  1. My oldest asks for German- I'm not sure why or how he became interested in German. My youngest wants Spanish. Spanish seems the obvious one to teach, as I think it will be most useful to them. To anyone else who wants to chime in....which languages have worked best for you?
  2. I have two boys, grades K and 3. My 3rd grader is more than ready to do a foreign language. Of course, my K grader just wants to do whatever big bro is doing. So, here is my dilemna.... Is it better to use a curriculum or just collect my own materials? Has anyone had luck with Rosetta Stone with kids this young? This is something that I am so eager to start, but I don't know where to start. Family members tell me to try Rosetta Stone- which sounds great, but it's a HUGE investment- which is fine, so long as we have success with it. Advice? Suggestions?
  3. We are in Christiansburg- we moved here in February. We have met a few families...we have 2 boys (ages 9 & 5) and 1 girl (2 y.o.)
  4. I'm so glad I found this post. We are in the same boat. We have tried a few Math curriculums, my 3rd grader does well in math and shows a real interest in it. But, he's always complaining that he's bored with the lessons- so I've been scratching my head wondering which direction to go in. I want to make sure his interest in math only continues to grow....
  5. We did lapbooking with my 5 year old last year. His 9 year old brother was doing the Elemental Science Biology study, and so I had my 5 year old do the work with us, only he lapbooked his way through it. It really helped to keep his attention, he got all the same info that big brother did, but he was able to work on his own level. He still goes back to look through his lapbook- he was so proud at the end of the year! I think lapbooking is great for younger ones! I didn't find that they are really time consuming. Hope that helps!
  6. I understand where you are coming from! I have a 2 year old, K and 3rd grader. There are days when I certainly feel very overwhelmed and that nothing gets accomplished. We are slowly starting to work out the kinks in our daily routine. What is working is that I combine some lessons for the K & 3rd grader. Story of the world, art lessons, US History...just to name a few. The more I can do with them together really does help. Also, I have "focus" days. For example, on MWF's I will do more hands on with my 3rd grader. On T,Th's I will do more hands on with my K student. Every day, they have something to accomplish/ things they can work on independently while the other is getting my full attention. We have been doing this for 4 years now- and although I have only been homeschooling 2 children at the same time for one year, I can assure you it takes a little time to work out the kinks. It will get easier! Hang in there!
