine and was all he ever needed.

He struggled a little bit in math only because he was SO used to having material/book to reference and the change messed with his head.  Alot.  (Note, we should have prepped him for Algebra 1 better also)

He is a severely dyslexic kiddo and ended up the school year with a solid B average.  NO accommodations.

He passed his Texas state testing first try, no issues.  (we never once "prepped" at home for this)

His biggest issue -- which we both expected-- was the culture shock of high school.  He actually admitted that he had this idea in his head that high school would be like what he's seen on Nick and Disney shows and it wasn't even close.  LOL

He's had a bit of a problem dealing with high school "drama".  He's not a kid that does well with drama, and there's always someone having major issues that no 14 or 15 year old should be dealing with.  He struggles with that.  (for example-- his first girlfriend -- her parents went to jail for extortion and she was left alone taking care of her younger brothers and sisters.  CPS got involved and it was VERY difficult for everyone)

  5. I'm sooo excited!

Son #1--  is now starting the eagle process!  FINALLY!  He's been life for over 2 years now.  The only MB he has left is cooking.

Son #2-- is Star rank.  He needs to really work on some MB's though.

Son #3-- Is one requirement from Tenderfoot (fitness test part two) and he is done with 2nd class except scoutmaster conference/BOR.  He's also only 4 requirements away from 1st class.  Got 5 merit badges at summer camp too!  IF he can get the fitness test done by August 15th, he'll make the august BOR for Tenderfoot and 2nd class.  If not, it will have to wait until September BOR.

  6. Depends on the troop-- they all have different rules. Son's old troop didn't count ANYTHING if they didn't see it.  And if the kid waited too long to get it signed, they wouldn't count that either...  (bad, bad, bad troop for many reasons)

New troop-- and most troops in our area-- has some things they prefer to see but others the boys can do on their own and come in and discuss.  Especially if they do it with another scout so they can vouch for eachother.  **The one "rule" is the boys need to go to an ASM before they do anything on their own and get permission to do it.  If they don't it usually doesn't count.  The ASM's want to make sure they are doing it with the right instructions, the right safety, and if it's a requirement they can do on their own.

My third scout just did his 10 animals in our neighborhood with his camera.  Printed them off and took them to troop to get it signed off.  He had asked permission to do this weeks ago and got it signed off yesterday.  No problem.

The scout (not mom or dad) needs to tell the ASM that he would like to do the swimming requirements on his own and ask if they would llike to see a video of it, or if him discussing it will be sufficient.

Ok, this is a bonkers question. I could just ask one of our troop leaders, but I'd like to know now before I forget it again.

Does a scout leader need to watch everything my son does in order to check it off?

He could get his swimming requirement easily. He's got most of it done and just has a couple of things left. I could watch him do laps tonight after swimming lessons to finish them up.

Do I need to have an Official Scout Person there to check him off?

Does every thing he does need to be checked off by an OSP?

    Thanks!

    (still a newbie Scout mom)

  7. those are gorgeous!

I've been busy making stuff for B&G too-- youngest is finally crossing over to boy scouts-- I cannot tell you how excited I am that I wont be doing both CUB and BOY SCOUTS at the same time anymore!  WOOHOOOOOO!!!!!  Doin the happy dance!!!!

Our 3rd and final crossover.  YIPEEEEE!!!

hubby is still polyurethaning the plaque.  This is my middle son's from last year, but they look the same..

I made the framed super-achievers, got all but 2 done (out of 17 to make)

Now I'm finishing up these boards to  have for each boy.  We're going to put a portrait picof the boy in their webelo2 uniform (taken last week), then surround it with smaller pics of them as tiger-webelo...

(ok, hang on and i'll post a pic...  ) LOL

  8. It's VERY had to get 2 or 3 piggies to live together-- especially when 2 are bonded from birth and one is now introduced.

Sounds to me like they are biting him-- very common in piggie land.  He's the new guy.

I have a friend who spent 15 years breeding them (still does as a hobby) and she says the new piggie may be in danger.  Right now they're just probably putting him him in his place, but at some point they will turn on him and he could get very hurt.     It's very rare that they will just accept him instantly.

  9. Ok, 8th grader son got caught cheating AGAIN on math -- on his online math classes.  Logged in AS ME, got the answers, then logged himself in and put the answers in.  Denied it until I showed him screenshots of the login times/dates (which I was able to prove I was not even on the computer during those days/times).

This isn't about the math-- obviously he cheated because he doesn't know the material and didnt ask for help-- I am addressing that issue separately.

This is about the punishment and Christmas.

I'm kinda in a hard place and would love your thoughts/input-- even your creativity if you have ideas.

This is his second offense of getting caught cheating on math in 3 weeks.  We had warned him last time that it would be SEVERE if he EVER got caught cheating again.  Hubby said the punishment would be triple.  We made a huge deal out of it the first time...  so this was a big surprise....

He's already going to be grounded until New Years Day (no friends which is a huge deal to him)

He's losing his phone until then too.

Hubby is going to turn off his internet and take away his kindle as part of all that.

    No xbox either.

probably all those until new years.

Maybe extra report or something... I'd like to get creative.

Hubby has some chores he will be doing, maybe.

The PROBLEM is Christmas gifts.  He's getting some xbox games for Christmas.  The weather is supposed to be horrible, my inlaws will be here and we'll all be stuck in the house.  I feel bad that he would be grounded from his own christmas gifts for christmas with nothing else to do....  Especially when the inlaws bought him 2 games for xbox.  They wont get to see him play the games they bought him....

Maybe I'm being too soft for considering letting him play with xbox for Christmas?  I mean-- Cheating for a 2nd time is a HUGE deal to me and my husband.  I'd rather him fail and try his hardest than get an A+ and cheat.  He knows this and cheated anyway.  Never once asked for help.

    So thoughts?

He's my normally honest kid.  This is very hard for me to think of how to handle this.

    Creative input?

  10. first day today.

Our online history and grammar for the younger two that we were signed up for is a repeat of last year. (I was told it would be new, but it wasn't.  AHHHHHH!...)

So.... last minute changes.  Yipeeeee  (NOT!)  History switched to Story of the World (1) because I already owned it.  Grammar....  still not figured out yet.

Our literature plans--  I didn't figure out until saturday (my bad-- procrastination!!!!)  and it should arrive Wednesday.  Love amazon prime!

My 13 year old son was halfway through a TT program.  His computer mysteriously lost all his grades.... hmmmmmm.... (Suspect foul play but cannot prove it.  tech support agrees....)  Had to re-install program.  aargh....

And middle son got grounded because I caught him playing minecraft when he was supposed to be doing TT math.  REALLY????????

The wine is being poured as I type...

    LOL

  11. I have 5th and 6th grade boys.

Last year we did the grammar program through Virtual Homeschool and the boys loved it.  Signed up for this year, and when we started school today realized this year is IDENTICAL to last year.

As much as I'd like them to do it, I can't have them repeat the exact same thing.

I was thinking Rod & Staff (either 4 or 5) but it's SOOOOO dry!

MCT is expensive and I'm not sure what all I would need?  The guy who asnwered their phone said I needed MCT Voyage TM, one of the Voyage student books, TWO Practice voyage workbooks and a Practice Voyage TM...  $88+tax.  OUCH!  is that right???  Worth it????

We have done easy grammar in the past and there was NO retention from any of my kids.

The KISS website gives me a headache and I don't want to print.

Looked at ACE PACES (5) but the samples looked kinda bad...

I do have giggle grammar sitting in the cabinet....

Also-- do ya'll do grammar once a day or just once a week???

None of us are happy about any grammar program, so I'm just looking for something short, simple and to the point.  (and one that doesn't confuse me to teach!!!  LOL)

    HELP!!!   :D

Thank you!  I spent the last 2 hours searching this forum before my brain fried and I just made a thread to beg for help.   :D

  12. Was this twilight camp?

I wouldn't have bothered to explain it to her at all.  She should have handled it better.  She didn't know the situation, made a quick (incorrect) judgement and then slammed you for it.

I wouldn't worry about it.  As a frequent volunteer stuff in scouts, I've been told worse by rude people.  LOL

I just ignore and let it drop.
