  1. I broke my wrist and it was the most painful thing I've ever dealt with in my entire life. I was in the ER on Thurs and by Fri morning I couldn't deal with the pain. The ER doc said to wait 2 weeks to be seen. I called the orthopedist Fri morning and was in so much pain even with oxy, that they fit me in that day. I got a better splint and that really helped with the pain because it stabilized the break. I did end up needing surgery.

My advice is to get pain meds & keep on top of the pain, elevate as much as possible, keep it as still/stable as you can, and ice it.

  2. It depends on your school. I enrolled mine her sophomore year. The lady in admissions was so mean. Basically telling me that nothing she took would transfer since it wasn't from an accredited source. The secretary was pointing out all the things that her classes should transfer to. Her academic advisor put her into the 10th grade classes with the caveat that she would have to take the end of course tests for the core freshman classes as that's what the state requires. I did insist she retake her math because she didn't get the concepts. They had her take summer classes for that. Without taking their classes she aced the history and literature tests just by reviewing their study guide. She had straight A's at the public school.

  3. I ended up posting to twitter on Friday and got a phone call today. This is what I learned. Somehow I was entered as self-pay even though they had my insurance information. We did receive a refund from them in Jan 2019, which was because of my self-pay status. That was later reversed in June 2019 due to an "error". That is the $639 that I owed. The woman I spoke to today said that she doesn't know why nobody ever explained this to me (probably because it's super confusing). Going forward she is going to put me in as self-pay, cancel the claim with my insurance company (ER visit from Sept 2018), and determined that they actually owe me an additional $278. She is going to get everything all settled and will call back to let me know when they send out the check. It is still super confusing. I did tag a reporter from the AJC as this is one of the big non-profit hospitals in the area. I let her know what I found out today. Hopefully, this is the final resolution to this situation.

I wonder why they didn't recommend the oven? The instant pot might be more energy efficient, but more people have an oven.

Probably because the pressure cooker has a constant temperature for the entire time. Ovens cycle on & off.

I don't know about using the pressure cooker dry though. 😬

  5. The school district that serves the karate studio where my son works is doing only online school. So, the studio is doing a program where the kids come and do their online school at the facility. It's an expansion of their normal after school program. Over the summer, when everything was closed, they did live online classes where one instructor demonstrated and the other was watching the kids to correct their technique.

  6. This might be slightly incoherent as I am royally ticked off right now. Long story short, I had a fall while roller skating Sept 2018, went to ER for treatment, & ended up with surgery to have a plate put in my wrist. Issue is with the ER hospital. We set up a payment plan and made all of the payments (first payment $400+ at time of visit and last payment in Sept/Oct 2019). In the middle of the payments we moved but didn't change our address with the hospital as we were making the payments and everything was fine, on our end. Feb 2020 I get a call from the hospital billing that there is a balance due. We call and they claim we still owe $600+. We tell them to send a bill and if we owe it we will pay it but are confused as we made all of the payments. Give them our new address. We ended up giving them our address 3 times before they finally get it verbally correct. Now I get collection calls, while dealing with hospital billing department. I am dealing with one person in particular at hospital billing, G. He tells me that he will review the file and get back to me within a couple of days. He calls back that afternoon and says that they will accept what we have paid as payment in full but he has to have a supervisor approve it. That was in April. I still get the automated calls from the hospital billing telling me to call in. Every person I talk to can see that what G told me is in there and is still pending. Beginning of July, I get a collection call again. I call hospital billing and ask for a supervisor. She transfers me, gives me the name & phone #, and tells me they have 72 hours to respond. I leave a message on July 13th, July 21st, & again today July 30th. I got another call from collections today. I called them back & told them that I am still waiting for any documentation from the hospital that I requested starting in Feb and have asked for no less than 6 times. DH tells her that we will not be paying the collection company anything and she hangs up. I call G again. He now says it is out of what he can do and will email his supervisor, again has 48 hours to get back to us. He did give me the name of his direct supervisor which is not the person I have left the message with. Now he tells us that he cannot send me an itemized statement even though in the past he was supposed to send it. So what would y'all advise next?

  7. How could I have forgotten Dances With Wolves. So boring and there were several times I thought the movie was over but NO it just kept going. The worst part was when Blockbuster said I didn't return it and wanted to charge me $25 to replace it. 😬

  8. Napoleon Dynamite - We thought it was the stupidest movie and all of our friends raved about how funny it is. 🙄

The Piano - My mom selected it and fell asleep. I am scarred for life from seeing Harvey Keitel full frontal nudity. 🤢

  9. Last time one of my kids had it she wouldn't let me put the rx drops in her eyes more than once because it burned too much. I ended up putting lavender essential oil around the eye (on the eyebrow & cheek bone) and it cleared it up. I don't know why it works but it does.

I call my inlaws by their first names. I called my step-mother by her first name too. I'm not the type to call an inlaw, or a friend's parent by a familiar like "Mom" or "Dad". Just not my personal preference/comfort zone.

I have step-parents that I don't call mom or dad and I've known them way longer than my IL's. BUT I do have two of my friend's moms that I always called mom as I spent so much time at their houses.

  11. Currently my bras bother me in the underwire area but that is because I gained weight and the cups runneth over. 😂 One side bothers me more than the other. I do apply an anti-chafing cream that helps out for most of the day. They were ok when they actually fit properly. They are Soma brand but they don't make cups any bigger or I would just do that instead of making do with these old ones.

  12. One thing that we're doing is Girl's Camp. Usually my girls would be do that through church. This year would have been the last year for the oldest & first year for the youngest. We decided that we would do it on our own and then found out that the church group was going to provide bags with activities for the girls. I was planning on camping out in the yard, doing tye-die, making clover jelly, 15 yo wants to make bread to go with the jelly, a day hike somewhere if they can agree on location, a needlepoint project (we all get to learn together). The church bag has sidewalk chalk, smores, glow bracelets, and some religious stuff. 😜

Same. Seems during every project there is a point where my husband starts muttering, wide eyed, 'it's a miracle this place hasn't burnt down yet".

That's exactly what the electrician said on this house. 😜 We weren't planning on getting a new main electric line put in but then we had a "minor" issue (the guys taking the floor up hit the line. Thankfully only put a cut into the insulated part of the line so no injuries. Why was the electric line under the floor you may ask. No clue!).

  14. We just did this. We bought a 1970's ranch on a basement that had never been updated. It had been on the market for about 7 months before we put our offer in. We started the work Aug 2019 and had enough work done to move in at the end of Aug. We still had workers here doing interior work and didn't have a functional kitchen until the end of Sept. We had the windows replaced and just (a couple of weeks ago) had the siding & trim painted. Last thing needed is to paint & hang the new shutters but those just came in today. We scraped the popcorn ceilings, took off wallpaper, removed carpet, replaced all the hardware, restained the doors, painted, installed wood floors, gutted 3 bathrooms, gutted the kitchen, had to get a new electric line put in, removed a fireplace, all new lighting, divided up a huge room in the basement to add a bedroom, replaced the single-pane windows, replaced the rotting garage doors, and a bunch of other things. We're about to refi now. Just a couple of photos of before & after.
