  1. Looking for a fun online game for my two kids to practice memorizing their multiplication and division math facts. We have done Reflex Math, Shepherd software, and Xtra Math. Looking for something new to try. Hopefully something fun and engaging. Thanks in advance for the suggestions🙂
  2. Thank you sooo much CAtoVA very helpful info. I'm not on here often, could someone post a link to the master class list? Where do I look on this site for this list?
  3. Thanks for the info:) Will look into them. Anyone else have experience with outsourcing writing. Really need advice in this subject!
  4. I need to outsource writing instruction for my kiddos. I really like ability in this subject, so I need an instructor who can take their work critique it, fix and explain grammar problems etc... My kids are great readers but because of lack of instruction really beginners at writing. Ages are 8-13. I've been looking at iew's boot camp and regular semesters. Anyone have experience using this online program? Anyone use any other online course with a live instructor? Experiences... I'm not sure where to look lol. TIA:)
  5. I'm currently using ss with my two older kiddos. We've been using it for two years now. Both are advanced readers but were terrible spellers. I had them do aas up to level 3. I believe ss recommends that they at least be at aas level 3 but don't quote me I might be recollecting incorrectly lol. I got them ss for the computer. They do it completely independent of me. I think it takes them less than ten minutes a day. I use a coiled lined notebook with the day numbers on each page. They listen for the word, attempt to spell it and correct the word right after if they spell it wrong. So far so good. I've seen a real improvement. I use dvds but I believe they offer an online option. I wonder if they offer a trial???
  6. Thanks for taking the time to respond and for the links. I'm looking for a line template ( like the three holed punched paper) where I can type the passage out and they can copy down below themselves. Any other suggestions.
  7. I'm looking for a free online lined paper template that I can type in for copywork etc... Any suggestions??? TIA
  8. readingeggs.com. It's an online phonics program. They offer a free trial. I've used it on four of my children successfully.
  9. I used it successfully with 2 of my kids. They had a good grasp on the concept but needed a little help memorizing the trickier facts.
  10. There's also xtramath. Math fact practice but really boring...my kids hated it and begged not to do it. Every kid is different though. It is free so you could always try it and see what your kids think.
  11. We used Reflex math for both kids. I also had them play on sumdog...free online...not sure if it systematically goes over the facts but the kids enjoy it.
  12. thanks hunter! i just ordered the dictionary...thanks for the tip :)
  13. sounds interesting hunter...got any links to some examples?
  14. sheppard software, reflex math, brainpop junior...sorry for the multiple posts
  15. I would start with level 1...I think the first couple of lessons should be pretty easy for her. I think there's a scope and sequence on their website. Don't bother with the earlier level...
  16. I would also suggest aar although it's a bit pricey.
  17. I would work on both. Undoing bad habits will be difficult IMO. I have a 4 year old and I tell her a story about how the pencil is a car. Mommy and Daddy drive in the front seat (thumb and pointer finger) and the kids ride in the back (the rest of the fingers). We also pretend her two fingers are an alligator and say the chant ....chomp, chomp, hold. I know kinda silly but it is fun for her and works.
  18. I do not know how old your child is. I have both but would not recommend either for a young child. I am currently teaching my 3rd child. I am using a combo of readingbear.org, readingeggs.com and various beginner readers (Bob books, all about reading readers, others). I have not used an official curriculum with her yet because I feel she is too young for formal sit down instruction. When she is ready, I think I will use aas & aar. ABCs I would say is a reference tool...lists spelling rules followed by a list of words. I bought it in the hopes of using it for making my own spelling curriculum but have not really found a use for it. I own a lot of phonics instructional programs...not one is a dream come true;p Boring but has be effective-Phonics Pathways (kids did not enjoy this one but it got my 1st born reading). OPGTR I feel is thorough but was boring for my kids (not quite as boring as phonics pathways). Fun but expensive-The kids and I enjoy the aas & aar programs. Easy to implement (we do not use the tiles, cards with either program). I do not like the price tag nor the fact that I have to go through so many levels. If it came all in one book I would be in love. I have only used levels 1&2 of both programs. I bought LOE Essentials...nice instruction but again boring for my kids. Hope you come up with something that will work for your family.:)
  19. mine do the same thing...now why didn't I think of covering up the puzzle part :blushing: Thanks for the tip!
