  1. Oldest dd is in 12th grade, homeschooled every year except 2nd grade. Youngest dd is in 9th grade, homeschooled every year except K. We are very relaxed schoolers so some years should count more than others.:tongue_smilie:
  2. My oldest dd is currently taking Calc 2 at Community College and really likes math. (She has joined the CC Math Club) However, she does not intend to pursue it as a career or as a college major. :001_huh: We did not use a math curriculum for elementary. I used some text books as reference but we mostly played games, did verbal problems and used a lot of manipulatives. We did use multiplication flashcards and chanted the tables when she was in 3rd and 4th grade. In high school she did an online Algebra I and Geometry (Florida Virtual School), but she doesn't really recommend them. As a Junior she switched to Community College, and has taken College Algebra, Pre-Calc, Calc 1 and now Calc 2.
  3. I have only read the first half of Twilight but my dds (17 and 15, I need to edit my signature :001_smile:) have read all the books. There is a rough draft of book five, Midnight Sun, on Stephanie Meyer's website. Midnight Sun is a retelling of Twilight from Edwards' point of view. My girls loved it. I was not sure if you had read it or not. I know how sad it can be to get to the end of a series.
  4. Hi, I'm new here, I've been lurking, but this sounds like a good place to hop in. :001_smile: The best advice I found about 'understanding' math came from Ruth Beechick. Her booklet An Easy Start in Arithmetic (Grades K-3) has a great section titled "Modes of Thinking. It is only 4 pages long but was pivotal for me when I first started homeschooling. Her book You Can Teach Your Child Successfully (Grades 4-8) has fascinating sections on exploring numbers and principles of teaching. When you have this kind of instruction for the 'teacher' you are free use whichever 'textbooks' or 'programs' you like best. Denise We are 'relaxed'ish homeschoolers
